Units are missing from chat statistics graphs: chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/rooms/info/77/… I assume y-axis is messages or users and x-axis is days relative to current time.

Q: Private Messages - Will StackChat reopen the debate?

AmiI know that a SO private-message feature has been repeatedly declined on this site. However, once StackChat is running, wouldn't such a feature be really useful? Ie: "hey man, meet me in chillaxing at 3:30," "we had a really nice conv. tonight, can I get your email address?" or "you're project ...

@MarcGravell, Another thing I've thought about is private/direct messaging. People are going to carry on asking for it, I fear. The main reason invoked is being able to send other people 'private' contact details. I think that if you satisfy that need, it might remove some of the strength of the demand. Idea: people could enter their contact details once in their profile, then you'd have a special syntax/button for making them visible to a specific user.

"but allowing "secret messages" to be sent would be very, very dangerous." what..
PM:s could/should be like any open chat room but in order to join you need to be invited first.
And someone should create a chrome-extension for this chat ;)

It's somewhat odd that the [status-declined] from the answer Shog9 posted doesn't show up in moderator colors

wut? It does for me...

not in the chat @Shog9

ooooh
BUUUUUG!

you should find someone in charge and report it to them
oh, wait...

MARC!
(I'm guessing the moderator status for tags isn't exposed in the API?)

7:30 PM
nope
at least not on the questions/ endpoint

prolly not worth fixing then ;-)

@balpha Ooh Ooh Ooh I have a feature request. I want a x is busy typing a message message to appear so I know when someone is about to say something :)

Actually, Sarcasm doesn't work that well online

well, it's been (seriously) proposed several times :)

@Shog9 are you referring to the StackApps API? Or is there some chat API that I haven't heard about?

Somehow I am not surprised at all :) But seriously, this looks and works awesomely. Really Really impressed by the work you and Marc did on this.

8:08 PM
thanks -- it's also a pretty fun project to work on

@balpha is there a possibility in the distant future of chat embracing open-source?

oh, we embrace open source right now :)
I guess you'll have to be more specific

is there any chance of some chat features being open-sourced?

I don't know, we haven't really talked about that.

ok, thanks! :)

8:52 PM
Fully missed that the chat is back in action after the alpha

@diago Peh. That's just half-assed - if you're gonna do it, do it right: show the actual text, as it's being typed, like the Warcraft chat... or Wave

9:45 PM
argh... Why is the little pop-up toolbar back at the end of the comment instead of floating to the right?

not many people here

WAKE UP, MARC
YOUR CSS IS IRRITATING ME

the matrix has you

hauls blackboard up stairs to Marc's door, banging every step
hauls rake up stairs, pausing to hammer against rail
drags rake across blackboard
