@badp - what device/platform? In not aware of either, but we can look.
(as in: neither turning grey nor clearing on entry is known to me, and I use mobile a lot)

I don't experience it with any other sites, however.
Could it be that I'm tapping the screen in the wrong place to dismiss the onscreen keyboard?
Although once a message hasn't greyed out, no amount of further textbox focus events turns it into gray again

it surely makes it easier for myself to get aggravated.
I probably tap in the wrong place to dismiss the keyboard; that triggers the problem
not quite sure where it is I tap though. Stupid fat fingers.

okay, trying on the device itself with the stylus.
because this problem just is that annoying.
you painstakingly type your message for a minute
then bam! it's there, gray, mocking you
and have to start over.
I guess, however, that for now it's just
status-norepro
closes Opera Mobile, defeated

the only time we disable the input box is when you tap on "menu"
