Stack Overflow has been wildly successful. And maybe in some ways too successful.
I am concerned that Stack Overflow is being inundated by a stream of low-quality questions from users who are accidentally poisoning our well -- by turning off and turning away the core answerers who do all the rea...
@drachenstern Thanks! but not exactly, since this is not a product recommendation per-se, it is not as localized. I' take a look at your second one now.
@drachenstern yes, it's strange, because he actually ask for something specific, a jquery slider with image captions on the arrows. I don't think this kind of question hurts the site but it's vaguely a programming related question, very very close to a LMGTFY / RTFM question.
Stack Overflow users with more than 2k reps can also help out here - rel="nofollow" is disabled for user profiles of users with more than 2k reputations
I thought I had a good solution before, ... shaving 30 characters is NICE :D
using System;class D{static void Main(){string a="s",z="",w=" on the wall",q=", ",p=".\n",b=" bottle",c=" of beer";for(int O=99;O>=1;)Console.WriteLine(O+b+(O>1?a:z)+c+w+q+O+b+(O>1?a:z)+c+p+(--O>0?"Take one down and pass it around, "+O:"Go to the store and buy some more, 99")+b+(O==1?z:a)+c+w+p);}}
Proposal: Christianity
Should this also allow questions that critically ask about the validity of the Christian faith, the Christian bible history and such? And questions about what the bible says about homosexuals, about women and such?
I personally don't like seeing stackexchange grow up to ...
I like data.stackexchange.com/ but I am curious when new site add to this site? now unix and linux and Apple officialy launched but not add to this site yet?
it's pretty annoying because you have to pretty much do it for every element individually
it's pretty visible on the avatar in the user profile; we should probably add the workaround there (although that isn't fixable 100%, but at least it can be made a little less ugly)
@balpha Analogies are like silly putty. It is a crime to not articulate their full elasticity (that is, if we hope for people to be specific when using them)
@balpha, I hope you are laughing at the absurdity of what I just said.
I see the need for town hall chats, but basically everyone answering a single question will be improving upon the previous answer, based on feedback
But as long as the drama stays off of MSO, I'm game :)
Most primary elections result in two candidates, or perhaps three if there is a strong independent party. Here, you'll have 10 people where the 10'th has learned from nine mistakes. It just seems goofy to me.
Thank you to everyone who participated, particularly the candidates! Virtual coffee is on me!
The full transcript to the Town Hall Chat can be found here.
Despite being in timezones all over, all 7 candidates were able to attend!
Whether you were able to attend or are just reading the transcr...
@TimPost, but how does that fit into a chat format? PersonA, answer QuestionX. Person B, answer QuestionY. ... Ok, now PersonA, answer QuestionZ. PersonB, you're up with QuestionX.
This thread is opened for questions addressed to (all) the candidates in the December 2010 moderator election.
If questions are kept simple enough they can be answered fully in the comments, and doing so would reduce the tendency for pre-election voting on the candidates rather than their comm...
I've voted in the elections, going through the profiles. I also looked at the meta participation and I noticed that one user's meta activity was shown as "meta temporarily unavailable". All of the other candidates had their meta ratios shown.
I refreshed the page and that didn't help. (The cand...
