6:00 PM
@TheUnhandledException Slightly challenged, it seems.

@rchern I'm about to mess with XMPP, if my net connection remains strong enough
@TimStone I'm not sure I follow?

@TheUnhandledException Mentally. There seems to be something very off with my reasoning skills today, heh. :P

@TimStone I know how that goes!

Unrelated, but I actually really liked The Social Network

I want to see that @Tim
I love pulling up Google maps as I'm traveling down the road :-D

6:09 PM
Assuming that it's safe to believe the general picture painted, it does bring an interesting perspective to things, heh.

I'm not driving @Tim :-D

Well, I meant the movie, but that's good to know too ;)

on the way to Myrtle beach, SC with friends

I imagine that SO chatting while driving isn't the best of ideas, hahah.

6:12 PM

@TimStone On the right subject this time, I saw the director interviewed on Charlie Rose, I think it was
He said there were at least three different accounts of the truth he drew from, and he took whichever perspectives made the story the most interesting :-)
So probably not 100% safe to believe the picture painted @Tim :-)

Yeah, Aaron Sorkin had said the same thing.
Sure, not the specific details, but overall the picture that's painted of the people involved seems actually fairly reasonable.
It's not just a big "Mark Zuckerberg is a total douchebag" flick, or anything. ;)

@TimStone Good. I was afraid it would be.
I have no idea if he is or not, mind you :-)
OK, XMPP here I come!

The movie makes a specific opinion about him through one of the characters, which I'm inclined to agree with to an extent, but I won't ruin it for you :P
Hooray!

Howare you @Chacha102?

6:17 PM
@rchern and @YiJiang have been busy all day turning the chat into some sort of self-aware, mouseless lifeform using jQuery, so development all around. ;)

@TheUnhandledException Good

hehehe

@TimStone AHAHAHAHA

I need to redo some of the base storage logic of Triton...
Key/Value storage is very annoying when you want to keep a index of all the data

now passing cotton fields on the right...
@Chacha102 Your note-taking app?

6:18 PM
So I have to have one key/value pair that is an index for all the others
yes
The original version you guys saw had one single Thread of Posts
A thread is stored in a signle key/value pair
but now going through multiples and keeping track of them.

cool
JS/HTML5 right?

stackflair.com/SEChatModifications.user.js << enter instead of shift+enter. no highlight/clear yet

Avoiding websites at the moment @rchern. bandwidth too low :-(
chat+google+xmpp is about all my poor 5-y/o phone can support, LOL

/highlight The Unhandled Exception

wasn't just for you (;

6:23 PM
Oh wait
WOW
Alright.
I'm just going to..yeah.

poor @TimStone

You just said hightlight wasn't included in that script.
And my reaction to test the script was to try highlight.

hehehe

/load
Hmm

|:

6:26 PM
No, it does work.
But at first nothing happened after I waited, so I tried to press enter again, but that time the message went through.

@TimStone OK now you're just making me jealous :-)

Hahah

@rchern I guessed that, just wanted to explain my lack of reaction to your new developments :-)

(;

I get to look at puuurdy cotton fields though! q=

6:29 PM
1 min ago, by The Unhandled Exception
@TimStone OK now you're just making me jealous :-)
Nice :)

@TimStone Sorry, connection died on me, didn't see that post.
I still don't, did it double post or not?

@TheUnhandledException No, no, sorry.
There's a /quote command that I needed a victim message to try out on.

OK. Because I hit "retry" like 5 times :-)

Ah, no, you're good, only one message. ;)

@TimStone Ah ha. So you decided to make me even more jealous, LOL

6:32 PM
Just testing the waters!
Ah, that's it.
Earlier when I typed /highlight I was actually testing to make sure that @rchern didn't have a bug in her "I didn't include that yet" statement.
I feel much better now.

ha!

Since I can't test the software right now, you use me as a guinea pig. I see how this works @Tim ;-)

@TheUnhandledException I'm just trying to include you in the fun, of course.

Ok cool. I'm just messing with you @Tim :-)

I'm such an easy target right now! :(
No, just kidding. :P
Well, about the frowny face, the first part still has yet to be proven untrue.

