I'm still quite confused on the best action to take with a duplicate answer. Does anyone know a good meta question covering this topic? My search-fu is letting me down.

Occasionally, someone will find that an answer they've written actually does answer multiple questions that are not duplicates, and these are ok to ignore - but have a good hard look at the questions themselves first: if they can be closed / merged, or if the answers are only tangentially-related, then close / flag as needed to achieve this.

Thanks, that sounds reasonable.

I find it a bit odd that I typically need to dismiss the flag as invalid to get rid of it.

Or is that wrong? If I investigate the situation and then vote to close one of the questions as a duplicate, I'm kinda done.
