@TheRenamedException yup, and I'm already late to leave, had to talk to the owner about my work priorities for this week since my direct report isn't here :\ my wife is gonna be just thrilled that I'm not there yet :(
Try to be online later if anyone needs me (yeah right)
note that if you want this to work reliably in IE8, you'll have to check the localStorage in a setTimeout callback started from the event handler, not in the handler itself
don't ask
then again, I don't know if there's anything greasmonkey-like in IE
Yeah I don't know either, for now I'm just targeting Chrome
Actually, I will switch to checking localStorage later, I want to get some icons up and post a screenshot and the code, then I will fix the one-window bug
That way people can start helping me test :-)
and I know @Nyuszika7H has been waiting patiently for this
I absolutely love chat and want to extend a huge thanks and token of appreciation, respect and awe-of-coding skill to Balpha, Marc Gravell, and the rest of the team who built it (sorry I don't know the names of everyone who was involved!!)
I look forward to seeing chat launch on StackOverflow, a...
@Moshe Then you might want to say so in the @ message. Asking if they're around is a definite "no" :-)
OK I need to rewrite this status code, sadly, since it looks like chat tries to clean away my added CSS properties, and new users entering the room foul things up.
Thanks a lot @MichaelPetrotta! My beautiful chat statuses, all messed up because you entered the room!
@The: Yeah, I get that, but if I'm AFK, it's often because someone's come by, I've got a phone call, etc., and I don't want to take the time to set a status. That's just me, though.
@MichaelPetrotta I mean the faded icons are 90% of the way there. I can tell that @badp has simply gone AFK and left chat open, for example. I don't expect a response to this message from him
But for someone like me who's in here all day long, I would find it useful. But it'll be a userscript, optional to use :-)
created a private object inside my closure, which also means I can create public methods to query people's statuses
@MichaelPetrotta oh, you didn't really, I knew this would be an issue -- my script currently adds a colored border around everyone's gravatar in the top right -- green for available, orange for busy, red for away or gray for unknown. When you entered, your gravatar had no border
