12:03 AM
@rchern Agreed, sorry :-D

(:

Does this look good? I'm leaning towards no

o:

I wanted the id and timestamp stacked, but I'm having trouble making it fit. I either need to increase the total size of the message, decrease the timestamp font, or decrease the line height (I did the last in that screenshot)

ohhhh, you're modifying. got it

12:11 AM
Yeah, it's not a bug, I'm just asking for opinions :)

whew (;
I think it looks ok with just a single message in the monologue, but not with more.

Solution: block people from sending more than one message in a row

perfect

I woke up, on the computer, and the first thing that happens is a great big mosquito comes around and bite me
Edit: A great big dead mosquito now

Q: What does ~~ do in Javascript?

Shane TomlinsonI was checking out an online game physics library today and came across the ~~ operator. I know a single ~ is a bitwise NOT, would that make ~~ a NOT of a NOT, which would give back the same value, wouldn't it? Thanks, Shane

The title on the homepage shows up as this for me:
Looks like -- instead of ~~

Whoever did the style stuff at the end of the userscript should be hurt. It uses spaces for indenting and tabs for alignment

@MichaelMrozek Hehe... well, like I said I never cared for the spaces/tabs thing.

@YiJiang I plan to blame @rchern anyway

no can do
the styles is all @YiJiang (:

1:00 AM
@rchern Actually, @TimStone added some in too, but yes, I was the first to write that section

ok well fine

Say, what are we working on now

still...I haven't touched that part

@MichaelMrozek I did a search-and-replace, just to make you happy :)

> @author rchern
I read that and think "now I know who to blame for everything after this point"

1:02 AM
|:

@MichaelMrozek Actually, if you want to, you can partially /blame @rchern :) She used 4 spaces for indenting, which my editor used when I do new lines, then I habitually used a tab for the new code block.

Fantastic

@rchern Wait till I drop back to Windows, and I'll build an animated gif that goes :| ._. |: .-.

hahaha
I just created an issue you might look at @YiJiang

@YiJiang I tried to do that exact thing, but I couldn't figure out an easy way in GIMP

1:11 AM
@rchern Weird... how did that happen?
I think I'll add in a min-width then

@rchern Okay, that definitely should not happen

wellll

@rchern Have this always been the case?

since your change to /list. is a slow bug reporter >_>
i kept forgetting to take screenshots hehe

1:21 AM
@rchern Ever since I added column-count!?
O_o How did you live with that?

heh

1:48 AM
Okay, I blame Chrome's implementation of column-count

|:

Sorry,stepped AFK to make dinner
@rchern if you have an XMPP account signed on right now and you don't consider it too much work, I am running the script now for The Tavern and you're welcome to try connecting. It may make my server explode but hey, you'd probably enjoy the fireworks (-;
@rcher If you want to try it you can try joining the XMPP/Jabber rooms the_tavern@msochat.smart-safe-secure.com or xmpp@msochat.smart-safe-secure.com
I'm headed AFK again. Catch you guys later!

2:07 AM
hy/bye (:
hmm, xmpp seems to work better than tavern

@rchern Okay, changes pushed
Just tested on Chrome. Seems to work
Hmmm...

1 hour later…

A question with two answers and one edit, yet only 1 view :)

view count is heavily cached

Yeah, but a little too heavy sometimes
@rchern Got the pull request?

will take a look

4:10 AM
Check out the new, redesigned 102content.com

@Chacha102 Not bad
You forgot the title of the page

...

Also, get a favicon :)

that requires having a logo of some sort
but I'll get both

Hmmm.... I see a scrollbar in Firefox

4:13 AM
yeah

100% width header with a 10px padding = 100% + 20px

still needs tweaking
but the idea of the site is to be a hub for interesting coding projects

Why not just leave out the width: 100%?

and eventually host actual content like editorials up
@YiJiang It is a left over from another design idea
which involved position:fixed
where display: block; doesn't work
there we go
fixed

Hmmm... not sure why you'd want header > h2 when h2 alone should suffice
Maybe some other information will be added to that header

4:15 AM
you mean header > h1?

