I applied to a senior javascript developer position some time ago, and they want to see me for an interview this wednesday. they said they'd send me a test last week which I had to complete before the interview.
the first test they sent me was a test for dotNET developers. I don't actually know much about dotNET so I asked if they made a mistake. Apparently they didn't and really wanted me to make that test. I asked if they didn't have any test for Javascript instead and they said "well we have one but it's for senior developers really" (which was really the position I applied for anyway) a…

I'm really not sure what to do with this right now...

@PraxisAshelin Considering the time constraint, I don't think there is anything you can do to pass that test. Just tell them your scenario, if you still think that company has serious HR guys working there and if they have, they'll extend your time

I personally think you must try to solve the test as much as possible.

And also tell them the scenario.

I think they can judge you according to the time you got to solve the test and the no. of questions you solved. Or maybe they will extend the time and re-take the test.

I did ask them just now how much time they usually give the applicant for the test, and they replied "Should be doable in 2 hours according to person x"
Now, this does sound like a bit of an exaggaration to me, but maybe doable with a stretch if you've used the exact technology before and already built a similar application before

but I haven't worked with the technology before and would have to learn it first

I feel like maybe I'm just not the profile they're looking for, seeing as they want a senior developer (so someone with more experience). But then again, what if I'm wrong and I would fit after all?

I still do have a job interview with them after all

hmm...then you can attempt the test, send them your results, and go for interview. I still highly doubt, that if their time estimate is 2 hours and yours is in days, you are the profile they are looking for

my cv doesn't list the technologies that are required for the test, meaning they should know that I'm not experienced with them and would have to learn them. So why would they still ask me for an interview?

did they perhaps want me for the junior dotNET position?
I do have VB.Net on my cv but that's basic middleschool knowledge (as I explained to them after they sent me that first test)

is VB.Net even the same as dotNET?

@PraxisAshelin .NET is a framework; VB.NET, C#, F#, etc. are languages which can be used with the .NET framework.
