Wouldn't it have been enough to delete the fun answer and the comment noise? Strange.

nate cRead quickly friends as this post will be deleted soon! Supposedly SO is built on ideas of democratic freedom of speech? I imagine that the Chinese would be very happy if they only had to give people reps and badges to keep them happy.

@TimStone I can confirm that
Oh, and Shog9 is now Stalin. \o/

Indeed. :D

Can I be Mao? Pleeeease? Pretty please?

Have you finished all of your homework?

samsaffron.com/posts/57 ... (don't post it anywhere still a draft)

Nifty :)

Good Morning

Aye, it should be in a few hours ;)

hello

Oh :)
Hi Mark

how's it going?

Cloudy outside may be rain will come
How you doing?

5:36 AM
not too bad

5:51 AM
my mac terminal is not taking any command
I am getting "command not found"
sudo port install wine
I did it yesterday
Wine was working fine but now showing error
anyone has idea about it?
sudo: port: command not found
Yesterday I played with bash profile may be that is the issue

15 hours ago, by Hogan
@ManjotSingh if only there was a web site you could post a question like that to and get an answer.

But that thing I did yesterday but facing problem
Yesterday it works fine Reno

Q: -bash: ls: command not found at Terminal on MAC OS

art.maniaI need to start using GIT for my projects from now on and I need to use some UNIX commands. but no matter what I do, I always receive "command not found" error. I installed MacPorts, but still cant run any UNIX command :/ When I try ls, I get the error below, same for sudo, or any other command...

I found this and did same thing still no success
-bash: winetricks: command not found

6:09 AM
@ManjotSingh winetricks is a script you need to download, eh

I downloaded

./winetricks?

Yesterday It works fine
sudo port install wine
sudo port install winetricks
like that it was working
Save the file and set its execute permission:

chmod +x 9530.sh
Now, run winetricks and select gdiplus trick. Type in Terminal:

winetricks
I had performed these steps yesterday
but When I start now it shows an error
-bash: winetricks: command not found
I searched and got a solution but still not running

Seriously, I wish you would stop treating this room as your personal support hotline.

Can I get access in Ask Ubuntu room

 Ask Ubuntu General Room

Normally: General discussion around Ask Ubuntu, Ubuntu & offic...
I think there people can help me
But as I am suspended I am not able to chat at Stackexchange chat rooms
Here I think "Tavern on the Meta" is not a technical room
I am trying to improve and if you will see my record after suspension I obeyed all rules and gave respect to all users
keep my suspension on StackOverflow for month but let me allow to chat on Stackexchange rooms its my request

7:22 AM
morning

Very Good Moring :)

@ManjotSingh no people in there won't be able to help you with Mac stuff
there is Apple where you can ask such questions

(process:3433): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display "/tmp/launch-DSXWYy/org.x:0".
Octavian I got a success in running
all above issues solved I reinstall Macport

@ManjotSingh If you do want access I suggest you post on Meta.StackOverflow requesting access, but as you were banned from some rooms perviously I don't know how they will react.

Winetricks work fine

7:25 AM
@ManjotSingh So you're asking me to allow you chat access so you can once again try to extract the fast help from the chat people, instead of doing the work of phrasing an actual question on a Q&A site? Doesn't sound like trying to improve in my book.
4

Balpha I am answering also on Stackoverflow
But suspension because of my past behaviour
I am obeying all rules and respecting all users

'Morning' all

Did I disrespect any user?
Morning Benjol

@ManjotSingh, it's not a question of disrespect of any user, but 'disrespect' of all users, in that you're abusing our patience by repeatedly doing things which you've been politely asked not to. (That's my interpretation, on a brief reread of the thread)

@ManjotSingh if someone is in prison there is something called good conduct. So far I wasn't able to see any improvement in your behavior other than not to argue with others which is just not enough in my opinion.

7:29 AM
@OctavianDamiean In addition to curcumvent the chat ban you've created your own room(s).