<header>
        <h2>What is 102 Content?</h2>
</header>

It is a habit .. it is more for things like
hm.. sec
its either header > h1 or section > h2
but the habit is to prevent replacing section.articles h2 with h2 because I also might have a section.comments h2
But I agree
I really like the layout though..
on the top will be stuff like
Home - Projects - Tutorials - Editorials
Something along those lines
apart from just being a hub of projects, I'd like it to be a destination for learning about programming
But, it is going to take time to evolve it from a showcase of my projects, to a showcase of many projects, to a showcase and content center
Luckily, I'm not in a big rush to get it going

I see you're resorting to rchern-invariant smilies

@YiJiang Look: github.com/haampie/…
and everybody else of course

@Harmen um why is that useful? :)

@radp it's not useful, but I was just curious about the average reputation score of John Skeet, Nick Craver and Pekka

2:06 PM
according to the sidebar there are 4 people chatting

2:42 PM
that's somewhat random @Chacha102

Man, I can't believe how long it took for me to find this song

clicks on image

@radp Haha.... we're all trained by the YouTube onebox for this

/blame @YiJiang
No, I actually didn't click on it. I just remember reading the backlog about this issue :P

@radp Nah, blame balmarc about this. And the rate limiter, which delayed the second message by two seconds
Man, I hear that song everywhere, yet only now did I find where it came from

2:57 PM
thanks for the link, I had the same :)
liked.

@YiJiang, blah. you committed code with the timestamp commented out.

@rchern I didn't like that particular feature of yours, like I said

everybody else seems to. >_>
modifying it on your end is different from committing it

3:12 PM
@rchern shrug I maintain that that is an unwanted feature that doesn't really do the script any good

With just one person that feels like that I'm not removing a feature people wanted.

because per site chats were too complicated.

@YiJiang, if you feel strongly about it, create an issue. Get some feedback.

Gawd... another console not defined Firebug bug
@rchern Maybe a straw poll when there are more people in the Tavern? An issue on the issue tracker doesn't really help

Point people to the issue.
Then if you succeed, the commit can be associated with the issue.

Anyway, SO Live! Chat 1.1 is out, with real support for Chat.SE

@radp Sorry, what's this now?
oooooh, a userscript!

SO Live! integrated in the chat

> Bring Live reputation requirement updates to the StackExchangeâ„¢ DismissalProne AwesomeNotifierâ„¢

wait
requirement?

3:42 PM
Forgive me for being ignorant but what is SO Live! @radp ?

sorry, was pushing a fix that removed "requirement"

Q: SO Live! -- live updates to your reputation score.

When your reputation changes, this is quietly announced at the top of the page and the top reputation counter is joyfully updated. The notification ...

@radp Sweeeeeeeet!

@TheUnhandledException I'm waiting to be notified by your upvote :P

Geez @TheUnhandledException, you're so behind in the userscript area!

@radp I'm trying to log in now :-p
@rchern I really am...

3:45 PM
I wonder if I should make a new question for the chat edition.

where are yours again, I'll in stall those too @rchern

I think the site version looks better, but the chat version is more useful.

Okay +1 $radp
I like how Verisign uses my PayPal FOB for two-factor authentication for my openID

@TheUnhandledException screenshotting :D

3:48 PM
except when my keys are upstairs
that makes logging in to SE sites just plain work, lol

hehehe
ohhhh that reminds me. i need to clean up my LastPass vault

Grrr... I hate myself

@YiJiang please don't go emo on us

@rcher everytime I install your userscripts I get worried:

I was wondering why this userscript I'm testing is failing silently, when I had actually turned GM off for a second to look at @radp's userscript

@TheUnhandledException I know. All userscripts display that.

@TheUnhandledException That's technically speaking, true

How can I be so sure I trust you @rchern ? :-)
Yeah, I know @radp and @YiJiang. I'm razzing her, I do trust her (and @radp)

you can't.
you absolutely can't.
mwuahahaha

@TheUnhandledException That's the stupid thing about Chrome userscript - you can't

3:51 PM
well, technically I can load just about anything as you

There's no view source, it doesn't even show you the site's it operates on

I can click on stuff as you

@YiJiang All I use Chrome for is SE sites and chat. Worst he can do is steal some of my rep

I can vote as you
etc.

