@Chacha102 Well technically speaking, if the attacker has access to the server, then all bet's are off...

OK, I'm off for the night
Everyone take care!

Tim
G'night!

@TheUnhandledException I think I misunderstood you

@MichaelMrozek What did you understand me to mean? :-)
or should I not ask?

@MichaelMrozek At this rate I don't think I can wait to see the moment :(

12:06 AM
@TheUnhandledException It almost sounded like you said you were leaving before 1M. Which is obviously ridiculous
Leave your speakers on; there will be much @TheUnhandledException-ing

@MichaelMrozek OH, haha
I will do that @Michael :-)

I know, we're only <200 away. But I'm starving
I'll check back after eating

Let me check... about 150 in 2 hours

There is the source for the editor

12:09 AM
So it should reach it in about 4 hours.... definitely won't be here then... double :(
@Chacha102 Hmm... could you set up a simple test case, so that we could see how it works now?

Yeah I'll put it on my server
err I forgot... a few of my previous changes broke it .. give me a minute

oooooooohhhh close now

here we go
The only problem is that Ctrl+N is the hotkey for a new box..
However it is also the hotkey for a new window in chrome

@MichaelMrozek - Prods towards countdown room

So some basic formating
The thing tries to be smart about when it will consider the first line of your post a "Title"
Greater than 130 chars = sentence, not a title
If there are no newlines in your post at all, it also doesn't put in a title

12:20 AM
@Chacha102 Which browser does it work in? It doesn't seem to work very well in Firefox

It was designed in Chrome
I haven't even opened it in another browser
let me try..
Again, very very beta
FF 4.0 it works alright..

{
  "error": {
    "code": 4004,
    "message": "This IP has exceeded the request-per-day limit."
  }
}
ARRRRRRRRGGG!GGGGGGGG!!!
head explodes

w/o key is like 3,000

@AidenBell Quick! Go to stackapps and sign for a key
Or change your IP address

Tim
Hahah

12:25 AM
Stackapps it is
Where do I find the key @anyone?

thats horrible

@Chacha102 It's 300

they don't have it on the front page
But yeah, on Google Chrome my app runs beautifully..

Whoo hoo, thanks all!

12:30 AM
now, go test my app

lol

@MichaelMrozek If we put two feeds in that chatroom, can we get it to update faster than once every 5 min ;)

@YiJiang You might just get 2 updates every 5 min..

@YiJiang I actually did a while ago :)
in Countdown to 1000000, 1 hour ago, by Michael Mrozek
Experiment: two feeds at once
It's at 1 update every 3 minutes now, I figured that's probably sufficient

@MichaelMrozek Just put like 5 feeds in..
you have 10,000 calls after all
and it will be finished in an hour or two

12:42 AM
The number of calls stays constant anyway, the output just goes to multiple RSS files
It already updates every minute, it's just how fast I can convince @Feeds to poll for results

well, try putting in like 10 feeds
and make sure to add random stuff
like rss.xml?0981234812
to make sure they are unqiue

How many left till 1m?

248

Oooh. Nice.
Nicer.

12:45 AM
Hey, can someone help me think this idea out
So, if you type in
"http://102content.com/images/Muffin-cat.jpg"
because it is a URL with an image, it turns into an image
however, I'm trying to figure out how to make non-image urls links
My immediate thought is to make all URLS links, and then replace image URLs with image nodes
but I think there has to be a better way

@Chacha102 Load it into a invisible img, then watch for the load event I think

hmm?
note how this link is a link:
but this link is an image:
I'm trying to do that same type of parsing..

la la la la

what?

hm?

12:49 AM
why did you say la la la?

because i just sat down at the computer
and....i felt like it?

ah
I'm trying to solve a regex parsing problem

(;

Tim
What kind of regex parsing problem?

12:51 AM
so
Currently I have a block of text
This is the test note taking application

If you enter multiple lines, the first one is bolded

http://102content.com/images/mistakes.jpg http://102content.com/images/mistakes.jpg http://102content.com/images/mistakes.jpg
I need to parse the text for URLs
and turn the URLs into links

@Chacha102 I think the only sure-fire way is to check it by loading it, since the image could be hiding behind a query string

Tim
Hmm

999777

heh
i want to hit 1m just so people stop counting (;

lol

1:00 AM
@rchern Hey, I tried

yeah, i saw

spreading the love, enjoy it

Tim
1:38 AM
Ah, finally done.

A: What do the arrow icons in Subclipse mean?

nice work!

Tim
Thanks! :) I found out that the image upload likes to mess things up sometimes when you upload multiple consecutive images, heh.

@Tim You could just dump all of them into your Dropbox or something
But then if it gets too popular you'd have to upload it

Tim
@YiJiang If I had one. ;) But that might have been a better option, heh.
I could have dumped them on one of my servers for that matter, I suppose, but I figured this was "more permanent".
I was also surprised that @AidenBell didn't give us a question count update before I finished.

