@RebeccaChernoff done, I've split it into two posts. Now could you remove Michael's comment (since it doesn't belong here anymore), and maybe remove the design part from eBusiness' answer?

Hi, Anybody can confirm that am I only one who seeing 2 favorite tabs on Meta SE user profiles?
eg., http://meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/users/61/cbrulak?tab=stats

@RebeccaChernoff erm... not the design part, the name part

@SMark It's just you. Or, at least, it's not me.

@SMark You mean one on the bottom, one on the top?

Yes
you see that too?

4:07 PM
Yeah, that's intentional.

Hum, really

I don't know why it's intentional, but it's intentional.
What'll really annoy you is if you click the top Reputation tab, since it opens the bottom reputation tab, but stays on the Info tab at the top. :P

rolled back because splitting caused too much confusion. though feel free to do it yourself if you want, rchern

Imm, I don't get it :D
and why only meta SE?
others looks fine

@TimStone Wait, what? How long have those tabs on top been there?

4:10 PM
8 hours.

@TimStone Yeah, I just realized it was recent while you were writing that.
Madness, or something.

But you should see them on all non-meta sites, and MSO.
God, I am way too not awake to be writing things, sorry.

@TimStone Yeah, shouldn't you be in bed for another three hours?

no problem @Tim, heheh

Anyway, you see an extra Favorites tab on all sites, and extra Favorites and Reputation tabs on all non-Meta sites.
(since there's no reputation on meta sites, so no reputation tab to make redundant)

4:15 PM
ummm, disagree

....Dammit
Fine, there's no redundant reputation tab on metas

I think I know what you mean @TimStone

For no particular reason

I meant about all of it, but will explain in a bit. Sorry.
I don't see duplicated tabs.

Flag weight is pretty new correct?

4:16 PM
@msarchet Yes

@RebeccaChernoff The two favourite tab on both top and bottom tab bars?

Well, about two weeks new anyway.

@TimStone yea, I was just like what this! and then when I saw the default was a 100 I was pondering if I was just bad at flagging (I have a 105) just seems I haven't flagged much recently.

double-checks to make sure he connected the dots correctly
Whew. I did. I'm awake enough for that, hooray.

How did my profile get involved in this?

4:19 PM
hum, I see, responses on upper part instead of reputation

@TimStone It's cool. It'd just look like Mrozek screwed up.

@SMark Only on your own profile.

ah
heheh

@PopularDemand True, true. I was covered all along, good to know.

Dunno why they won't let us see everyone else's responses; I mean, you can already get it through the API, right?

4:20 PM
@MichaelMrozek You were within convenient clicking distance.
@msarchet Well, being above 100 is a plus at any rate. :D

This is... very weird. I'm currently experiencing a half second lag when switching to any php.net tabs. This doesn't happen even for js heavy sites like chat, or image heavy sites. What's so special about php.net?

@TimStone exactly just wanted to double check that it was new

@YiJiang Possibly, but that doesn't mean there's a good reason to make it convenient either. Plus it's not terribly relevant to other people I suppose. So instead other people get duplicate tabs. ;)
Oh good, my flag weight is making more efficient use of its decimal places now, heh.
@YiJiang O_o

@YiJiang It's probably based on PHP! instantrimshot.com
@TimStone What? How can flag weight have decimal places?

4:31 PM
What else are you people hiding from me?

A: What is flag weight?

Tim StoneWhat is flag weight? As explained in this answer, flag weight is a measure of how reliably you flag content. When your flags are positively reviewed (generally resulting in some sort of action), your flag weight increases by 10 points for flags on posts, and 5 points for flags on comments. Likew...

:P
(also 8 hours ago, apparently)

To the reviewmobile!

I started to, but then thought that reviewing while drowsy was a bad idea.

@TimStone Yes, you shouldn't drive unless you're alert.
One more zero-score accepted answer until Tenacious....
> could you please explain me pro-grammatically.
Sounds like something from English SE, not SO.

Yeah, he doesn't want any of them darn amateur linguists.

