Not sure if this is the right place, but I know that Gravatar is used for user avatars and that they can be automatically generated, but is this really coming from Gravatar: http://stackoverflow.com/users/1903772/john-edwards
I know the origin of the symbol is not a bad one, but the association most people get nowadays are not really a nice one
I am using this PHP script to generate identicons. It uses Don Park's original identicon algorithm.
The script works great and I have adapted it to my own application to generate identicons. The problem is that sometimes swastikas are generated. While swastikas have peaceful origins, people do t...
"some identicon looks like a swastika" comes up once in a while; I have yet to see one that I find really problematic. And given that I'm German, I'm naturally sensitive to this. But even if one does -- the top answer on one such (now deleted) discussion on the topic on meta starts with this:

Gravatar seems to have closed their support as well,
A big problem I have with the whole PC movement is that a lot of it is people assuming a subgroup who will be horribly offended by something actually exists, and not actually people being offended by things themselves. =)
I only react because I have a problem with people who have those kind of opinions. I have a neighbor who has one such background and it seems to still be something he voices from time to time.
Dinner time for me, I suspect Iwill be strangled if I stay herel any longer ;) Have a nice evening all of you