3:52 PM
@TheUnhandledException what do you use for teh rest of teh intarwebz?

@radp being me isn't as exciting as it sounds, lol

@YiJiang I was first scared of @rchern until I read comments by @radp :-)
@MarkC My socks would say hi, but, it's laundry day

@YiJiang what are you doing?

@rchern A funny little thing that actually tracks answers using ajax and localStorage

so @rchern, I was AFK last night, sorry... did the XMPP script work for you, but only in the XMPP room, not the_tavern@msochat.smart-safe-secure.com ?

4:03 PM
correct

were you able to join the_tavern it was just empty, or not?
I ask because I'll be bugfixing today. I'm now getting double messages via XMPP :-p
I mean, I love these chats, but I don't need to read every message twice ;-)

yeah, says 0 users and didn't give the initial /help message

@rchern hmmm, odd. I'll check it out and will probably ask for you to test again later :-)
And anyone else who's interested in helping me test XMPP is welcome to :-)
@rchern I also intend to make /help actually work today :-)

@TheUnhandledException Eh.... I've got Pidgin running. How does this whole XMPP thingy work again?

@TheUnhandledException special thanks ;)

4:10 PM
@radp Mmmmhmmm... don't you think that bar is a little intrusive?

@YiJiang It's the notification bar.
/blame @balpha.
I did make the chat window small on purpose of fitting everything in the same screenshot
it's not that obnoxious in practice.

I propose we rename this tavern the UserScript Tavern. All in agreement, say aye!

why does git repository link to gist?

@rchern because gist actually is powered by git.

yes i get that. but git repository to me says the actual repository base page (;

4:15 PM
@rchern eh, except there's none ;)
and I can't link straight to git://gist.github.com/631092.git

err why say there's a repo if there isn't? ):
lol

there is...

k, I'm off to watch some of the Rally to Restore Sanity. XMPP script has been restarted, it may behave better now. everyone feel free to hack away, I'll be back soon

(XMPP rooms: the_tavern@msochat.smart-safe-secure.com or xmpp@msochat.smart-safe-secure.com )

4:20 PM
@radp, I know, it just threw me for a loop at first.

@rchern oh lord, I'm glad you didn't forget about an exit condition

for a loop != a for loop >_>

@rchern What does that expression mean anyway?

@YiJiang rchern(">_>") = "<_<"

haha
I use both of those (;

4:26 PM
after all, rchern(rchern(x)) = x

I mean the "for a loop" part, not the erm... facial expression, although that might need some explaining also

"shift eyes left"
if not followed by "shift eyes right", mild annoyance
otherwise, looking around
and the such

@YiJiang caught me off guard, took me by surprise

it means anything and nothing :P

wow
it's life in here
hi

4:31 PM
hoy

@radp What took you so long :P
That's been there for ages already

@YiJ it was on top of my Explore list on Google Reader
OMG!

@radp Weird... I distinctly remember today not being the first of April :P

5:26 PM
Hey @Fosco
How goes?

Hey :) mail came today.. SO t-shirt, unicorn million dollar bill, and stickers. Thanks SOIS!

@Fosco Really? I am very jealous

yup. I might take a new avatar pic with the t-shirt.

doooo it :-)
@Fosco did you see my announcement re: XMPP?

A: Offer an XMPP method for chat

The Unhandled ExceptionUPDATE 2010-10-29: I now have very, very, very basic XMPP support working, written in Ruby as an XMPP component. The code can be checked out from http://trac.digitalfruition.com/soxmpp/browser/trunk and I am documenting the progress in the Trac wiki. At the moment there is no write support but I...

@TheUnhandledException I saw that it was working :)

5:37 PM
it's currently running as an XMPP MUC: the_tavern@sochat.smart-safe-secure.com

typo line 29: wili = wiki

@Fosco thank you :-)

@TheUnhandledException does it have anything to do with Jabber?

