@Benjol I had six years of french in school, and I'm sad to say it all went in one ear, and came out of the other! A shame really, as it's a beautiful language. But I've given up on it :) Although I still seem to instinctively understand french on some level, even though by brain doesn't know how to parse the words.
Lausanne has an Underground that goes up the mountain (I was there last summer)
Never seen anything like it

I learnt lots of my French watching the TV. Slower than in the Matrix, but not too painful :)

@Benjol Good point! TV is surely one of the best ways to learn it.
That's why all the smaller countries' populations in europe are relatively good at english
Their markets are too small for lip-synched movies to be profitable.
In Germany, France and Spain, everything is synched, so no learning effect

@Pekka, 'synched' very relative. You get used to it after a while, and they've got better with time, but for people who've never watched dubbed films, it does look funny to start with. There's a scene in Airplane which mocks dubbed films.

I love how traffic signs and such have to be in both high Spanish, and the regional dialect. I'd seriously like to see that in Germany, where people are mostly ashamed of their dialects

I did, but I had only scanned it at that point. I hadn't finished reading the introductory text.
That said, I did notice that it was an attribute of an XML tag. I blame it being early and not getting as much sleep as I had desired. :)