Unrelated: can anyone help me with the current etiquette as concerns closing grandfathered off-topic questions in SO? I wondered what provoked the recent closure of this one, and whether it wouldn't have been better migrated to programmers:
698
Q: Senior programming 'guru' who can't program - should I find a different career?

confessBackground: According to my resume I'm supposed to be pretty good at programming. I've worked on a ton of big projects at big companies over many years. When I go for an interview and someone looks at my resume they immediately assume I really know what I'm talking about. I generally communicate ...

So tell me what all others things which I need to do to improve
I am ready to do whatever you all say

the very first thing you have to do is to stop abusing this chat as your personal support media

ok
I wont repeat it again
anything else

you are not suspended on Apple nor Ask Ubuntu

7:31 AM
yet :)

that means that you can ask all those questions there

Then how/when would I get access in chat rooms of Apple and Ask Ubuntu ?

@Benjol ouch.

@ManjotSingh, why do you want chat access?

@ManjotSingh that is exactly what I'm talking about. Try to solve a problem without bugging others on chat

7:33 AM
Because there might be small issue which I may be missed can be solved by chat Benjol

@Benjol He's trying to write blackberry apps in a ubuntu VM on mac OSX, from what I gather. Plus it's easier to post in chat rather than get downvoted on the site.

I am not bugging others by directly ping them you can check my records after suspension those who are interested will answer
I am trying to improve,I am not bugging anyone

@ManjotSingh, you may not feel that you are bugging others, but it appears that others are feeling bugged...

by constantly spamming a room with all kind of unrelated questions you bug everyone

Here might be others are feeling bugged because this is not technical room
but Apple and Ask Ubuntu are technical chat rooms there might people will not feel bugged by my messages
I dont want to spam this room

7:38 AM
@ManjotSingh hey please donot argue dude, I already said you, choose one best forum to ask your questions, here we can just give you ideas for once or twice, but you are asking very often. That is not the way .

@ManjotSingh, well, what do you want us to say? You can try, but if you're not sensitive to how others react, the end result will probably be the same...

7:53 AM
@OctavianDamiean: I have a Question in Service

uhm thats fine and stuff but don't you think it would be more appropriate in the Android chat room?

@Benjol As you will say I am ready to do and I care about others also thats why I dont ping particular person
@Damodar Do you think Did I disrespect anyone in this room?

not a particular person but everyone
we've already told you why

whom did I ping directly?

And repeatedly asking the same thing is also a form of aggression

7:56 AM
Ok

it is not about pinging

Pinging no-one in particular is pinging everyone

it is about how you've (ab)used the room

Is it so?

On a totally unrelated topic....WTF is my blog password?
takes another sip of scotch

7:57 AM

@GeorgeMarian, in order of probability, I think password comes first :)

@GeorgeMarian hunter2?

Manjot Singh

What type of scotch?

7:58 AM
I think I may have made it "too" secure.

@GeorgeMarian qwerty?

password123?

the classic :D

@Benjol Glenlivet, 12 year old.

George may be

I'd love to have a glass :)

The gf got me this nice gift set for my birthday. I finally had a chance to use the decanter, as we have a guest crashing on out couch tonight. heh

@GeorgeMarian, great guest, if it's more fun for you being on here :)

Dang it. I just ashed on myself. LOL
@Benjol LOL
Well, I couldn't sleep. Good enough reason to fire up a cigar and chill out with some libations.

@GeorgeMarian Looks nice. only 10am here, so not exactly in a drinking mood.
Anyway, good luck with your password :) Gotta go now.

8:02 AM
@Mvy LOL. I missed that one. Nah, it's something that I should remember, but different enough from my other passwords that it's causing me trouble.
@Benjol hehe Thanks, See yah later.

try your favorite cigars brand :D

@GeorgeMarian Hi , how do u do Seeing you after a long time

Dang it. I thought I had it. I guess I could just try the password recovery option, but I'm determined to remember it.

