Midnight. It's closing time.

I am concerned. A lot of those questions haven't attracted any new close votes since I checked this morning (about ten hours ago).

Hmm...

Time for a frivolous edit.

Are s ever ?

The one is, I see.

I was actually going to offer to start a bounty, since I have more meta rep than I know what to do with. It's worth noting that using bounties to attract cleanup posses has proved ineffective in the past, though.
Moot now that you've done it yourself, though.

Anonymous
I want to reward closers with bounty rep, but there doesn't seem to be a practical way to do that.

If there were a public vote-to-close record, I could scrape that and award it based on that.

Anyone here?
braces for sarcastic "no"s and humorous replies

I'm curious what your actual question/motivation here is

5:43 AM
@jcolebrand Just have a cool story that happened today.
I was at the Apple Store, getting this looked at and the genius basically told me that he couldn't help me.
I know that they have carte blanche to make customers happy. But I didn't really push to much.
Cool story after the break.

The severity and sarcasm in the answers to this feature request are a bit...excessive. Gee whiz.

@jadarnel27 Wow, yeah
And a close vote as "too localized"? Really?
@Moshe Just how long, exactly, is the "break" before your cool story? :p

7:17 PM
Can someone please tell me if new users (with rep 1) can post questions in the meta section of a beta SE site?

Anonymous
@Szabolcs No. :( You need 5.

Oh :-( I wanted to post an annoucement about the new mathematica.stackexchange.com I wanted to tell people to ask question (they will have questions about the site) on meta.mathematica, and not on the mailing list (the mailing list is moderated...). Apparently I can't do this.

> @NullUserExceptionอ_อ: That won't work. You can't reply to yourself. - Robert Harvey
@NullUserExceptionอ_อ Yes, you can

7:34 PM
@Chris Indeed, it just seemed a little harsh. Everyone has a bad day I guess. The close vote is a bit random.

Still, I think that Robert Harvey's feature request is better:

Q: Allow me to marry text to a onebox in chat

Robert HarveyCurrently, oneboxing requires that the URL be the only thing in a chat message. If additional text is added with the url in the same chat message, oneboxing won't work. If other people are chatting, they can break in and divorce the onebox from the descriptive text: Please fix chat in some w...

I fully agree =)

Q: is selena gomez pregnant with justin bieber

georgiaIt is proven that selena is not pregnant and it was all a rumor that started on twitter. so all u fans of justin bieber dont get worried selena isnt pregnant and they arent going out they went out for a bit then broke up because of all the fans. noow jbs motto is single and ready to mingle.

@Chris Ah, so I saw an employee there who I used to chat with and he was able to replace the cable. Even though Genius Bar said no.

How anticlimactic!

@Chris Yea, well, it seemed a lot cooler last night. Also, there was a prayer involved.

Anonymous
I've had them replace my cable a few times. I get the impression that Apple has told them to replace generously, because they know they're breakable crap, but they still need to act like they're doing me a favour and so customers don't think it's regular thing.

@Cleanupcareerdevelopment I got a straight up no. It's also about who you know.

7:58 PM
@Moshe Oh... huh. Maybe they're more friendly in Canada.

@Moshe Wait a minute. . .how did you reply without using @JeremyBanks?

Anonymous
@Chris Have you had chat open for more than a day?

Anonymous
I renamed, but maybe you can't see it.

@Cleanupcareerdevelopment Yeah...
Oh
That's unintuitive
Maybe I'll make a Meta post about it

@Cleanupcareerdevelopment Well, who is pregnant with Justin Bieber? And when is Mr. Bieber expected to be born?

8:00 PM
I can't be the only one who leaves a chat window open as long as his browser

@PopularDemand There's no Stack for that. :(

> well u need to wait a lil , probably there will be one DNA test, so u'll know if it is true or not, i was kind surprised when i read , looking forward toit

@Cleanupcareerdevelopment Au contraire: English Language and Usage SE seems like the right spot.

@PopularDemand Ah, true.

8:07 PM
@Chris FWIW, I have "update user data once in a while" in the back of my head
It doesn't exist because I really don't think people should have the room open for days. When you're asleep, you shouldn't claim to be in the room
That's how I feel, anyway

looks around shiftily
I guess it's OK, because I don't sleep.

maybe we should add the G+ Hangout "Are you still there?" feature to the chat
With a captcha, of course. Otherwise @TimStone would just write a user script...

@balpha But doesn't your avatar drop off the list of icons when you've been away for a while?

@balpha What do you mean, "otherwise"?

