4:00 PM
Hi @sha! Hi @Zoe!
vsb js for(i=0;i<5;i++)log("Hi, @"+random.choice(["sha","Zoe"])+"!")

Hi, @Zoe!
Hi, @Zoe!
Hi, @Zoe!
Hi, @sha!
Hi, @sha!

we need to have a talk about boundaries
2

@Zoe Um, what do you mean?

Stop. Pinging. Via. Bot.
2

~ Stars get removed under peer-pressure?

4:04 PM
@Mithical OK, sorry, I was just kidding, I'm going to stop doing that now :)

@KennyBOT Did a user remove a star?

@Ann Nope, @KennyBOT was mistaken ;D

I want to make a bot. Do you recommend it?

What Mith said, and in general, don't ping people when they're slow to reply. Everyone here has other stuff to do at times. Ping wars have happened in the past, but they usually involve two people who, well, agree to have a ping war, and usually when both are active. These half a billion pings and having rando 235 dumped on me for focusing on other stuff isn't okay

@Ann Who are you asking to?

4:10 PM
I normally don't mind pings that lead to a conversation or something fun, and I don't classify a bunch of bot pings as fun

@Zoe Sorry, I apologize for those bot pings, I ain't going to do that again :)

๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿคฆ

@TechExpertWizard Any user who made a chat bot before.

@AnnZen yes

I think I've made two or three bots based on three different frameworks :')
Ooh, nice, 4004 rep :drooling_face:

4:12 PM
@Ann I'm learning how to make a chatbot from @Vic. You can go to his Discord server and take a look at his tutorial for me about making chatbots :) I'll give you the link.

@Ann @The wait a sec, I'm still new to Discord actually, let me see how I can give the link...
@The But I need to remind you that I am the King of the Den :)

๐Ÿคฆ

*eyeroll*

@Mithical @The Um, what?

4:17 PM
@sha what's most celebrated festival in Judaism?
And in which month it is celebrated?

@Ann I'm going to teach you how to make a chatbot 'cause @Vic's Discord server isn't ready yet so he can't provide the invitation link. First question: Do you know Python?

@TechExpertWizard Yes!!!!!!!!

@Ann That's good, come here :)

Thank you :)

4:54 PM
@AnnZen it's a known bug, @rene might be able to explain why it happens... :)
@Zoethe1337Princess well, you did use a bot to ping. Remember? ;)
BTW... any chance to revive that bot?
Your bot had "protection mode" that caused it to ping back whoever pinged you.
Anyway @Tech if you feel urge to ping, ping me - I can take anything you can dump on me, so it's fine. :-P
@Tech but expect pings in return!
Where is @Tech?

@Tinkeringbell I'm going to let my bot post on meta.stackexchange.com/questions/357952/… whereI already posted with this profile. Is that okay?

I never had a proper bot

@TheLittleNaruto tricky question, lol. Depends what you mean by "festival". We have several holidays, each is very different. If you mean "happy" holiday, that would be Purim.
Purim (; Hebrew: ืคึผื•ึผืจึดื™ืโ€Ž Pûrîm "lots", from the word ืคื•ืจโ€Ž pur, translated as 'lot' in the Esther, perhaps related to Akkadian pลซru 'stone, urn'; also called the Festival of Lots) is a Jewish holiday which commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, an Achaemenid Persian Empire official who was planning to kill all the Jews, as recounted in the Book of Esther (ืžื’ื™ืœืช ืืกืชืจโ€Ž Megillat Ester in Hebrew; usually dated to the 5th century BC). Haman was the royal vizier to King Ahasuerus (Xerxes I or Artaxerxes I of Persia, "Khshayarsha" and "Artakhsher" in Old Persian, respectively), and...

I need to go now, please ping me :)

@Zoethe1337Princess oh, come on, don't get modest. Your bot was awesome and the only bot I've ever seen in chat with non-silly AI.

