Hm. I came across the "Handling Calls to Remove a Moderator" post again recently and realized why I had such a hard time coming up with a response when it was new: it's looking at the wrong problem.
I think the real problem -- insofar as there is any problem -- lies with mods who aren't doing anything blatantly abusive, but just have bad judgment and/or act abrasively when it's not called for.
But seriously, yeah, there has never (to my knowledge) been a case of absolute abuse/rogue behavior. So far the community has done a good job of not electing crazy people.
In other words, they're not very good at moderating, but they're not doing anything wrong. The question, and Shog's more recent official response, don't address that.

I am by far the biggest fan of your Nippon app. My question is.... how on earth did the top 3 guys get those scores? Did you redesign the game at some point? I am #4 on the leader board and I think I'm not that bad at your game, and for the life of me I have no idea how anyone could get those scores... was the game longer at some point?