@Tim Just.... use that room. Don't make me kick you there ;)
I'm curious... what if I add the starred feed of this room back to this room

Tim
1:53 AM
@YiJiang Hahah, I'm quite content not having second-by-second updates on that issue. :)
Hello @Jin, @Fosco

Jin
@tim hello.

@Chacha102 Is Muffincat your cat??

what if the millionth question is a spam question just trying to be the millionth?.. (not that im considering it.. /shifty-eyed)

oh, i fully expect there to be more than a few of those
sadly

@Fosco it probably will be
Or the one asking what the password for chat.stackoverflow.com is XD

Tim
1:56 AM
I still have money on it being a "Parse HTML with regex question" (or asking for the password, since we'll never let that die).

oy

ZALGO

I think it must be a sign or something, but I've got an exam starting at the same time as the spreadsheet predicts the 1m question will be asked

Tim
@rchern Friday, the nightmare will finally be over. :P

lol

Jin
1:57 AM
what if the 1Mth question is an off topic question that gets migrated to Meta?

let's just put it this way

@Tim Funny, I think Friday the nightmare will just be starting ;-)

Tim
@YiJiang Is it a programming exam? You could be SO-famous and a cheater, with the right timing.

chance that the 1Mth question is a halfway decent question: 1%

@rchern You're optimistic I see

1:59 AM
@Tim Social Studies, unfortunately. It's called Civics in the States I think

Tim
@TheUnhandledException Well, that's possible. But it'll be starting over there, so it'll be OK.

q:

Computer Elective Program's exam is on next Tuesday

@Tim well hello sir, 999848

Tim
@AidenBell Ahh, welcome back.

2:00 AM
kicks @AidenBell to the 1 millionth question countdown room

Tim
@YiJiang Ah ha :P

Hey hey hey, no kicking @YiJiang or I will kick back ... with packets
@Tim whatcha been up2?

Tim
@AidenBell Cropping icons and writing a question answer...and that's about it, heh.

If anybody here knows anything about Globalization and City States you can give me some decent tips for my exam!

nice

Tim
2:02 AM
@YiJiang Anything more specific than that? :P

@Tim Nope. Social Studies is like that
Be Deliberately vague is a writing style I've yet to have mastered

@YiJiang Is it about the socio-economic impact of inner-city commercialisation and the negation of working-class domicile geography ?

@rchern Number of "Nice Questions": 18389.

I fully made that up just then

?

2:04 AM
@rchern 18 389 / 1 million = 0.018389. Probability of the one millionth question being "Nice" is 1.84%
@AidenBell Sounds like a hopeful essay question /only-half-joking

@YiJiang, oy.

@YiJiang - state in less than 2,000 words how the psychological contract between governments and unions can be leveraged to help promote capital flow from struggling industries to growth markets?
lol

Is there a count of how many edits you've made?

Tim
@TheUnhandledException Where?

I.E. progress to Copy Editor badge?
@Tim Edits you've made to others' posts

Tim
2:07 AM
Ah, gotcha. I think there's a query for it? But nothing on the site itself.

Thanks @Tim

Tim
Oh, it seems maybe I'm wrong about even that.

Q: What are the requirements for the Copy Editor badge?

hvgotcodesCopy Editor's badge description says "edited 600 entries." Does it mean any edit — i.e. does editing your own comments, questions and posts count — or does it only include things like formatting someone else's posts? Also, is there a way to track progress?

(see comments)

Tim
Heh, the linked query basically says I haven't edited anything (which isn't true).

Says I need to edit 600 more entries to earn COpy Editor, LOL
Same here
I already have Strunk & White :-)

2:11 AM
Ewww Strunk&White

Tim
I haven't even gotten that far, hahah.

@rchern Let's see how many of your "oy"s can we get up to the star list

It doesn't seem like using Post.LastEditorUserId is going to be sufficient to find all edits

I love editing. Don't ask me why
@YiJiang Better not ask

@YiJiang, let's not...

2:12 AM
I am disappointed about my lack of gold badges

@TheUnhandledException I do too; I particularly love rewriting massively unclear questions

at 14k I should at least have 1

@MichaelMrozek Likewsie. But I even enjoy changing "how i can" to "How can I"

I need orange juice. Orange juice always calms my nerves before major exams. That or listening to this: bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/fricomedy

1 more hour
@Jin, that answer would be much better with an actual date i can glance at

Ach! I'm running out of orange juice!

Well I'm headed off for the night. Catch you all later!

Bye @TheUnhandledException

@Jin He would've been spot on if he'd left off the "29 days" part

Tim
2:15 AM
Bye

it's all off now. spolsky just tweeted it

What!

well, tweeted asking when it would hit a million
meaning i bet the question speed picks up now (;

Tim
@rchern I was sad that the Google calendar couldn't add the time span to the base date from that post, heh.

I better decrease the wait on my script!

2:17 AM
@rchern speed increases with inverse proportionally to question quality

@rchern That was 30 min ago. I haven't see a visible uptick

oh? was it a retweet i just saw then?