5:00 PM
I had some JS modifications for pings

So it didn't know to pee or poo or WAG.. so what? :D

Protection mode might've been Java, but AFAIK, most of it was JS

@AnnZen yes you can, no need to ask a mod, as long as the two accounts don't interact, you're free to have them. :)

The pyramid one was JS at least
Or ascii art or whatever

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating For example, for Christians it is Christmas
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Reading
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating very nice "days of feasting and gladness" :)
This is good: "Donating charity to the poor known as mattanot la-evyonim"

5:15 PM
@TheLittleNaruto hmm... well, that's New Year's holiday, which we do have, though for us it's much more "formal" and important:
Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew: ืจึนืืฉื ื”ึทืฉึธึผืื ึธื”โ€Ž), literally meaning "head [of] the year", is the Jewish New Year. The biblical name for this holiday is Yom Teruah (ื™ื•ึนื ืชึฐึผืจื•ึผืขึธื”โ€Ž), literally "day of shouting or blasting". It is the first of the Jewish High Holy Days (ื™ึธืžึดื™ื ื ื•ึนืจึธืึดื™ืโ€Ž Yamim Nora'im. "Days of Awe") specified by Leviticus 23:23โ€“32 that occur in the early autumn of the Northern Hemisphere. Rosh Hashanah is a two-day celebration that begins on the first day of Tishrei, which is the seventh month of the ecclesiastical year. In contrast to the ecclesiastical year, where the first month Nisan...
All details I can give are already there ^

BTW you may want to read this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_India @sha
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating yeah I am reading

@TheLittleNaruto yes, and giving food packages to each other
@TheLittleNaruto well think this one should be done all-year, not just Purim.

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Agree

@TheLittleNaruto yeah, already know/heard about parts of this. It's no wonder India is a very close ally of Israel.

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Yeah right
Do you have any spiritual text?

5:20 PM
@TheLittleNaruto we all get copy of the Holy Bible as kids... sadly not sure where is my own (probably stashed at my mother's house), but two of my kids do have a copy. Why?

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Just curious to know that how much importance Judaism's text gives to Spirituality

Other than the Bible, never really read any other spiritual text. (Not religious)
@TheLittleNaruto oh... no idea. Maybe @Mithical knows more?

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Is she/he/they from Israel ?

@TheLittleNaruto they, not she, and yes, from Israel.

5:23 PM
@Zoe is a "she", or "they" - I prefer "she" as she's a princess. :D
@Mithical is only "they/them" - which is fine. :)

@TheLittleNaruto unsure what the meaning of the question is

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating hehe
@Mithical Ignore that question; Is there any text which talks of Spirituality in detail? [In Judaism]

@TheLittleNaruto lol also invalid, once someone states their pronoun, we should use only this.

@TheLittleNaruto I'm unsure how you're defining "spirituality" here, that's the problem

5:25 PM
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Okay sorry! I didn't know about them being "they" :)
@Mithical I would say general meaning i.e. "path to liberation"

@TheLittleNaruto all good, you know now. :D

Yeah :)

@Mithical think he means discussions about ื“ื‘ืจื™ื ื‘ืจื•ืžื• ืฉืœ ืขื•ืœื, think we got plenty in the ืงื‘ืœื”. No?

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Sorry for my illiteracy about pronouns; but is "they" used for elders as in old aged people? We use this pronoun in our language for elders often.

throwing spirit on @Tech
@Tech will you be the new @Dro?

5:30 PM
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating So I can have two accounts answer the same post?

@AnnZen hmm.... that's tricky. Better not.
Guess you can, but.. dunno, not something I will do myself. :)
No other "rep fest" winter bash discussions?
@TheLittleNaruto oh, no... not related at all. It's about the way the person wants to be referred to by others.

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating aye

@Mithical zimmerman (?)

That's the main trigger for the whole Monica drama, @TheLittleNaruto

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Good to know. BTW, that's the question you answered "yes" to earlier :)

5:34 PM
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Oh Man! I didn't know that; A pronoun could become that big problem.

Monica had issues with SE demanding moderators to use the preferred pronouns, and when she asked to clarify those issues... booom! No more diamonds.
That's probably the most short version ever lol ^
@AnnZen well, I didn't check to see if you posted there as well or not.... ;)

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating TBH these things out of my view sounds crazy on SE platform. I mean who cares about one's pronoun; it's a knowledge sharing platform. As long as knowledge is shared; all good. FOr everything else "flag" is the option.

Oh. What do you mean preferred pronouns?

@TheLittleNaruto yes, by not using it, or using different pronoun on purpose, one might offend the other person.
@AnnZen the way you want others to address you. For example, if you're a female but want to be referred to as male, it's your right. You can ask people to refer to you with "he/him".