4:37 PM
Totally off topic, but I like it :)

Bill the Lizard keeps tripping me up on /review too, I go to flag something, and then find out he's already left a comment telling them to make something a new question..and then I don't know what to do.

@TimStone Yeah, I commented on that a few days ago. Basically that means it's already been addressed. The mods are instructed to leave comments instead of deleting and private-messaging users.

That's confusing. :/
Why am I flagging things if they aren't supposed to just auto-promote it to a new question?
I mean, I could tell the person to post a new question and save them the trouble, at that point. :P

@TimStone But you don't have a Diamond of Authority.

Indeed, no shiny, shiny diamond for me.

4:43 PM
@PopularDemand Yeah, but he has a big, big... rep.

@TimStone Sorry, it was mmyers, not Bill the Lizard. That conversation starts here.
NB:
Mar 1 at 19:28, by mmyers
Ah. We have been encouraged to leave comments as signposts rather than just deleting everything instantly, particularly on new posts.
Mar 1 at 19:31, by mmyers
We have also been gently encouraged to NOT USE THE MESSAGING SYSTEM UNLESS BABIES ARE BEING KILLED (Jeff's words, not mine).

Ah, yeah....I knew the second part, but the first part does still confuse me.

I should have asked whether they go back, like, a week later and delete stuff, or whether "signpost planted" is the final disposition.

I mean, even if they post a new question, what are the chances ...right.

Unfortunately, it's nigh-impossible to get the attention of any moderator-type person at Stack Exchange, especially in The Tavern. But that's just the world we live in.

4:46 PM
Heh ;)

hey! how come the stackoverflow.com data dump hasn't been updated? Its updated every month right?

Bi-monthly now.

oh! =( Wanted to know how close I am to Strunk and White =P

Sh*t like this is what pisses me off: bradg.net ... That article is down right wrong. He calls the patch I made wrong, and says the WP patch is correct. How is rolling your own random number generator better than using the well tested Mersenne Twister with strong seeding? It's a cheap shot. I stand behind my patch 100%, and if he'd bother to understand the reasoning at all, he'd actually realize that the implementation is far better than the home-rolled RNG...

@TimStone as in twice a month or every two month?

4:49 PM
@LoïcWolff Yeah, poor term choice, but every two months.

@TimStone @LoïcWolff I assume eevery two months.
?
Ah.

Yeah. I feel like there should be one coming out soon, but I forget what the schedule is now.

I see, no other way to query any data right?

There's always SEDE.
I think there's an updated, but still not fully reliable Strunk and White query on there somewhere. There's also some old ones that don't work anywhere close to correct, since the necessary information wasn't available when they were written.

yea but the queries query the data dump which was last updated feb 9
? right/

4:54 PM
so what should I know this AM from the land of SEI? (Is this what we're calling it now? SEI?)

@giddy Yeah, so the information is about a month old. SEDE is still updated monthly though, so there should be updates to the data soon.

@TimStone ah! oh oh ok! I thought SEDE == DataDump.
ok yea I now what the data dump is loL! Ok, so SEDE should be updated soon right? Since the last update was feb 9?

@TimStone I didn't think we were calling it SEDE anymore, just data.se

@giddy Probably, yeah. I don't think it's fully automated though, so it might take a little bit.
@drachenstern I dunno, I call it SEDE.

@TimStone ah Cool! Thanks Tim @drachenstern (SEDE).Length < (data.se).length

5:01 PM
@drachenstern I thought calling any SE-affiliated site "name.se" was discouraged.

@PopularDemand is it? :\

@PopularDemand Lest those damn Swedes hijack our links.

Also, you know MSO is meta.se right?

How long before things like this get reviewed?

Q: View pending flags

Myles GrayI would like to see a "my pending flags" page/section developed. At the minute we can flag questions etc and suggest what is wrong with them but there is no way of knowing whether the flags we have placed have been accepted/rejected. We therefore cannot tell (without looking at flag weight that...