@Fosco Sorry, like 29 of what?
@radp Yes. It's a Jabber interface for this chat

of the rb file in the root folder, sorry

5:40 PM
Jabber == XMPP

I'm trying to connect via Empathy but there's no option labelled "XMPP"

was looking at that before going into the classes folder

@Fosco ah ha, the place I don't have a spell checker ;-)
@radp Use Jabber
Corrected in Rev 5, thanks @Fosco

Mmmhmm... I just connected using Pidgin

5 mins ago, by The Unhandled Exception
it's currently running as an XMPP MUC: the_tavern@sochat.smart-safe-secure.com
That is wrong
it's currently running as an XMPP MUC: the_tavern@msochat.smart-safe-secure.com
m sochat., not sochat.

5:43 PM
Oh wow... Pidgin is updating faster than the web interface
The problem I see here is that you're going to need a way to get the client to render HTML

For onebox support

@YiJiang I poll every 5 seconds, and I am working on HTML entity decoding now, actually
@YiJiang Onebox support will be severely lacking, sadly

@TheUnhandledException Yeah, I guessed as much
Anyway your server might parse out the URL only?

@YiJiang Sorry, what do you mean?

5:46 PM
@TheUnhandledException Right now oneboxes look like this:
<div class="onebox ob-message"><a class="roomname" href="/transcript/message/258323#258323"><span title="2010-10-30 17:37:39Z">5 mins ago</span></a>, by <span class="user-name">The Unhandled Exception</span> <br/><div class="quote">it&#39;s currently running as an XMPP MUC: the_tavern@sochat.smart-safe-secure.com</div></div>
You should just parse out the URL: /transcript/message/258323#258323

@YiJiang Ah, yes, I understand now

Preferably adding in the http://chat.meta.stackoverflow.com

Will add to Trac momentarilly

@TheUnhandledException np.. new gravatar created. w/ shirt & beard

5:50 PM
i don't have my shirt yet ):

@rchern I won't ever get that shirt :(
I should've just set up a bot to post something when it reaches 1 million

...because that would have been cool
|:

|:

Can I get some CSS feedback?

5:59 PM

@Chacha102 the app looks okay, uneventful maybe
:P

neat idea Chacha, looks good..

That's odd... on my Firefox the section.main ruleset seem to be completely ignored
Oh, right. Firefox doesn't recognise section as block level

ah, sec
there
just added a block declaration to header, nav, section, and article

6:06 PM
> The requested URL /jquery.js was not found on this server.
Oh, and in Firefox, the box-shadow extends out on either side of the top navigation, causing a scrollbar to appear
Normally I would set overflow: hidden on it's parents, but in this case that would be the body, which won't work very well
There's still overflow-x: hidden though

yeah
I'm trying to work more on the content for the site...
For instance, cleaning up the actual code for the two repositories up
So if I do start showing it to people, and someone wants to contribute, it look completely crappy..

6:25 PM
My computer just went down...
Every single application became unresponsive, and I couldn't even start terminal or switch to tty

6:57 PM
@Fosco - What country you in?
Hoping my t-shirt lands UK-side soon

7:34 PM
@AidenBell US, in PA (shipped from NY so I'm real close)

7:51 PM
I broke the bridge :-p

tsk tsk

I was too heavy I guess. Need to diet
@rchern I was trying to fix the duplicate (triplicate earlier this morning) message bug, Trac #11
I fixed it all right. Now there's no more duplicates!

\o/ haha

...because there's no messages at all... ;-)

yes yes
minor detail (;

8:02 PM
it's a feature, not a bug! XD

2 hours later…
9:46 PM
Anyone watch / attend the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear?
<retracted>

(:
i watched it

@rchern I thought Jon's "serious moment" was quite good
and man, there were a lot of people there!
By the end you couldn't see the end of the crowd!

hehe

10:33 PM
Well I did my laundry, watched some TV, and fixed 1.5 XMPP bugs. I think I deserve a night in the big city!
Have a nice evening @rchern