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating hmm.. crazy stuffs.

5:37 PM
@TheLittleNaruto welcome to 2020, my friend. :)

haha ikr

It was here long before, of course, but over time it becomes more and more known to other people.

Sorry @Mithical by mistake I used wrong pronoun for you. Hope you'll forgive me for this sin.

@TheLittleNaruto that was the company opinion for long years, yes.

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating I see
nice

5:40 PM
Time to fix the PDF, got only 20 minutes until bath time. Cya!

later
I'll go offline as well. Thanks for all those wiki links @sha :)

5:56 PM
@TheLittleNaruto "they" in modern english also has a use as a singular pronoun. Aside some people having it as their preferred pronoun (like Mith), it's also commonly used to refer to people you don't know the gender of, as in a replacement for the (in my opinion, ridiculous) he/she/they or (s)he constructs
It's a relatively new meaning though, so even though it's in the dictionary, it's some times rejected ("the people who wrote the dictionary were wrong")

> dates back to before singular "you"
> relatively new

6:13 PM
It's that old?

@Mithical When were you elected moderator of Literature?

@AnnZen I wasn't
I was appointed by the Stack Exchange team in February 2017
But it wasn't an election

@Mithical oh.
Did anyone else get appointed alongside?

6:35 PM
> Since forms may exist in speech long before theyโ€™re written down, itโ€™s likely that singular they was common even before the late fourteenth century.
So basically, we've regressed :')

7:17 PM
@Zoethe1337Princess regression tests could've prevented that ;)

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Um, what do you mean?
vsb js log("Hello!")

Hello!

7:32 PM
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating I left 'cause I had an unexpected emergency I had to deal with ;D
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Where's @Zoe's bot?

@Tinkeringbell If we could keep humans from going back, the world would probably be a less shit place :')
@TechExpertWizard Dead

@Zoethe1337Princess stench (?)

9:44 PM
@Zoe Your bot's dead? That's too bad ;D

not really. Horrible code

@Zoe Um, what do you mean?

I mean
The code was horrible

@Zoe Then why did @sha say your bot was pretty good?

@Zoethe1337Princess I don't know. Perhaps if we never gotten societies as large as they are now and would've just stuck with hunting and gathering... All depends on your definition and metrics ;)

9:48 PM
Hi, @Ann!
https://chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8674958

@Tinkeringbell That's just no progress though
But it's possible to have progerss without constantly regressing

>>cat I'm getting lonely ;D

@TechExpertWizard I'm getting lonely ;D

@Zoethe1337Princess I hope so! I like internet ;) but every benefit has downsides, I think. That seems realistic to me.

@Zoe Oh, lol :)

@Zoethe1337Princess Nope, hasn't worked for a loong time. Something changed on Twitter's side iirc

@Tinkeringbell Sure, but take flat earth societies - they've regressed about 1200-1400 years on physics because they're so obsessed there's a conspiracy. There's always going to be regressions, but most of them seem to actively hurt us instead

@Zoe @Tink Actually, flat earth societies have regressed about 2,200 years since the time of the Greek astronomer Eratosthenes ;D

@Zoethe1337Princess regressions can hurt, true. I'm just saying progress comes with its own downsides

9:54 PM
The green one wasn't believed though
well, probably was, but then someone else came with contradicting theories. The round earth was at that point purely theoretical, anyway
Around 600-800 (6-8 haunts me xd), IIRC anyway, the initial physics aspects were handled
went from theory to having math and slowly observations to back it up
The only way gravity can work is if the earth is round, and since everything has mass, large bodies of mass necessarily seek to get as close to the center as possible
Recent advances in those bits of physics (along with quantum theory) indicates that every object in the universe has an impact on spacetime
In a plain 2D understanding, it makes a pit in the universe that stuff falls into (heavily oversimplified, though)
That just isn't possible with a flat object, because it would make gravity impossible
Of course, they come up with nonsense countertheories based on their own distorted understanding of physics (and none of them actually understand real physics) to keep up the illusion.
Up until we had math or observations to back it up, though, the earth being flat was a valid theory
We now have observations on (you can travel around the planet) and off the planet (images from space), as well as math and physics, and people still deny it