@MylesGray just because a flag was reviewed doesn't mean action was taken.

5:02 PM
@giddy No problem.

@MylesGray I think if your flag is accepted you get a +10 in your flag weight.

@MylesGray Hmm, someone just asked that same question. I wonder if theirs was closed as a duplicate yet..

@drachenstern I mean the actual question

5:03 PM
@MylesGray what do you mean by the actual Question?

@giddy Like that MSO question was asked what 4/5 days ago, yet no answers or indications whether the query is being reviewed or anything?

Q: Is there a way to see flag weight update history?

EimantasI believe flag weight is really awesome feature of user profile. Also I wanted to ask if there is a way to see the history of flag weight value (just like reputation)? I believe this would be really important in knowing which flaggings reduced the weight and which ones didn't.

A: Providing fake info during domain registration - does it matter?

Anyone?

@TimStone skype? or are you asleep still?
@PopularDemand HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHALMAO

What's a "raw file system"?

5:13 PM
native blocks
Raw bit access to the hdd. No concept of files or folders

Either I'm misunderstanding that term or someone's using it incorrectly, but I'm not sure which.

@PopularDemand using it incorrectly.
there is no such thing as a "raw file system" ... there's either "raw bits" or "file system"
unless they mean something centered around raw images for cameras, which I doubt. highly.
somebody mind helping me figure out what I'm missing?

@drachenstern maybe use the style property/CSS instead?

@badpssockpuppet but it's applying the webkit style ...
@badpssockpuppet I added style='text-align:center;' and it works, so now I'm not sure to be pissed or to wonder if I found a bug in webkit (which would be highly unlikely but plausible ~ this may be an edge case

5:29 PM
@drachenstern I'd try to understand what's the difference between text-align:center and text-align:-webkit-center first :)
(No, I don't know)

@badpssockpuppet yeah, one's a general rule, and one's browser specific. That's all the diff I know
I would love to be more informed

@PopularDemand where's it being used?

Q: How can I get data off of the one corrupt partition of my HDD?

metal gear solidOne partition of my HDD has become unreadable, and I'm being told my file system is RAW. The partition contains valuable data. How can I get it working again, so I can get at the data safely? The HDD has two other partitions, which are working fine, and is using NTFS. The OS is Windows XP 32-bit.

No one knows the meta reviewing policy for questions then?

hrm

5:32 PM
@badpssockpuppet I found my problem. I've got a four layer specific CSS rule that trumps my miserable little td[align=center] rule
@MylesGray what are you asking? I'm still way confused

@MylesGray What drachenstern said.

You want to know when a flag will be cleared by?

On meta, what determines when a question/bug is reported, like who will review feature-requests on meta etc

There's no guarantee. We mods have a policy of letting some flags sit for weeks or more, for visibility. I've got one on dba that I set almost a month ago (whenever I became pro-tem) that hasn't been cleared yet.
@MylesGray Talk to @RebeccaChernoff

@drachenstern Okay will do
@RebeccaChernoff How long does it take for a question/bug on stack overflow to be reviewed and/or answered?

5:36 PM
@PopularDemand: googling shows it's a valid partition type in Windows. It looks like it calls anything where it can't detect a valid filesystem raw

@MylesGray it depends what kind of bug it is, when I reported an XSS hole with the chat, it was fixed in 30 minutes

@ircmaxell Yeah, I figured that out after I asked here, which is how I decided on the wording for that edit.

fair enough
@MylesGray Is it a security bug? If so, likely minutes until someone picks it up. If not, I've seen anywhere from 5 minutes to a day or two depending on how interested people are in fixing it

@ircmaxell It's not a bug, it is a feature request

Ah, there we go, I now have flag weight fractional points as well.

