Q: some praise for the developers

illicitI have been testing the alpha iOS Stack Exchange app for about a week now, and I love it! You guys did an amazing job, which is not surprising considering the massive amounts of knowledgeable people who use this site. Nice work fellas.

Is this... a question?

Doesn't need to be on meta, but there's something majorly weird going on with revisions there.

Yeah, that's my point. It's a pair. On SF as well it seems. Posting a semi legit question (if off topic) and then a spam answer

@Bart should we be flagging answers as spam and questions as VLQ?

Given the pairing I went with spam flags on the questions as well. NOt sure if that is going to work.

Other reason: "I am Bart, appove it".

That's the description for most of my "other" flags.
Crap ... just got deleted. No spam deletion.

Q: What should we do with "MySQL reserved keywords" questions?

Amal MuraliOn Stack Overflow, there are a lot of questions where use reserved keywords as identifiers such as table and column names. "Why can't I use certain variable names in MySQL?" @AmalMurali ?

That looks good. But they're not really variables. They're identifiers, no?

Pff, what am I? A programmer? ... wait ...

8:18 AM
hehe
> Certain words such as SELECT, DELETE, or BIGINT are reserved and require special treatment for use as identifiers such as table and column names. This may also be true for the names of built-in functions.

yeah, so s/variable/identifier
But in any case something nice and broad like that which is also easy to remember if you have to look for it.

I'm not sure most people would find it that way.
Yeah, so how about something like "Reference: Why can't I use certain table/column names in MySQL?"

I wouldn't preface it with the "reference:" bit. But other than that I'd say it sounds appropriate

Oops.... wrong link.
You should perform some unit testing to isolate at which layer of your application your problem is located. You may completely solve your problem while doing this. However, if at the end of the testing process you still have a problem, then it is much more likely to be a fit for Stack Overflow than this long, multi-layered question you have here. — Louis 1 min ago
And a close vote.

I managed to fumble my actions on that question multiple times. :-(

I will be more careful next time... I hope...sorry

Btw, I initially voted-to-close the same as you guys did but then I retracted my vote.
I think that question is not a duplicate of the one currently pointed to.
The OP here is asking how to overcome the limit.
The other question is asking why the limit.

1:35 PM
I read that he tries to answer a question by leaving a comment...
????

Well, the OP is stating " But when I found outer people's question topics I knew the answer but I couldn't comment on it" and asking "How do I get more rep if I don't have any more questions to ask?"
So, yeah telling the op not to put an answer in a comment is warranted.

OK, so I confused a statement with a question. Or I'm just bad in reading...
Do we need to leave a new comment to get some clarification, give some guidance?

I guess a comment that singles out that part of the question "You say you'd like to put a comment when you know the answer. You know you..." might be helpful.
And if the OP is not happy with the closure as duplicate, he can say something in a comment.

Ok, I edited the question to get the question and statement clear
@Louis sound fine to me
Are you leaving that comment or should I try to fix the relationship with that OP @Louis

@rene Oh, I thought you'd leave that comment. I did not want to usurp your contribution. :)

1:46 PM
:-)
I'm on it then

It just occurred to me the OP might have been talking about "answers" like "You've got a typo here." which is not really an "answer".
Or not the kind of answer we like to promote.

@LaszloPapp: The point is to inform the OP that he has missed fundamentals at school and should resume his education, because we are not here to provide a general computing education. A bit of research or Googling wouldn't hurt, either. Now, smart-arse, your turn: what is the point of your comment? — Lightness Races in Orbit 2 mins ago
"smart-arse" -> what a tone ...

@Mat On the other hand, not commenting on it might give the mistaken impression that such comments are all fine and dandy. "That user left a rude comment and nobody did a thing about it". Visibly that is.

3:46 PM
@Mat: I really hope he will change, yes, if community members tell it to him. Without trying, there is no expected result. It is also an indication to the community that you should not leave such comments because they will be questioned.
I do not think the question deserves 8 downvotes either
he clearly tried a lot of things, but he did not get the idea of floating point.

so he did have some effort, much more than the average user.

@TGMCians Or other this is something only your university can fix?

Many people will take it as offense to get that as the second comment for a honest question after some effort shown to understand the issue, like "go back to school" which is literally what you wrote. This is not productive, nor helping anymore, nor friendly... it is simple worse than an unexplained downvote. I have seen this several times. Please refrain from this in the future if I may ask you. — Laszlo Papp 1 min ago

Don't make me refer to you as "children" and suggest that you take it to Meta @LaszloPapp ;)

@rene "I want load this site too my App for sign in user into site but no load into mobile and show some massage" When he is trying to do in app but didn't share the exact message what he is getting, yes only university can fix it as he said "Golestan system does not work properly on your browser. Please use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 or upper"

Let's just take it anywhere except in those comments @LaszloPapp. It's not going anywhere and there will be a bunch of crap to nuke.

@Bart: I do not think it would go anywhere on meta either.
it is kind of funny that this user accussed H2CO3 with being snarky.

True, but there you would be duking it out for all of us where we watch with popcorn and think "that's a mighty spectacle". In the comments you're duking it out in front of a new user who by now will think "holy crap, what did I stumble into?"

based on the comment upvotes, people even support his tone more than my warning.

I've got something in the works that will allow closing of duplicates much faster, which will curtail this to a degree. Yes, we want people answering questions, but we also want to encourage people to research and search first. If users with a lot of experience in a tag can quickly close duplicates, these won't stay open long enough for the usual semi-crappy 6 word answer. We've gotta overhaul how duplicates are displayed, too, but we're hoping to have some changes out next week. — Tim Post ♦ 4 mins ago

(But that's just a guess, I have no knowledge of that domain and find nothing wrong with your answer.)

the flags are obsolete I think.
"unclear" and "lacks sufficient information". In this case, the OP updated the question and it is all clear and reproducable.
there is no such a close reason as "too simple".
if it is really too simple and this question was asked before, duplicate would be OK, but I do not see any duplicate flags, either.

@ProgramFOX You can flag it if you have a valid reason, mod will see it, if it is helpful then they can revoke a bounty,