8:04 AM
@SankarGanesh Yeah, I've been sleeping on a normal schedule lately. :)

Octavian, did you gone through that pastebin url which i gave in Android

Hmm...does WP have a limit on login attempts?

I'm not sure but I wouldn't try it out :p

lol
Well, it's not like I can't get just fix a lockout through the backend. Well, maybe not tonight. I wouldn't dare touch the DB now. :D

oh so you have access to the DB, well then go ahead and try :D

8:08 AM
Yeah, I'm on a mission to remember it now. Worst case, I can just wait until any lockout expires or just fix it in the morning. :)
Assuming I can remember my hosting password... ;)
Huzzah! Success!
Ironically, I had tried that password once. Apparently, I must have fat-fingered it.

Great :)

heh

A: Add data.SE style "magic links" to comments

Octavian DamieanA chat room link could be useful I think. [chat:ROOM_ID] This wouldn't be that useful, more like a fun thing, linking to yourself. [self]

a bit of shameless advertising :p
admit that you'd use [self] all day! :D

lol
So, are any of you guys PHP devs?

8:28 AM
looks up and whistles

Jin
thx to @RebeccaChernoff

oh, nice!

@Jin pfft, it looked awful before you gave it some Jin lovin' (:

@OctavianDamiean LOL. I fought with the filter functions today. WTF is up w/ sanitizing ints merely removing decimal points?
@Jin Ooooh, shiny!

change in the room name?

8:31 AM
Oh hey! How 'bout that?

@GeorgeMarian nice

Not as nice as the 18 year old, but that will have to wait for a big pay day.
@Sathya Are you a fan of The Glenlivet?

@GeorgeMarian I'm not a big scotch fan, but my friend, however is. Gifted him an 18-yr old Handcrafted Glenfiddich

@Sathya Nice. I haven't tried Glenfiddich yet, but it's on my list.

@GeorgeMarian do try, might give up Glenlivet for it :P
(or so I've been told)

8:39 AM
lol
Currently, I'm limited by my budget. That's why I've been sticking to what I know I like. Hopefully, I'll drum up some more freelance work and have the funds to do some exploring.

should not be thinking about scotch at 2 in the afternoon
@GeorgeMarian :) Cheers to that!

Fair enough. LOL
I so had a good coding day today. I fought with PHP's filter functions, but got something I'm happing with working.
Then, I cranked through a very cool dynamic query creation bit for a search form that uses prepared statements. It's been a while since I've actually managed some serious flow.
It definitely felt good.

sounds good.

looks around carefully and whispers "Drop PHP, go with Python"

dang, missed the edit window...* whistles and looks away*
@OctavianDamiean Yeah, I've started learning Python. I do think I'd prefer working with it over PHP.

8:46 AM
I'd prefer not working :P

So did I and I love it!

@Mvy Well, yeah. Who wouldn't? Actually, I'd prefer not having to worry about money. I don't think I could ever stop working. Or, at least, doing something.

Neither do I. Was just joking :P

quietly goes back to documentation work

Ah, nuts! Someone go get me some water. ;)
@Sathya Whacha documenting?
@Mvy Hehe. That's a common theme among the computer geeks, isn't it? We're always busy doing something.

8:51 AM
@GeorgeMarian indeed

@GeorgeMarian some database packages that we built for our application.

Sounds like fun. Not! I'm all about good documentation, but documenting DBs always ends up being monotonous. (Sorry if I'm making it worse for you by pointing that out.)

Thinking of something else @balpha, was the support of magic links declined for standards posts? (Or too complicated to get them working?)
@GeorgeMarian DB documentation?
@GeorgeMarian you mean conceptual models?

@GeorgeMarian no worries. 'tis the truth

databases cringes

8:58 AM
@Mvy I mean that there are a whole lot of little things to document and whatnot. It tends to get repetitive with any non-trivial database. Conceptual models are cool, but the nity-grity of the documentation is painful.
Interesting. This cigar is not as feisty as its brothers. I wonder if it's because it's been sitting out of its cellophane waiting for me to pour some scotch for so long.
Where's @Shog9? He's missing out on my cigar banter.

man I can throw away my Cohibas ...