5:38 PM
Oh sorry. Well, a FR could be days or months or never, so who knows

@MylesGray just post it, people will discuss it and eventually it might get implemented

@HoLyVieR I posted it 5 days ago, it has 16 upvotes but NO answers

Um, there's nothing like "guaranteed response time in 3 business days"
(;

This is probably not the oldest open FR, but it's pretty old, and highly upvoted, and yet still has no red tag:

Q: Avoid the Streisand Effect - be clear about the reason when suspending an account

Shog9This sort of thing has happened a few times now... "Hey, did you see? User X was boxed!" "User X? Why?" "I donno... Maybe he... " (wild speculation ensues. waffles are blamed.) It's generally quite easy to notice when a user gets thrown in The Penalty Box. You see the tell-tale 1 when...

Q: "You have gained power. Here's how to use it." kind of message.

balphaRight now, crossing one of the magical rep borders happens more or less unnoticed. People just gain the particular powers. Now, of course they have eagerly been awaiting this moment, and want to start using their new powers instantly. However, this leads to people---usually with good intentions-...

@balpha Well, that's a special case; they were going to implement it until Jeff noticed who suggested it.

@MylesGray aye, and I think a dupe.

@ircmaxell that would be what I said btw

@RebeccaChernoff I checked, no dupes

5:44 PM
@PopularDemand Is that what he told you here:

something similar but not the same

@balpha Dang, I wasn't supposed to reveal that I was one of the ones with access to SMSO.
(But yes, that is the screenshot I was thinking of when I said that.)

@MylesGray so has a tendency to do that to a person

@balpha @RebeccaChernoff Do you know what happenned with the test subdomain test.stackexchange.com and foobar.stackexchange.com

@drachenstern Cool

5:49 PM
@HoLyVieR didn't even know they existed

raw just means it's not being handled by a driver. You don't use a raw disk. Ever. As attested in the question, windows won't let you.

@TimStone wake up.

@badpssockpuppet what does that give you?

@balpha A couple of people on the chat found them a while back and now they just disappeared. Probably because someone realise there was people asking dumb question on them.

@ircmaxell Man, that's a lot of BS

@ircmaxell but is that a filesystem or a block device?

5:52 PM
@mmyers And, lo and behold, you appeared in the mirror!

@HoLyVieR I would really like to know what the sites looked like, what the questions were, etc.
@mmyers but you're not beetlejuice

@YiJiang They already do, but it seems it's only for mods right now. Unless I just caught them between builds.

@drachenstern Well, you didn't expect whatever that was at the start of a disk to be in plain text now did you?
What did you expect? JSON? :)

@badpssockpuppet no, I figured you would at least skip a few hundred blocks down
@badpssockpuppet please :D

@badpssockpuppet Yeah, the more BS, the faster it tends to run. Kind of like life...

Does SEDE automatically exclude deleted posts?

Yes.
They're not included in the data dumps, so it really can't do it any other way.

@mmyers Ah, of course.

6:19 PM
@PopularDemand Never!

@ircmaxell that was a trick question. I already knew the answer. You can't use a block device as a filesystem. They are two different things. Yes, you can write to a filesystem like you would a block device, to some extent (if we equate partition to mean filesystem) but you can't read/write a block device like you would a filesystem.

@ircmaxell like you would a file not a filesystem

right

oh I forgot to share my story for the morning. This was cute.

Oh?

Man, how long is this story?

6:41 PM
My sister-n-law calls me and says "don't I have Windows on my computer" so I'm already thinking ... wtf ... "I mean I have xp right" oO? and I'm all "well what does it say when you boot up." and she's "idk, I'm trying to setup netflix and the screen says I need IE or Firefox on my Windows computer and I'm on my playstation 3 and it won't let me watch them. It says I need to upgrade my computer's internet browser" ... I'm sure there's a moral in this story somewhere that we should take to heart

LOL

Naturally I got her to the XBM and the network and installed the Netflix app.
I was doing all I could to not laugh at her

@drachenstern What? But she is using Firefox! Or, at least, Mozilla 5.0.
How do you reach >4k rep with one account and >3k with another and not realize that you have a duplicate account?

6:56 PM
@PopularDemand I was not aware of that.
@PopularDemand that's ... not impossible?
somebody tripped the odometer. In a private room.

