@ShadowWizard you are still checking once in a while ;)

@DamienPaul why laughing? :( ):
@DroidDev heh, true! BTW you can reply with single words, bot won't reply since you didn't join the game. :)
user335633
06:35
god damned android
user335633
now, am trying to convert sqlite db to csv and save to an internal file
Maybe @Dro can come for the rescue once again... ;)
user335633
6 hours of wrestling with code for nothing

@FOX9000 precisely
@ShadowWizard matrice
user335633
06:50
@ShadowWizard no, actually i didn't
@DamienPaul what exactly did you do in those 6 hours?
user335633
tried to understand how to save sqlite db to csv in a sdcard, with the idiotic new permissions from api23
@DamienPaul surely you did something... even if it didn't work... no?
user335633
@ShadowWizard if it doesn't work = waste of time
user335633
all i want to do is save the db file in an aaccessible part of the device, preferably the desktop
07:00
Well, from my experience, even failed attempts give something, e.g. you learn what not to do next time... :)
user335633
may have to post a question...(rather not)
@DamienPaul your single SO question got upvote and decent answers.... that's not so bad...
user335633
do not know how to word it because the information i have read so far is frustratingly unclear
user335633
still reading and the various pages do not make sense at all
07:30
@ShadowWizard actually, never tried that...sorry @DamienPaul maybe @ber can help
@ShadowWizard oh....I think that habit has gone because of bot, once and for all
@DroidDev but @ber is gone.... :P
@DroidDev too bad! ;)
user335633
i am close to giving up
@DamienPaul better give down :D
user335633
i just wish for explanatory code in plain english

A: How to convert data base records into csv file in android?

malavikaHi do like this.... package com.my.CSVcreation; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileWriter; import java.io.IOException; import android.app.Activity; import android.app.ProgressDialog; import android.content.Context; import android.database.Cursor; import android.database.SQLException; import...

user335633
07:34
unfortunately without the new permissions crap, it won't work
user335633
already tried it
user335633
I would be happy with the db file being saved to the desktop
user335633
this kind of crap is necessary stackoverflow.com/a/37358852/6613600
@DamienPaul well....that isn't very big (permission crap). You can just leave the errors there for testing purposes and code will still work and also, if you don't want that, Android studio can just auto-generate code for you. Just keep that written and below that, write your code ;)
user335633
however getting the db saved elsewhere doesn't happen
07:39
@DamienPaul what is the error that you are getting?
user335633
permission denied
@DamienPaul have you given the permissions in manifest file?
user335633
yup
user335633
that monstrous crap is now required in api 23 or above
in your device, you can also manually allow permissions for app, from settings
try that
user335633
07:42
this app will be used by other researchers, using their devices - must be prepared for that
user335633
and i can not seem to find how to save to the device's desktop, not the sdcard
yea, but for now, our goal is to test if your code for saving db as csv, is working on not. After that, you can move towards writing monstrous crap ;)
user335633
am happy to keep the files as db
user335633
eventually these files will be sent to a central database
user335633
and asking volunteers to root their phone is not an option
07:45
then you can just go for permissions crap. Its not that difficult though, you will be able to find easy examples and explanations on google's own tutorials
user335633
i have been trying them out all day (6+ hours today)
user335633
they are not clear to me - where in my mainActivity do I write all that?
('._.)
user335633
like i said, on the verge of quitting
when asking for permission, you can just write it above the code, which requires permissions
then, callback can be written as one, for whole activity
user335633
07:46
so in onCreate?
just like onClick or something else, where "this" can be passed
@DamienPaul yea, if your code is there, then yes
user335633
and then in the on click for the save database button, do I need to add anything?
@DamienPaul if that requires permissions as well, then you'll need to check them again
user335633
now i am confused
user335633
07:49
all i want to do is on clicking a button, to have the db saved in the phone storage
this is simplest example and explanation around
user335633
unfortunately i have read it a few times
@DamienPaul ok, so, on your button click, you need to ask for permission, and in callback, you can add specific cases, for every type of permission, you are checking. When it arrives in your callback, you can check if you have permission and then continue with your code
user335633
can't i just get the permission when the app starts and be done with it?
@DamienPaul yea, that could be done, but user can later decide to revoke the permission while your app is in background and then resume it again, and at that time, your app won't ask for permissions
oh....I have an idea though
you can try to write this code in Application class' onResume method. That might run everytime app is resumed from background
user335633
07:55
one thing for certain, once this is done - i am NEVER using android again,..,,, going back to Python
if that works, you'll be done with it once and for all
user335633
then i will need to work out how to save the file to the device storage (not sdcard)
user335633
my app will only work on tablets - sick of fiddling around with the XML files
user335633
@DroidDev isn't there an easy way just to save the db in an accessible area of the internal storage without all this??
user335633
I know I would be slammed if I posted that as a question
08:05
@DamienPaul ummm...I don't think so....
user335633
@DroidDev another failing of android
@DamienPaul do one thing, write the things that you have tried, with the errors that you got....put various links from where you tried those.....
just like below