6:35 PM
Make it a ): -- then you'll be an easy target...
(-: @rchern

Hahah
Touché Firebug, touché.

@balpha still so far so good on chat over a mobile 3G connection. A few random timeouts but nothing major, probably issues on my end
@Tim did you see the "No respect!" message I tried to send?

I did not

One issue @balpha, I sent a message and chat said it timed out, gave me the retry / cancel message. I had typed another message which I was going to send and clicking "retry" apparently canceled the message in the text box waiting to send
@TimStone Figured, see above. I blame the net connection :-)

Ah ha
Alright, time to step out for a few minutes and get caffeine and such, heh. Back soon.

6:46 PM
Late @Tim!
Hey @MarkE, how goes?

Pretty good, and you?

Doing well thanks
except that we're stopped at a scary looking gas station in the middle of nowhere, haha

awesome
and they happen to have free wifi?

(I'm on the road, connected via 3G wireless)

so it's not that nowhere
since you have 3G
=)

6:52 PM
this is true

i was traveling myself last week...but still happened across yet another question from the guy implementing trees
sigh
unbelievable I tell you!

haha
whew, outta there

haha

Q: Java Tree Error Help.

user258875I am trying to implement an array based tree where each node has a list of child nodes and I am getting an error that I need help fixing. Error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: [Ljava.lang.Object; cannot be cast to [Lassign2Trees.ArrayTreeNode; at assign2Trees.ArrayT...

same title and everything!
@TheUnhandledException so where are you headed?

Looks like he wants someone to write it for him...
@MarkE Headed to Myrtle Beach, SC for a week off

oh sweet

6:59 PM
long overdue :-)

-1
A: Why does iterating over jQuery objects with .each() not give me jQuery objects?

darkporterProbably because, in your example there's no reason to even use each. Instead of: $(".foo").each( function(idx, obj) { $(obj).text("hi!"); ) Just use: $(".foo").text("hi!"); Everything is automatically plural when dealing with jQuery sets.

what score does this answer have for you?

@radp -1
+0 / -1

because I casted the downvote and later removed it
now I don't have the down arrow lit up
when I click on it, the display momentarily reads '-2', then switches to '0'

@radp -1

"You last voted on this answer 38 ming ago. Your vote is locked in unless this answer is edited"

7:02 PM
@radp If I edit does that clear it up I wonder?

@The maybe vote it up?

@TheUnhandledException Yes - it's any edit by anyone

no -- I already have changed my vote to "+0"
and I don't want it back to +1 or -1
I'll resort to flagging for mod attention

I edited it, not what you wanted @badp? Want me to upvote instead?

@TheUnhandledException Did the score change?

Oh well, I've alerted the mods/devs and pointed them here

@radp maybe someone else downvoted it?
just bad timing, or something

@MarkE No, because when I attempt to change my vote it switches to 0

hm

I upvoted and removed upvote

7:05 PM
i see

no change for me

okay, I tried the same dance

now it stuck at -1

now it's +1

7:06 PM
if it makes you feel better i can upvote it...

hence, somebody else downvoted it
I don't know what it should score
it doesn't answer my question really but it's useful to know given my generic example
probably +0

no, now it's -1
uh oh, net connection dying again

heh
@TheUnhandledException no support for Edge?
anyone want to help close this stackoverflow.com/questions/3950329/… ?

@Mark I can only help you cast it off the homepage :(

@radp get some rep!

7:09 PM
Closed.

;)

@MarkE I'm having trouble finding questions I can answer :(
Python is too good a language I guess :P

@radp eh, are you losing in a battle of speed or are the hard questions too hard?

the unanswered questions on python are mostly about weird combinations of frameworks, deploy issues and the like
so it's a battle of speed for the others that focus on the language itself

Q: Can some explain this strange behavior of the hypergeometric distribution in scipy?

Space_C0wb0yI am running Python 2.6.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.4 (this is not the native version, I installed it myself) with Scipy 0.8.0. If I do the following: >>> from scipy.stats import hypergeom >>> hypergeom.sf(5,10,2,5) I get an IndexError. Then I do: >>> hypergeom.sf(2,10,2,2) ...