Oh?
As in real Cohibas or Red-Dots?

had no humidor and now they are ... well, not that good anymore :D
@GeorgeMarian real ones from Cuba.

Awwwww.........
Say it ain't so!

yes shame on me :(

9:05 AM
That's what finally got me into cigars. A friend of mine had suggested I give up cigarettes for cigars over 10 years ago. However, I had only experience crappy cigars at that time.
Then, a coworker of mine was kind enough to let me smoke a real Cohiba he had stored for 15 months.
Man, was that tasty!

well I'm not even smoking, they are for certain special events

@OctavianDamiean That said, i would probably still smoke them. :)
Just because, if nothing else.

you're in the US isn't it?

Kinda like burying a shipmate at sea. ;)
@OctavianDamiean Yup.
I don't buy into the hype of the Cuban cigar. However, Cohiba's are the creme de la creme of cigars.
Assuming that they haven't been abused, of course.

well I even have some Cuban cigars from tobacco farmers

9:09 AM
Nice.

9:28 AM
quite Hot outside

Thankfully, it finally cooled down around here.

Thank GOD I have AC in my room

alternative current? Welcome to the future. :D

lol air-conditioner I hope you too have?

Thank goodness I have been able to get away without having a A/C.

9:35 AM
nope, we're in the alps after all :)

So, you have blower?
VMRuntime.getRuntime().setMinimumHeapSize(BIGGER_SIZE)
O sorry that is not for here

nope I have the fresh mountain air ;)

great.I am welcome there?
May I'll go Sweden(Stockholm) :)

well sure

How far is your place from Stockholm?

9:39 AM
Sweden is somewhere else but I'm sure they have fresh air as well :D

I heard Sweden is coolest place.

it is quite far away

there are Ice bars in Stockholm
An Ice bar, sometimes associated with an ice hotel is a drinking establishment primarily made of ice. The bars usually contain ice sculptures and other formations and are kept at low temperatures to hinder melting. Mostly a novelty, the ice bar is often considered a tourist destination. The Icebar in Orlando is the first and largest permanent ice bar in America. The ice sculptures are created by a Master Carver who has won awards in the international Ice Carving Olympics and also in Harbin, China at the worlds largest ice festival. Made from over 50 tons of ice, the interior features a cr...

2:00 PM
@GeorgeMarian Ah yeah, sorry about that, I had meant to go into that more yesterday but I got pulled into a work call after I finished setting up the Chromebook. Presumably you were able to figure things out, though?

1 hour later…

we're about to hit 1,000,000 user accounts on the Stack Exchange network http://imgur.com/oJiZT (source: stackexchange.com/sites)

Posted by Joel Spolsky on June 9th, 2011

Like most sites, it’s hard to figure out the number of users on Stack Exchange. The widest possible number is the number of unique visitors, most of whom just read our content and move on. That number is now around 19,000,000 according to Google Analytics or 14,000,000 according to Quantcast – the difference comes from the fact that Quantcast has some “de-dupe” technology to try to estimate the number of human beings while Google Analytics just counts unique cookies.

Another number we track internally is “number of human beings who type on one of the Stack Exchange …

4:08 PM
The hell?
"Oh yeah, we'll just...you know, arbitrarily close stuff without actually providing any answers."
Oh, apparently the answer is "we suck" sighs

I'm here only for a second
Good, @balpha, you're here (are you?)

yep

Do you know a "Brian Beaudet" ?
He seems to be impersonating Joel, I am about to email Joel but wanted to make sure I am not missing something
Claims he's CEO of StackExchange
am I missing something or should I send this email to Joel? :-)

Am I missing something @RebeccaChernoff or should I inform Joel about this?

4:21 PM
I don't know anything about it. I could, you know, ask Joel...