Q: React JS in HTML

DroidDevI am totally new to React JS or any given server-side technology. And now, I want to learn how to develop in React JS. Introduction I started with React JS tutorials on official website. Now, I am trying to import React toolbox or any other third-party component into my JSX code. But, I am faci...

that is my question, just a noob question, but I managed to avoid a single downvote on that one, though not many upvotes either, but I was tired after many days, so....
user335633
sounds like me now
look at the title, it doesn't even define the problem ;)
thing is, you have to show that you tried to solve the problem, but you are facing errors. Put links of things you tried in there and errors that you faced and nobody will downvote
user335633
well, I will give it a go - the worst case scenario is not the donvotes, but the semantic lectures/comments about how a post should be written
08:10
@DamienPaul oh...don't worry about it....someone might come along, edit your post and correct it ;)
user335633
that would be fine
user335633
@DroidDev a handy thing in starting to write a question - similar links are shown - this one stackoverflow.com/a/15971326/6613600 - am I reading correctly that it is a way to generate a backup db file?
@DamienPaul yea, that might be it. You can save path in "backupDBPath" and wohooooo!!!
user335633
hmmm i'll investigate this and then ask a question if needed
user335633
by the way, good question
user335633
08:30
@DroidDev this may be the way...still investigating
@DamienPaul just write the code and look for file ;)
user335633
i know wher ethe file is - it is saved in the same place for all devices
I meant the backup file :P
user335633
aah yes, internal storage or desktop
user335633
documents folder
user335633
09:42
@DroidDev @ShadowWizard question asked
10:22
yo
user335633
yo
11:04
@DamienPaul you got an answer, and that might be it :)
my answer with highest votes, I banged my head against wall for 5 days, before I asked a question and then I posted that answer on same question with full code, if somebody else ever needed it
user335633
hmmm this is something I will need to read
user335633
so I just write all that onCreate
user335633
11:22
@DroidDev?
@DamienPaul on your button click, where you want to create backup
user335633
ah, so I have a public void <buttonclick>(View view) bit - I put it all in there?
@DamienPaul yea, I think it'll all have to go in there. I think class is made that way...haven't looked at code though
I am here
@DroidDev damn
11:37
@berserk well....yea > kudi chahe ik na set hove, akh ni madi te rakhni ;)
envy! envy! envy! :P
bwahahaha
btw
I got a mail for a job in Hamburg, Germany.
Tho it seems little fishy... I tried looking for company at google, but no info about it.
hmmm....I have almost given up on foreign job....it is, if someone keep pushing me, I'll keep doing it, otherwise, I am just sitting here :/
life is so much boring....I might get married in next 2 years and I don't even have money for a honeymoon trip to nearest city :/
lol wtf
this is kinda similar to what I think about my sex life...
11:51
@berserk how is this similar?
to be precise, the first sentence...
you know what is in my mind always, right? :/
oh...now its clear. Hows your father btw?
much better now, he goes for 3 rounds of walk in the street each day, holding a stick in one hand, and a little support from a person
hmm...I think there's just one more month, give or take and then he'll be fine
yeah my father think same, but I still think 2 months at least for him to walk without any support
tho my mother is having some problem in walking now :/
its really weird, doctors said there is nothing wrong
its like she can walk properly on the rough ground, like in lawn, or other rough surface, but she can't walk properly on tile floor
I don't know what to do. We even had a checkup at fortis where she undergo knee replacement last year.
12:06
well...umm....why?
what do you mean by "can't walk properly"?