@PopularDemand Did most of their rep come from questions? :P

@TimStone It's like you know what I've been doing for the past few minutes.

It was most likely a guess. I would've guessed the same thing

A: Should we cap reputation gained from questions at +2000?

Popular DemandMy first thought, which I do not yet have data to support, is that a better solution might be to cap reputation earned from awarding the accepted answer checkmark. Right now, you can get +2 for each question you ask by doing that, regardless of whether your questions are good or not. In theory, ...

I'm trying to write a SEDE query to get data for that answer.

Q: Which is better: identity columns or generated uinique id values?

kacalapyI am in middle of a debate about whether it is better to use identity columns as a primary key on a DB table or have a generated value manually created. I am arguing for the sql managed identity column because there will be no contention created and keep overhead down. My partner is arguing for...

Now I have a new problem to solve :\

It's slow going since I never use SQL except for this.
@drachenstern I wasn't replying to you.

reparsing

@drachenstern No problem.

what are you having issues with on the SQL?

7:03 PM
@PopularDemand I think we may be on a related train of thought.

Figuring out how to remove self-accepts from the equation without inflating the total count.
The third draft works fine except that it does count self-accepts.
The fourth (current) draft runs now, but it produces numbers roughly three times too high.

Woah, that first user's reputation graph is all sorts of crazy.

@TimStone Wow.

Quite the bounty-giving spree, heh.

how does it go to -6000 tho?
@PopularDemand how do you know that it is a self-accept?

7:07 PM
@drachenstern If the same user owns both the question and the answer.

where q.OwnerUserId = p.OwnerUserId
that line?

Oh, somehow I didn't notice that the graph was super negative.

@drachenstern Yeah, I'm using something pretty similar.

how did you not?
@PopularDemand so just where q.owneruserid <> p.owneruserid and see what that does

7:09 PM
@drachenstern The rep graph doesn't care about the 1-rep floor. It goes on as if downvotes to 1-rep users did hurt.

ahhh

@drachenstern It gives me the incorrect inflated number, as I said earlier; I'm not sure what part is confusing, I guess.

@PopularDemand Yeah, but this user lost their reps from a lot of bounties, probably with reps they didn't actually have?

@PopularDemand I thought you said you weren't getting that excluded

@TimStone Hm, not sure in this particular case.

7:11 PM
(for example)

@drachenstern I have a version of the query that works, but doesn't account for self-accepts giving 0 rep. (That is, it incorrectly treats them as giving +2 rep.)
I have another version of the query where I'm trying to remove self-accepts using the method you suggested, but it makes the final answer wildly inaccurate.
Probably because it uses an inner join, and that causes some rows to be counted multiple times?

WHERE quest.OwnerUserId != ans.OwnerUserId AND
      quest.AcceptedAnswerId = ans.Id AND
      quest.AcceptedAnswerId IS NOT NULL AND -- Has accepted answer
      quest.OwnerUserId IS NOT NULL AND -- Asker is not deleted user
      quest.CommunityOwnedDate IS NULL -- Not CW
@PopularDemand if you think that is the case then run a distinct
but it should not be the case

Oh, I forgot about that keyword. To the... whatever resource people use for T-SQL syntax!

DISTINCT
and MSDN

7:15 PM
@balpha how is that not news?

@drachenstern Hmm, but it looks like that's only for SELECT statements?

@PopularDemand were you doing something other than a SELECT here?
SELECT quest.OwnerUserId AS [User Link],
       COUNT(*)*2 AS "Rep from +2s"
FROM Posts quest
INNER JOIN Posts ans ON ans.ParentId = quest.Id
WHERE quest.OwnerUserId != ans.OwnerUserId AND
      quest.AcceptedAnswerId = ans.Id AND
      quest.AcceptedAnswerId IS NOT NULL AND -- Has accepted answer
      quest.OwnerUserId IS NOT NULL AND -- Asker is not deleted user
      quest.CommunityOwnedDate IS NULL -- Not CW
GROUP BY quest.OwnerUserId
HAVING COUNT(*) > 400
ORDER BY COUNT(*) DESC
looks like a SELECT to me.

