user315433
(From the description of Freshman Forum at Marshmallow University)

user315433
I'd think their shared boozing up experience should be enough...

user315433
I'd absolutely hate this thing if I was a student here.

I've never even heard something like this prior to your mentioning it, @Marshmallow.

user315433
This may well be in your near future. :/

12:15 AM
Why, you think I'm going to attend Marshmallow University? :P

user315433
It's not just our invention. Look around. Sometimes called "1st year forum".

I didn't think Marshmallow's alma mater had it...

haha, I'm glad my University doesn't have those silly getting-to-know-people events
because like who wants to make friends, right

user315433
@hichris123 They have First Year Reading program; everyone gets (the same) book to read, with some group discussions and eventually a visit by the author of said book to campus.

user315433
Overall, much less time wasted. đź‘Ť

12:22 AM
@Marshmallow huh I don't remember hearing about that. I remember hearing about the 1st year writing course, but no reading course.

user315433
It's not a course; just a "thing".

Oh, that makes sense.
I'm still surprised no one talked about that.

user315433
It's hardly a major selling point of the MarshMater University.

lol

user315433
They have better things to boast of. If you went there, would it be in Engineering school?

12:24 AM
Maybe? I dunno.
I remember them talking about the beauty of the campus a lot. And the quad. But it is pretty.

user315433
Not to mention expensive.

no kidding.

user315433
@Quill This isn't really making friends, though. It's about gaining appreciation for liberal arts education.

wow Facebook has a "who's this friend" game to unlock your account

So uh... GitHub desktop decided to use SSH again?

Q: What to do with the "rm -rf" hoax question

SvenIt turns out the the recent question regarding the misuse of rm -rf in Ansible was actually just a hoax in some kind of viral marketing effort. It become quite famous on various media and gathered a large number of views. Since I don't think we should allow ServerFault to be abused in such way...

A: What to do with the "rm -rf" hoax question

IainConsider Nuking the OP's account too. Anything less will just encourage other marketing stunts like this.

user315433
> A: Let's do this viral marketing stunt.
B: No way, they'll delete my account with 101 imaginary points!

Whether it's a hoax or not doesn't really encourage deletion or special action
it's still a valid scenario and question

The meta post has gotten 400 views in the past ~1 hour.

12:41 AM
And dupes don't really get deleted

A: What to do with the "rm -rf" hoax question

IainIt was closed as a dupe. Delete the hoax and keep the dupe. Consider merging the answers from the hoax into it. Remember SF is for practical problems you are trying to solve. A hoax by definition isn't this.

obviously it's a practical problem, or the original question this was closed as a dupe would would be deleted

Well yeah. But the "facts" are different, no --no-preserve-root, etc.
Woot! #htop works on newer builds of #BashOnWindows :) https://t.co/x087RMgXxO

@hichris123 it has the same effect for the most part

I'm not so sure you need to keep the question around though. It's already blown up... nearly 200k views.

1:30 AM
@JoeIngeno @Independent Good to see the independent publishes hoaxes.
I should spend all day calling out news outlets

@Quill this is very borked

> Mr Marsala wrote on a forum for server experts called Server Fault that he was now stuck after having accidentally run destructive code on his own computers. But far from advising them how to fix it, most experts informed him that he had just accidentally deleted the data of his company and its clients, and in so doing had probably destroyed his entire company with just one line of code.

I wonder why spammers don't get up early. I mean, if they are forced to work Saturdays, why don't their bosses force them to start early too?

user202362
3:18 AM
most of the spammers are self employed maybe

I don't think so. Who would work on Saturday if they were self-employed?

user202362
getting paid by the amount of spams per day?

Why not work longer then? Why restrict yourself to a 9-5 work day?

user202362
maybe the spammers have some self discipline

user202362
p.s. you need to ask the spammers themselves

The number of URL-only titles is on the rise. Of course blocking them would be useless; but this is something that could be hellbanned without losing anything of value. (Non-spam questions where the entire title is a URL are not desirable, either)

Hotdog with eggs ...
I might be hungry that I make that association

@RobertLongson: I disagree, because IMO "it" is a problem/issue on any SE site, it is not Drupal specific ... Try a similar scenario (with such MOD interventions) on any site, and you'll have the very same issue that the OPer cannot accept his/her own answer ... Also, whoever voted-to-close this question, IMO made a mistake in the reason for such vote ... — Pierre.Vriens 6 hours ago

Q: Can the program named "Community" be trusted as a moderator?

SuklI sometimes see this mod closing posts as duplicates.Even humans argue sometimes about whether a question is a duplicate or not,so how does this program have this authority? Are all the posts that are closed by it reviewed by actual moderators? I am just curious because AI can be scary sometimes!

We're into the 6-8 years timeframe. :P
@Marshmallow Looking at the ads on the right sidebar for Careers, only a few are decent. Not sure if that should make me think Careers isn't living up to its expectations... or that I would be horrified to see any other job board.

There were some ideas about giving additional review tasks based on tag badges... iirc they were shot down at CoGro team meeting, and probably rightly so.

I read a bunch of books, read a bunch of code, and wrote a bunch of code. Then took just enough school to get a job. Not too impressive on a CV, but I still consider it a much more efficient way to learn.

Associate's degree, I suppose. Another thing not often seen in job ads on SO.