actually she rubbed mustard oil on her leg and feet one night, and from very next day, this problem came
she feels like she will fall
unable to take step
like the legs freeze at a point
tho no problem at rough floor, like in lawn
user335633
I am goign to try the code now
which code?
code of conduct? :3
that is weird, its like superstitious stuff....I remember someone, a sister of friend, her leg stopped working (don't know specifics), they did shani puja and everything was fine :/
....and now they go to temple every saturday
smh
well, doctors said same, but I am sure this is not the case...
I mean she can walk properly for some time, like until noon, then the problem comes again
user335633
12:10
@berserk stackoverflow.com/q/40104793/6613600 - this code ... I am goign to try the code suggested in the answer
@DamienPaul are you using goign on purpose? XD
user335633
nope, typing too fast
Where are you from? :3
user335633
mars
I thought aliens don't talk to us, but that is not the case...
rip dem memez...
user335633
12:13
currently Queensland, soon to be Victoria, then Western Australia
cool
@berserk well....that reminded me of something, today my junior asked me, "Sir, my monitor ain't showing anything, please have a look". I went to her seat and turned it on...
user335633
I hope I don't get downvoted - took me forever to write that question
@DroidDev But did she turn you on? ( Í¡° ͜ʖ Í¡°)
@DamienPaul Not sure if I understood properly, but do you want to create a db in internal memory of device? (means not in cache)
@berserk but she did something utterly stupid
and she does it frequently
user335633
12:19
@berserk I want to retrieve a copy or the db from my sqlite database
@DroidDev lol yeah that was indeed stupid
user335633
holy odd socks, an upvote!
@DamienPaul I think you can make a backup. Tho you can't browse directly the db file inside data folder, but I think you can copy it programmetically.
@berserk well, if they want money from you then it's 99.999% a scam.
@ShadowWizard I just replied to them that I am interested. They sent me a mail that they are looking for a job for me.
And yeah, if they gonna ask for money, I won't pay.
The company seems doubtful to me already.
12:25
@Dam nice question, hope the answer is what you want! I've edited it a bit.... (the answer ;))
@berserk yup, glad you're suspicious, it's sad to see many people fall for scams.
"Give us $1000 and you'll get your dream job!"
user335633
@berserk that is what i want, but preferably not to the sdcard
@ShadowWizard The answer seems to be not what is actually asked.
@ShadowWizard I'd like @ber to think they are legit and then I'd like them to be scam, so @ber can loose some money ;P
@ShadowWizard yeah, never gonna fall for that stupid tricks
@berserk that's up to @Dam, I don't really understand the basis of all this, android is foreign to me... :/
12:27
@ShadowWizard haha, same here
@DroidDev but... you're android developer... or was.... no?
user335633
uh oh found a problem
user335633
ah wait... hold on...
@DroidDev I am speechless... :|
12:29
|:
brb need to get clothes from iron-man :/
@berserk sounds.... nasty! :P
@ShadowWizard yea, I am, but android is still foreign to me ;)
user335633
so far so good
12:42
Good!
user335633
now the fun part - using this - I have all the code from his github in my app now
user335633
so far, no red squiggles in Android Studio - not created a wormhole here... yet
user335633
WOW!
user335633
a bit of code that allows me to save and convert to .csv

A: Exporting SQLite Database to csv file in android

@DamienPaul I think your question can be marked as duplicate of this one and closed
user335633

14:51
i have already overtook @ShadowWizard
15:10
Back!
@GrenadesPlus if you did, I didn't feel anything, so it was worthless. :P
@DamienPaul well, won't be hard to overtake me by questions score, I have only few SO questions. ;)
So @Gren since your baby boy is so.... big.... what kind of diapers you put on him?! ;)
@Rubisco nah, those aren't diapers... it will just leak... to Tavern.... :D
@ShadowWizard Blame Google