Q: Python extensions for Win64 via GCC

kwatfordHas anyone had any luck with compiling 64-bit Python extension modules for Windows using mingw64? I have successfully compiled the extension in question with VS2008 for this platform. I've also compiled it with mingw32 (with a 32-bit python). I would prefer both builds to use GCC. I've install...

The ones at the top of my Unanswered one.

ah
well most of my rep comes from spotting something on the front page

7:13 PM
Yeah, it's awesome when you can do that.

though I answer things in several languages
not sure how far away I am from the silver badges, but i have a couple of bronze language badges

It does surprise me there are only 355 people with the bronze python badge of the entire SO population...
I'm the proud owner of one :D

only 311 with a bronze C badge...
and only 531 with Java
the language badges aren't all that common
there's almost as many copy editors no?

I've almost got bronze in .htaccess/mod_rewrite, which only have one other person right now ;)

Copy Editor ×81
The closest one is Investor ×394
Who will be the first proud owner of the Publicist gold badge??
the question selection for the booster badge is kinda sad however.

7:17 PM
@TimStone awesome

@radp That is sad. ._.

@TimStone How are you checking that, btw?
I'd love to run a general query that tells me how close i am on all tags that i've answered
I guess I could use the api or go through odata...

a query for what?

Though I think "points" is..weird. There's a MSO question about that which I believe explains in more detail.
@rchern Upvotes in a given tag

Hoorah!

@rchern thanks!
I'm so much further away from these than i thought =(

Oh, the only minor problem being that the badge doesn't count CW, which that query doesn't reflect.
But good enough for me for everything besides Java, heh.
Oh wow, this implies I'm much farther away than I thought.

yes, that does exclude cw
it checks the owner id
you don't own cw posts, so the id wouldn't match

What about posts that were made CW by number of answers and no one edited?
Actually, this is just weird all around.
It says I have 133 upvotes in "interview-questions"
All of which came from this answer

7:25 PM
odata isn't current

Ah, right.

so maybe you've had 7 upvotes since then?

OK, that explains that part.

and it's CW?
so that won't count...

when a post becomes cw, the community owns the post, not the author

7:26 PM
@rchern I believe you, but clearly those upvotes come from that answer, and I don't have a bronze "interview-questions" badge, heh.

argh, i'm formatting this, why don't people learn functions in C? stackoverflow.com/questions/3950376

@Chacha102 - hey flag this when you get a mo chat.stackoverflow.com/transcript/message/9345#9345

flag?

as spam, I think it requires a certain amount before removal
I think owners should have arbitrary remove rights

how is it spam?
meh, i don't really care. never mind. (;

7:31 PM
@rchern that may have been a bit trigger happy,

HELLO PEOPLE
WHAT ARE YOUR NAMES!!!!

also, why can't you flag it yourself

I did

if you think it should be

anyway, nm
@Chacha102 ignore that last ping

It was that virtual-punch I sent in your direction

Ah, it all makes sense now.

in The SO Tavern (General) on Stack Overflow Chat, 2 hours ago, by Tim Stone
@Amber @AidenBell might have. ;)

I had a feeling it might have had to do with that ;)
In that case, it was well-deserved.

hehe

Q: Should the power of SO be used for good -- or for awesome?

@MarkE LOL, no GPS, just our eyes and google maps when the cell phone works :-)
Good, we're back on a semi-highway
@TimStone UG, that happens to me sometimes. Now so much recently, more when I was younger. Sucks

7:52 PM
I think this is the first time it's ever happened to me, not really sure what's up with that. Ah well, all good now, heh.

@TimStone It's a damn weird thing. I blame @AidenBell as well
I'd send him a virtual kick but I only have the bars for a light tap...

Hahah, very good then.

/me taps @AidenBell on the shollllllllllllll [NO CARRIER]

aww, he'll never be able to fix his typo :(

have you read the FAQ? :)

which timeout?

I don't see the mod menu on rooms I own ... or is it a rep thing?

It's for, well, mods. Diamond mods :)