Yeah, but the thing I'm selecting is not the thing that needs to be distinct.

It is a query hint so to speak, it's not specific to one part of the query. for that you either need to use a CTE or a temptable
besides, you would see the same post multiple times if it were duplicated, because of the group by
I just thought about that. It's not duplicating anything.
and now I feel the urge to go and flag some as duplicates ... /facepalm
I'm going to leave that alone for now

@PopularDemand Oh no!

@drachenstern Well, there is some error. It's reporting that user ooo has earned 5846 rep from accepting answers alone, which is mathematically impossible since that user has only asked 1105 questions.

@PopularDemand did you try it with my update?

@drachenstern Not seeing what you updated...?

@PopularDemand :560077

@drachenstern Oh, I didn't even see that you'd slipped an extra line in there.

@PopularDemand was still validating it

No rows returned.

I still don't think it's quite right
but it's not triple inflated anymore

wow, that makes me feel bad... I only have +10 from question accepts

@ircmaxell That should make you feel good. I was trying to figure out whether/how many people were gaming the system by earning a whole bunch of rep through asking poor-quality questions.

@PopularDemand Ahh. Yeah, my % of rep from questions is less than 5% I think...

7:55 PM
@PopularDemand did you make any further headway?

@drachenstern No, I tried a little, made no progress, and figured it was close enough.

I see your latest one data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/s/1084/… and it's looking pretty close. Anyways, we don't have all the info, so we can only guesstimate.

@drachenstern Well... we do. But I'm not going to count that guy's accepted answers by hand.

ok I'll go with that. But you can always verify it on a lower user and trust that the math doesn't change (isn't that how a rigorous proof works in math?)
find someone with questions ~= 20 and do it for their UUID

@drachenstern Yes. Yes, I could always do that.

7:59 PM
@PopularDemand I see you're going to put in as much effort as I do, as I leave for lunch
Having said that, I'll see youse guys (and gals) in about an hours or sos

Note: You have to have chat sound set to something other than "none". Works best in Chrome, Safari, and IE9; works okay in Firefox and Opera; doesn't work in IE8-.

Oh, she's leaving? :o That was epic, hahah.

@balpha hah, I see why you're sharing that with us, you don't have quite enough people on your employee chat :P
just kidding. That's awesome. As usual.

Careful, that song is deadly addicting.

Oh! I see you took care of that.

@RebeccaChernoff I was surprised at how long it went on :P

Doing QA for someone who isn't here is booring.

@badpssockpuppet the official presentation only needed four fill-in unicorns :)

By the way have SO Careers invites been given out already or..?

Did someone just make Unsung Hero easier or ?

@mootinator Or what? Looks like no.

When I'm calling a helpdesk and they say "we're recording this for the purposes of quality assurance," I say "so am I." Hilarity ensures.

8:37 PM
I don't remember having any 0 score accepted answers lately, that's all.
I guess I probably did then.

@mootinator There's a ten-day waiting period.

@balpha I do this all the time, heh.

@balpha I don't think I've ever heard a person say "we're recording this for the purposes of quality assurance."

@PopularDemand seriously? German call centers aren't as bad as their american cliché, and I hear that all the time

@balpha Oh, I hear it all the time, too. But it's always a recording; there's nobody there to listen to me say "so am I."

8:40 PM
well, they're recording :)

@balpha Even if they do start recording before the part of the call where a human picks up, how would hilarity ensue? The recording device can't reply to me.

@TimStone: and @TimPost: @mootinator: Hi,:)

@SankarGanesh Hello

Tangent: I have always wondered how to record a phone call. I'm sure call centers have fancy technology for automating it, but that wouldn't work at home.

@mootinator How do u do

8:43 PM
@PopularDemand Stop making sense. That's not you.

@balpha Hurtful!

@mootinator: Any idea on this Question