Can anybody send me orange juice over the internet?

Anyway. I'm off. Later @Tim @Aiden @rchern and @Michael!

ah

Bye

bye @TheUnhandledException

@rchern re-throttling API requests

@Insilico I can't drink stuff like this:
I can't believe I even looked at that

Tim
Cookie Monster has no business being on an orange-flavoured juice drink.

@all Bye now, wish me luck

@YiJiang good luck

Tim
@YiJiang Good luck!

Q: Display Progress Bar at the Time of Process

If am getting a Data from the Database from start date to end date – at that time, I want to display progress bar like “Process please wait” How can I write a code? Need Help?

@Wil, the id number is for posts, not just questions

posts = questions and answers

Wil
@Rchern @Insilico Thanks - I tried about 10 different numbers at random and all lead to questions... just tried a couple more and it went to an answer!... ok, feel stupid!

there's 999,914 right now

Wil
...Just thinking how ironic it would be if suddenly on the millionth question, something happens like the site crashes and just full screen says "Stack Overflow" :S ok, not funny...

i'm not convinced he's correct. it isn't what the api told me

Does the api have any kind of internal numbering system?

4:46 AM
@LanceRoberts There's post IDs, but that doesn't really help

5:00 AM
Can someone help me?
Google Chrome refuses to respect my prevent default when you press Ctrl+N

Tim
@Chacha102 They may have taken the Opera route of not providing any way to block UI key bindings...not sure that there's anything you can do about that.
(Accessibility and such)

bah humbug...

Tim
I don't know that for sure though, in the case of Chrome.

Oh wells
I guess I'll settle for 'n' instead of ctrl n

5:23 AM
just ctrl+n? anything ctrl+*?

Tim

@MarcGravell, wassat then?

7:36 AM
One of those annoyingly large changes that does nothing the external user can see, but which is a key part of something down the road.
So you won't see any difference. If you do, I've borked it.
But internally the change to login is... comprehensive.

@MarcGravell, well I saw the 'you need 20 rep to participate notification bar', but apart from that, all's well on the western front

@MarcGravell I hate those changes that no one can see but are quite complicated to implement.

@MarcGravell: Well nothing seems broken, so the change must've been a success!

Right now I now there is something wrong with the world

The difference between a good and bad company is whether you're ever actually allowed to do them.

7:40 AM
This question which I consider quite creative
41
Q: Virtualization. For your girlfriend.

meleeOr boyfriend. It's all good. Here's a brief description of the issue at hand: Said girlfriend knows how to download torrents (of Linux ISOs) (...) despite multiple warnings from Boyfriend regarding random fun things like spamalware Girlfriend disregards advice "OMG what are these naked ladies...

Received an offensive flag? WTF?

@Diago, sexist?

Well, it did say "Or boyfriend." at the beginning.

@Benjol Within context I don't think so? But hey, I've seen the flag system abused so many times it shouldn't surprise me anymore. It is one of the rare questions that received awesome community support.

You could replace "girlfriend" in the question with pretty much anything and it wouldn't change the question one bit.

@Insilico Agreed.

7:44 AM
Wonder if someone would still flag the question if the OP replaced "girlfriend" with "unicorn".

Awww.... Did I miss the T-Shirt?

@Insilico Actually it may just receive more up-votes. It's honestly comedy hour for me in the morning when I log in and follow up on Mod Flags and other moderator duties on Super User
@YiJiang Which T-Shirt?

@MarcGravell I'm on one of these rewrites at this very second

@Diago The one Jeff promised everyone in the Countdown room at the time the one millionth question was asked will get
Or at least a sticker

@YiJiang - Yea sorry

7:46 AM
@YiJiang I am assuming we passed 1 million then?

@Diago Where have you been! There's even a blog post about it now
Posted by Jeff Atwood on October 12th, 2010

At about 9:26 PM Pacific time, on October 12th, 2010, the millionth question was asked on Stack Overflow. And then promptly closed.

This of course calls for a celebration.

There was an informal meta Contest to predict date and time that stackoverflow will eclipse 1,000,000 questions — once the community decides who the winner is, I think they should certainly be the proud recipient of a Stack Overflow t-shirt, stickers, and of course the million unicorn bill.

Since our 100,000th question and first birthday, we’ve skipped celebrating these things — but the millionth question is a major milestone. …

@Diago: Stack Overflow now has 1,000,287 questions (as of this writing according to the webpage)

@YiJiang Considering that I only woke up an hour and a half ago, then had to get to work, and I am only now starting to catch up online, I have been sleeping!

The shame, the unrelenting shame
Ashamed of the SO community heh

That was a "Nice answer" badge generator question
'bout 9 "Nice Anwers" so far

7:53 AM
@YiJiang: That's cool. I so far only have 1 "Nice Answer" on Meta. :-/

@Insilico I have 25 nice answers and 8 Enlightened. They are fairly easy to get on Meta.
Unicorns, waffles and some sarcasm normally helps
