At first I thought the chat was malfunctioning. Then I refreshed all the rooms I'm in and realized it's just a complete lack of conversation for the last four hours

Q: Is there a reason why we gain ghost reputation on the meta of SE website ?

Is there any reason behind the ghost reputation we gain on the meta of Stack Exchange site. This reputation doesn't add up to anything, but it still shows me I have gained some. Is this suppose to make any sense ?

Ghost reputation is mainly an indicator of activity, both for your usage and for the team (early beta stage only)

For you, it's a quick and easy track to see when your posts get upvoted or downvoted - so you know when people think your posts are clear or unclear

The team can also use it as a measure of participation that you perform on the Meta site, which is useful when they select the pro tem moderators

just a side effect of it being the same codebase

I like it. It at least makes my Mortarboard badge on Gaming Meta make sense

If I didn't at least in some way get reputation, then that badge wouldn't make sense, aye?

Has anyone else had problems since global login started where you end up logged in on the main site but not meta?

I go to meta and it says I need to login, so I hit login and it redirects me to the parent site where I show up as already logged in. Then I go back to meta and I'm magically logged in there

This is because there is no login for a child meta specifically. It is driven by the parent site.

If you're logged in on the parent site, you should be on the meta site also.

I had a similar thing last night but I figured I wasn't truly logged in on the parent site or something PEBKAC-ish.

Try logging out fully, and back in. Or clear cookies.

Chat had problems with ancient cookies, for example.

it's autoactivated for android and iStuff

@rchern Not all mobiles support Opera Mobile. Those that don't are stuck with Opera Mini, which only works with Turbo -- and so lacks the option to turn it off.

Ah. I guess I didn't realize there was a difference.

Just Mini on the iPhone.

Yeah, Opera Mobile executes JS clientside...

that automatically disqualifies it from running on (!!! JOKE WARNING !!! →) inferior devices like the iPhone, where such trickery just isn't possible. (:P)

(I had to get Opera Mini because whenever I try and view my work's outlook web access in Safari, Safari crashes)

Worked fine for over a year, and now crashes every single time I try.