@balpha You could even make @RebeccaChernoff ask Joel for you!

Well I just emailed his joelonsoftware address, but in case he gets a crapton of email on that address (he probably does) you'll probably have a better chance of getting his attention ;-)

You're going about this all wrong; make an employer account on Careers and contact the guy to discuss his impressive credentials

He's the organizer of a local meetup
That's how I found him
My business partner was like, "Hey, let's go to a meetup with the CEO of StackExchange!!!"

You should go demand free Stack Exchange goodies from him.

4:23 PM
...
OMG I HAVE GONE ABOUT THIS ALL WRONG
YOU ARE CORRECT TIM

\o/

ok thanks @balpha and @RebeccaChernoff
I must now go and return to my crazy life. I miss this place, I hope you are all well!

See, ` ^---` you don't event want to leave! ;)

I intend to return for real once personal stuff is resolved and behind me. Take care everyone@

@TheOyNotFoundException Is he actually promoting that link anywhere? Could be not more than a Lorem Ipsum...

4:25 PM
@balpha Yes, on LinkedIn and meetup.com

interesting, okay

like I said, my partner believed he was the CEO, so as far as I'm concerned that's a cause for concern :-)
OK. Crazy work day today, so I must go even though as @TimStone pointed out, I really don't want to!

At least you know now that he hasn't been poking around Stack Exchange in enough depth enough to know what you've really been up to ;)
Happy working, we'll see you later!

@TimStone HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
@balpha and @RebeccaChernoff you two know how to reach me via email if you need more info. Or ask @TimStone or Cole to get ahold of me
later everyone...

seeya

4:29 PM
his linkedin profile seems to list real stuff at least
or rather, he isn't Joel on LinkedIn, dunno who he's masquerading as q:

Hi hi
Daaamn... @balpha is a bad ass. Props, sir. :)

?

Just roll with it

@balpha Your starred posts about ManjotSingh
The one day I came in here, there was an hours worth of conversation between him and 2 others that was totally incomprehensible.
Only 180 rep to go... I can't wait!

4:52 PM
@balpha is he registered at least with an even remotely valid looking email? :P

yep

5:04 PM
@TimStone did you get a chance to poke around your new ChromeBook :) ?

Not too much yet unfortunately. :(

I've got a Dell Inspiron 2305 Touch on my doorstep, delivered about 20 minutes ago by Fedex... I don't leave work for another 3 hours... nervous

So who wants to go for a drive by Fosco's house?

I think I have to actually leave here and go get it, to be safe... that sucks.

6:06 PM
I don't think Won't AKA Will quite understands MSO culture:

A: Anyone want StackEverything.com?

Won'tI'll create a website where people place things ontop of other things and take pictures of them.

6:19 PM
Whew... the package is safe.

@TimStone Ha. Yeah, no worries. I futzed with it a bit, came up with a reasonable 2-step approach and threw in a callback function or two, to boot.

Ah, good stuff :)

6:40 PM
That biggest issue was that some of the functionality wasn't as expected and some of the documentation is lacking. I couldn't find much of anything about the callback function on php.net.

Yeah, the way you were describing it, it sounded weird. I'm not sure that I've ever used that function before, heh.

> @PopularDemand: Pfft. Everyone knows that pancakes make much superior hats than waffles. Why, the nerve. – Won't♦ 11 mins ago

@TimStone It's new in 5.2. I started writing my own input validation and sanitation functions, but discovered -- after some frustration -- that superglobals can't be used in variable variables. LOL
I then discovered the input filter functions and I'm glad I did. They're pretty decent, once you figure out how to use them.
Though, I still think that approach of stripping decimal points out of numbers and globbing all the digits into a new number is effing stupid.

Ah, alright. And no, hahah. Variable variables are evil anyway! ;)
Yeah, that's just odd.

6:56 PM
LOL Yeah, I avoid variable variables as well. But, some places they can be useful. Basically, tucked away in a library somewhere and tested thoroughly.
