Feature request: Add .svg as an image extension

2:19 AM
Not very many browsers support that natively, so that's more than just an allow, it's thumbnail generation as well.

2:34 AM
@Hello71 Are you sure? I know nothing about it, but Wikipedia says "All major modern web browsers except Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE), support and render SVG markup directly"

2:51 AM
@MichaelMrozek: Completely unsure.

Hmm. Well yeah, if it's not widely supported that definitely don't auto-inline it

4 hours later…
7:09 AM
@MichaelMrozek yes, unfortunately IE is the problem here

7:33 AM
Those words are spoken so often we should probably have an abbreviation for it

:)
in fact I'm right now doing some optimization for rooms with many many users in them
and again, this needs the most work for IE
so the loads of people don't crush the browser
@MichaelMrozek I mean, you can of course force it to be displayed as an image by prepending "!"

@balpha, so how many of my sockpuppets do you want me to join with? :)

@Benjol no need, thanks :) I've written myself a little bot
I have a room with 350 people crazy talking right here

I'm guessing you've turned sound notification off in there... ;)

actually not, but I've got music on right now, so not hearing it that much :)
my goal is to have that situation at least bearable on my atom netbook
which is not a problem -- except for IE

@balpha, dunno if this is you or Mark, but here's a scenario which happens to me quite often:
- write an implicit post "@balpha, dunno..." etc
- realise that it now needs to be an explicit reply
- hit up-cursor
- click on the 'reply' for the appropriate message
- 'rats!', that gives me @balpha @balpha
- edit down to ":39029," and save
- regexp doesn't like my comma, and it stays like that

first of all, his name is "Marc" :)
yeah, I see what you're saying -- not sure how to handle that, though

@balpha, oops, yes, quick edit me before he gets back!!

no hurry, he's on vacation

If I have my cursor over the "leave/switch room" icons when a new message appears in the room, the icons are displayed twice.
(!) I think. I've seen the icons duplicated before, but I can't reproduce it consistently.

You can.
Hover over the icons to show them, then click the room name to bring up the dialog, close the dialog and mouse over the icons again.

that didn't do it for me.
gimme a sec, then say something in the tavern

But don't report it as a bug, just push for this...

Q: Chat quick* links should be always visible

rchernI'm wondering what the motivation is to have the quickleave and quickswitch icons hidden by default and only visible when you hover over the area. With the icons hidden until you hover above them, this means that if you are moving your mouse there with the intent to switch rooms, it feels li...

Click room name, click x, click room name, click x, click room name, click x...

well played.
I see it now.
That's a bug.
Or. a feature.

Question about frozen rooms: Is there any way to un-freeze them? Specifically the PHP room. I feel it has value and would happily lurk there...
If I understand, it's frozen because it has value but has been stagnant, am I understanding that correctly?

yes
and yes, moderators can unfreeze frozen rooms

thanks @balpha!
What would you suggest I do to prove to a mod that the room has value and should be unfrozen?
Does just staying in there do any good?

I've unfrozen it

You rock @balpha! Thanks!

5:11 PM
@rchern that's quick-fixed
I'll wait for a decision on the links before I go with a real css solution

@balpha you're fixing the bugs faster than I can find flaws. You need to take more vacations. Or, y'know, actually vacation while on them.

5:40 PM
Random bug report of the now
becomes
heh, the double beautifier doesn't work across rooms

Wait, what's the bug here?

no, replying doesn't work across rooms
this is what I see:

@balpha me too

← 11 messages moved from The Tavern (General)
so what would you expect to see?
you mean the @name?

5:49 PM
yeah, although the reply arrow is visible
on my darker gray background it was harder to notice

I see your point
will think about it

eh, no biggie.

expect a fix in 6-8 weeks

It might be more confusing for the receiver of the reply who might be looking for the blue text.

true that

5:54 PM
I knew that looked familiar:
Aug 20 at 20:55, by Popular Demand
Also, the formatting is kind of weird for a reply that consists solely of a oneboxed link. Not sure if this is by design, but it looks bad to me.

@balpha Novice. He should be expecting an estimate in 6-8 weeks.

@balpha aww, I'd rather you did those in the reverse order :p

@rchern Heh.
@balpha when did you invite me to this room? I just got the notification.

one of the moved messages was yours
all message authors automatically get invited to the target room when the messages get moved

I was wondering about that.

6:05 PM
@balpha What if we don't want them? Just their content.

don't want what?

@devinb You can call me out by name, it's okay.

ah, the authors
gotcha
well, if it's your room they get moved to, and you've made it "read-only unless I say otherwise", and you haven't allowed them to talk, they won't get invited
SEE? WE'VE THOUGHT OF EVERYTHING! MUUAAAHAHAHA

\o/

I'm once again in awe of you @balpha

6:54 PM
@balpha If you check here and hover on the boxes, you'll see that the reply highlight and reply arrow colours are the same. I guess the answer is using black arrows with an alpha channel...

Wikipedia-speak

It's, well, speaking and, uh, Wikipedia.

7:06 PM
@badp aahh, I know what you mean -- you'll only say that on your own replies, though

uh, not really
the scenario there is reply of reply

because the background color of your own messages is an almost identical grey

@balpha That's what I complained about before :)

@badp okay, yeah -- that's an even closer grey

wow, it's tough to see the differences between these shades of gray. I agree

7:49 PM
Are suspended users banned from chat as well?

@PopularDemand I don't think directly, but they have 1 rep so they can't talk anyway

@PopularDemand If not they should be, no?

@MichaelMrozek Good point, I forgot about that. And it came up in a previous discussion, too.
I was wondering about users banned on sites other than MSO, though.
Won't be an issue after chat is made site-specific, of course.

@PopularDemand yes, the suspension is imported from the parent site

There's got to be something you all haven't thought of yet.
How about free waffles and bacon with every chat? Or is that already [status-planned]?

8:06 PM
@PopularDemand Where's the meta question? I will upvote
:-)

@Josh That was just a reference to something balpha said two hours ago.

@PopularDemand Damn. Here I was hoping for some unicorn-shaped waffles
To get back on topic though... I see that the SuperUser and ServerFault rooms seem to show a feed from the site. How's that work? It can't be showing all questions from the sites, can it?
Can that feature be added for tags on a particular site, E.G could the PHP room show all new [php] posts from stackoverflow.com?

@Josh Dunno about SU/SF, but Gaming is -- or at least, was -- set up to have all new questions pop up.
Not sure how much traffic you have to have before that becomes overwhelming.

@PopularDemand I think SU's traffic would qualify :-)

@Josh Probably. I barely visit SU anymore.

8:18 PM
Is meta.stackoverflow.com the best place to request/suggest new chat features?
@PopularDemand Because the questions are too broad?

@Josh Quite the opposite, actually; at one point I saw a front page that seemed to be made up entirely of questions asking about a specific model of computer or sound card or driver or whatever.

@PopularDemand Okay yeah, I know what you mean :-)

Any plan to migrate this chat feature to serverfault? I'd LOVE to have a chat feature but for specific serverfault-ish topics (e.g. email administration, internet security, etc.)