I just find it more convenient to leave chat open in an App Tab in Firefox than open and close it every day

8:09 PM
@Chris sure, but you're not away when you have the chat room open

Define "away"

Not in the room.

Anonymous
@balpha Does having the tab/window inactive (according to whatever that new API is) count?

@Chris I'm of the old-fashioned variety that turn their computer off at night

@balpha Oh my god
I think I reboot my computer once a month
It's a laptop, but still
I think I reboot my browser once a week

8:10 PM
@Cleanupcareerdevelopment define "inactive"

My computer has been on and online for 31 days. |:

@balpha You know, I wouldn't mind if chat automatically logged me out for being inactive for, say, eight hours
I'll just refresh my App Tab and be on my way
I'm certainly not trying to be disingenuous by staying in the room

Anonymous
@balpha I was thinking of the page visibility API. (Took a minute Googling to find a link, I couldn't remember what it was called.)

@Cleanupcareerdevelopment that would mean we'd consider you gone just because you're playing farmville in another tab. That doesn't really feel right either
and you can also still have the tab on top and be asleep anyway

Out of curiosity, what problem is that solving..?

8:17 PM
what now?

@balpha "you gone just because you're playing farmville" sounds like an excellent new network-wide policy.

what what?
@PopularDemand Or Words with Friends?

@TimStone what problem is what solving?

@TimStone I don't know what you're talking about.

This hypothetical "you aren't here" functionality.
Ah, if only I could play acronyms...API isn't a valid word. :(

8:20 PM
@TimStone To ensure that you aren't lying about being in the room?
I wasn't sure either

(Which is also the conclusion that any outside observer would draw after looking at the final score of any of our games.)

@TimStone if you're talking about this:
13 mins ago, by balpha
maybe we should add the G+ Hangout "Are you still there?" feature to the chat
that was a joke

I was thinking of this:

It doesn't exist because I really don't think people should have the room open for days. When you're asleep, you shouldn't claim to be in the room

Ahhh...I think I need a picture of something flying right over my head now :P

@Chris my message before that and the one after that add some context to that...
I was just giving the reason why user data isn't updated

8:23 PM
Ah, okay

and that changing this is something I'll do at some point

The "shouldn't" threw me a bit

@TimStone I was going to whip something up, but Google Images gave me a better option:

@balpha Understood, thanks :)

...What the.

8:26 PM

Ahahahah
(the first image that actually has any relation to me in the results for "Tim Stone")
Also, what's with all of these people with "Enable Experimental JavaScript" turned on? What does that flag even do? Hmm..
Ah, it enables ES Harmony features.

Q: Moving instead of closing

PatrickThis question does make sense, it should have been moved to tex.stackexchange.com. I am pretty sure the OP would have gotten a good answer there.

I'm all for a bit of elitism but isn't that a bit too elitist?

9:24 PM
Note: I'm referring to the comments. I agree with Pekka.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel. On one hand, we shouldn't let Stack Exchange sites accept crap just because they want to have content, but on the other hand I don't want to make an assumption that the question is crap because I don't know the problem domain, so who am I to judge over someone who clearly does (the Meta OP)? I certainly think that the OP could have put in some more information about how exactly things weren't going as expected, but beyond that.. shrugs

I think this comment from Anthony Pegram makes a good point about that "At any rate, a comment has been present on the question for days suggesting an alternate site."

9:43 PM
Hahaha, oh that Pekka guy

Q: A more "meta" logo?

Gabriel CuvillierI think that the Meta logo does not reflect its "meta" nature. What about something like that instead: Or Or any other ideas? EDIT: or, as suggested by random, something more ouroboros such as:

I just had some fun with a phone scammer.

11:43 PM
@Cleanupcareerdevelopment Oh good grief. That bounty on the Formatting Sandbox is epic!

@mootinator You know, being that it's not a given that the phone scammer was on the other end of line (you could have been sitting next to them while they were scamming someone else) I'm wondering what you did.

@jadarnel27 :P Credit to Rob W for showing us what's possible .

@Cleanupcareerdevelopment Hahaha, how did I miss that! Awesome.

@Moshe I pretended to not know how to use my computer.
"It keeps saying Internet Explorer cannot display the page."
So he suggests going to google to troubleshoot my internet connection.
"OH! I know Google! So, I just enter that webpage here?"
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! trololol

Hah
@mootinator Better: Excuse me mister telemarketer. I've DDOSed your webpage. May I hang up now?
Noe nobody can suffer from it.

11:57 PM
Of course, I knew the whole time 99% of the results would have "scam" attached to them hehe.
That was the fun in pretending to accidentally enter it into Google.

lol

@mootinator Fan...tastic. Well done =)
