@balpha Can any chat moderator access any protected room. Ie. If I want a mod only room do I need to add every meta mod?

@Diago Any chat moderator (which by definition is identical to a meta mod here) can access a private room. It is possible to make a room more restrictive, so that even moderators have to be given explicit access, but that option is (obviously) only available to site administrators

@balpha Thanks. Clears it up for me!

If a room has been frozen, how to I find out what has caused it to be frozen (when I'm the owner)?
And how to unfreeze it?

@Richard When last where you in it and which room?\

@Richard You can usually assume it has been frozen for lack of activity, unless a moderator told you they froze it for a different reason.
For your particular case, be aware that feed activity doesn't count -- the chat isn't an RSS aggregator :)

http://chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/rooms/106/net-feed
Its been idle since Wed (probably)

@balpha is here so I am no longer needed

@Diago thanks... it is the relevant Q (I had assumed)

10:25 AM
It's no longer frozen

Chat might not be an aggregator, but provides a rapid cycle time for watching a SO tag (and should be able to do it more efficiently than an external agent)

oh, it's fine to have a room with discussions about a particular topic also include the relevant feed
but if the whole purpose of the room is displaying the feed (as the room title suggests) -- that's really not what this is for

@Richard I agree with @balpha. It's senseless to have rooms with no activity. It's what RSS readers are there for

Since when has a tool's original purpose been the only way it is used? (Twitter being an example -- never intended to share ideas/links.)
But I take the point...
The room was originally created to host discussions as well, but never took off.

Also note that this does no more than any feed aggregator -- it pulls the exact same RSS feed as any other reader, so it's not quicker by any means

So, in my humble opinion (ie, not worth much!), @balpha and @Marc, +1 for quickleave and quickswitch being always visible, -1 for esc not clearing title/gravatar notifications. (:

that's +2 then
assuming we get +1 for esc very well clearing title/gravatar notifications :)

hrm

@rchern Ping Pong?
(Let's see if esc works)

@Diago: In the moderators' (Teachers' Lounge) room, you (and @balpha) are set to read only. Do you know why that is?
@balpha: On the 'access settings' screen, the description of what "explicit write access" is incorrect.

@RobertCartaino diago and ivo were playing around
it doesn't really matter for mods

@RobertCartaino @balpha Correction @Ivo was playing around. I am innocent. I promise
@balpha Back stabber :P

So, I can fix (even if its just to satisfy my OCD for keeping it "correct")?

sure

Thanks.

2:44 PM
@RobertCartaino in what way?

@Diago: Okay, not guilty. @Ivo gets 10 lashes; you can administer.
@balpha: "in what way" what?

hover over a reply and the replied-to post is highlighted :)

Explicit read access:
Regardless of the room's general access setting and their reputation, these users will be able to talk in this room.
No, they wont----------------------------------------------------------------------------^^^

@RobertCartaino Awesome, Can I choose the torture device :)

@RobertCartaino which part do you mean is incorrect?

2:48 PM
@Diago Geneva convention says you can only use a rubber or animal hide-tipped whips. No broken glass.

@RobertCartaino Darn convention. Oh well. The rubber will have to do.

If it's "read access" (not write access), they will NOT be able to talk. correct?

aaah, the description of explicit read access
yeah, you're right

Yes, "the description".

just for the record :)

2:52 PM
Buggers.
See? Never put anything in writing.

fixed

Thanks.
@balpha: Were you (or @Marc) going to add the tweak so I could enter URLs to 'add user' instead of just user IDs?

in Teachers' Lounge, 3 hours ago, by Ivo Flipse
I can put you and Diago on read-only

@RobertCartaino you mean the user profile url?

I actually mentioned they were on read-only, but they could still type strangely, so I assume mods override it

2:59 PM
@balpha Yes.

didn't know about that idea
but yeah, should be doable

Must have been @marc. It works better with my workflow of getting moderators going and I can be more assured that I am adding the right user.

noted; I'll hack that in on the weekend

Hmm, my quicklinks are disappearing into hover-only

@rchern you must be behind some really aggressively chaching proxy
you always report bugs in yesterday's JavaScript :)

):
apparently I have 2 versions of master-chat.js being used in this page. 17493987 and 7141266

those aren't really versions

Oh

those are random numbers that get changed on each build
to prevent caching
but not really all browsers/proxies/whatever care about that

6:39 PM

That's why.
