Science has proven common sense was right ... again. shine.yahoo.com/channel/health/…

Wait, where's the bit where science proves diet cola tastes like sick?

idk .. but I don't personally care for aspartame
this is my poison of choice:

I switched to water, almost always. I still have a soda or iced tea if I eat out somewhere, but at home I don't stock any soda or sugared drinks.

I'm breaking the habit, drinking more water
but it's hard to change an ingrained 20+ year habit

> A 2008 study found that women who drank water sweetened with sugar and water sweetened with Splenda couldn't taste a difference
Who would agree to participate in that study?
I mean sure, you can sweeten water, but it just seems unpleasant.

4:14 PM
@TimStone That's pretty much the premise of every softdrink ever though.

The difference being that they have additional flavouring.

You haven't tried many soft drinks have you?
Sometimes they subtract flavoring ... >.>

@jcolebrand ?

Trying to remember the names, I've blocked them out ...
I remember green and yellow labels
Also, Mexican Candy ...
> But lately a ray of light has cut through all the gloom. Spam -- the Internet's original sin -- dropped for the first time ever at the end of 2010. In September, Cisco System's IronPort group was tracking 300 billion spam messages per day. By April, the volume had shrunk to 34 billion per day, a remarkable decline. "The largest spam-sending botnets are being shut down and a lot of the big pharmaceutical spam has disappeared," said Nilesh Bhandari, a product manager with Cisco.
@mootinator I like Fresca except for that aspartame taste

@jcolebrand ahh
Sierra Mist, Mr. Pibb.
Unsweetened iced tea.

4:26 PM
@mootinator what sort of fiend are you ?

Those are the three things which make me notice I'm not in Canada.
Oh, and unnaturally dyed Pringles. That one was amusing.
"Hey, these cheese Pringles are bright Orange. I guess Americans would have trouble telling they taste like cheese otherwise."
</troll>
Says the person from the country with regulatons as to what color of drink is allowed to have caffeine in it.

@mootinator Speaking of sugar water... Ice tea is a good example of a soft drink that shouldn't be sweet.

@Shog9 Few places serve unsweetened iced tea here. And if they do, they question your sanity.

I like my tea to be sweetened.

@mootinator Sounds like The South. Where having your sanity questioned can be a much-needed affirmation of your sanity.

4:34 PM
Me: "I'll have the mango iced tea." Chili's Server: "Are you sure? It's unsweetened." Me: "Er, aren't mangos kind of sweet?" Chili's Server: "Yeah, but it's not normal iced tea sweet."
All this talk about sugar makes me want a double down with poutine for lunch.

back again :-)

I managed to spend $70 on dinner last night because my wife wanted onion rings.

@mootinator $70 for me and mine is about average. $100 is not unheard of

We didn't get a main course.

That's ...

4:41 PM
I got oops image "internal server error" in stackoverflow chat room?
I got oops image "internal server error" in stackoverflow chat room?

I did not @Manjot

We went to the local restaurant, which was closed, because the owner had a high school graduation. So then went to the other local place, which apparently no longer serves food. So we got a dessert and a drink.
After doing that we remembered seeing a 50's diner a 5 minute drive from our town once, and assumed they could supply us with onion rings.
Turns out the 50's diner just looks like a 50's diner.
It's actually a higher end 'authentic Greek/Mediterranean' restaurant.
So, we never got our onion rings.

@mootinator $70 for onion rings!?

You could've bought a fryer, oil, and an onion for that, and cooked it up in less time... (not that you knew that in advance, but worth dwelling on)

@Sathya no, $70 for not getting onion rings but going to two different rest's

4:45 PM
or, not.

@Shog9 "worth pointing out to the wife"

@jcolebrand ah

=)
And of course the Greek 50's diner was packed with people celebrating graduations, as such excessively hot, and slow.
dwell dwell
Though apparently this place is the highest rated restaurant on urbanspoon for the city it's more than a 40 minute drive away from. Who knew.

Q: Python - Changing Shell Text Color (Windows)

CyanRookI'm looking for a way to change the color of the text output from my python scripts as it runs. The basic idea is something like this: if (Data < LowerLimit): print "Failed" # Output Failed as Red Text elif (Data > UpperLimit): print "Failed" # Red Color else: print "Passed" #...

Some users don't understand how this system works do they?
Even when they get up to 1k points

All you really need to know is that 1k points gives you nearly 1000 downvotes.

on answers!

Am I actually off topic here in other people's opinions?

A: Is there economic data to suggest whether or not trickle-down economics provides a net increase in standards of living?

mootinatorThe Fraser institute publishes an interesting report on Economic Freedom of The World. They rate countries on an index of freedom in five areas: Size of Government: Expenditures, Taxes, and Enterprises; Legal Structure and Security of Property Rights; Access to Sound Money; Freedom to Trade In...

can anything be OT on skeptics?

5:23 PM
@jcolebrand Oddly, yes.

sarcasm fail apparently ;)

@mootinator I dunno that I'd say off-topic, but I can't tell by reading your answer if it actually answers the question or just supports another answer.

I personally feel that that positively contributes to the discussion being held, yes
does it stand alone as an answer? Not really.
Is it too long for a comment, yes

Fair enough.

But is it too long to be two comments? :)

5:26 PM
would it be as well structured if it were two comments?

I don't think it deserves to be showered with reps, either I just thought it was a little harsh to counter the single upvote :)

I'd make it CW.

I also think that DJ has a stick up his bum

@AnnaLear Good enough for me.

@jcolebrand StickOverflow... fitting for some users.

@jcolebrand Sounds painful.

well it's causing me to headdesk

wonders if codegolf is still heavily polarized between people who just want to mess around and code golf Nazis.

@Fosco Hi. I usually hang on SE chat, but clicked chat from MSO today and figured I'd stick around a bit. :)

Addendum: I'm all for code golf Nazis if there are enough of them to sustain a community.

I don't see how the community could survive.. how many things can you code golf?..

@jcolebrand That's a shame, I think there was a good question buried in there, but I just could not understand what the OP was trying to communicate.

@PopularDemand I know.
I was trying to get him to open up and peel back the layers, but I'm not that good at communicating yet

I wanted to lay out several paragraphs of stuff, but I'm not that interested because he's going to shove it away and sulk

@PopularDemand Ha. Codegolf: ^)
On a related note I'm sad thepenismightier.com is squatted rather than owned by someone funny.
(Because I assume that would have been expertsexchange's idea of a good writer's site)

hehe... i swapped it around and use menispightier for random things like rock band (the game) names and my guitar tricks account...

6:06 PM
hehe :)

@mootinator awesome idea, surprised it isn't..
