How often does the new reputation system check for deleted posts?

I thought it was like a 5minute timeframe...

Another issue I just ran across: I deleted an answer which was +3 (and thus +30 reputation). When it got around to updating my reputation a short time later (reversing the +30), the tab in my profile still showed as blank. Oops, I didn't realize it was from a different one.

Wow. I did not expect such a massive response to the rep recalc, specifically in regards to question deletion.

I mean, I expected a bunch of "what happened to my reps?" questions.

People are just upset they lost rep.

I lost 0.0018% of my Stack Overflow rep and I want it back!

@animuson Right, but some of them have turned into higher level "deletionist vs inclusionist" debates.

I like Matthew Read's answers to those questions the most.

@awoodland That's a good point. Especially someone like JaredPar, who has so much rep he probably wouldn't have noticed even a 1k drop.

Matthew Read's point on that question is really good, by the way. I like that argument alot.

There's a clash here between different possible purposes for rep. Matthew Read's post addresses reputation as a measure of your contributions to the site by its current standards. This has to be weighed against reputation as a user-motivator or as a measure of contributions to the community historically.

the thing that I dislike about the recent changes is that the showing of downvotes on deleted questions makes downvoting bad things less desirable

Well, I'm closer to the fence about rep than deleted questions. I'm just slightly against it.

I agree that it feels a little wrong/unfair for people to have standing for no-longer-acceptable contributions, but demotivating people seems more likely to do actual harm.

This is a tavern, and it's Friday. They're just lucky I haven't started drinking yet.
