@hichris123 I've had JavaScript code deployed by 3rd party websites break my production site before.

user163250
For really stupid reasons too.

user163250
This one time, a company I worked at was using a JavaScript analytics plugin that used a global variable called s.

user163250
One day, the JavaScript broke on the site because another 3rd party library deployed their own code that also used a global variable s.

DevDoodle doesn't use or allow (via CSP) any external resources except images.
I don't want bad code.

user163250
No one encapsulated their JavaScript variables in closures or used less breakable JavaScript global variable names like myCompanyName_s. <facepalm>

user163250
When we told the 2nd company about it, they changed the variable name to like s_companyName or something. Still didn't use a closure like they should have <facepalm>.

user163250
WHO NAMES A GLOBAL JAVASCRIPT VARIABLE "s"?! <facepalm>

Or $, for that matter.
Or _.

user163250
To be fair, jQuery can be told to use jQuery instead of $.

user163250
Exactly because of naming conflicts with other libraries.

12:18 AM
@Cupcake Seriously? Wow.

jQuery is still an undescriptive name.

Yeah, there's like jQuery jQuery, and bjb jQuery, and SE jQuery...

user163250
@bjb568 no one is going to deploy their own JavaScript code that also uses the name "jQuery". Well, no one who knows what they're actually doing, at least...

I think it's fairly descriptive in a language where minification means variable names of x, a, c, d, o, q, etc.

user163250
I'm sure Underscore.js also has a mechanism for using a unique variable name instead of "_".

12:22 AM
@Cupcake But what does "jQuery" do?

user163250
@bjb568 what do you mean "what does it do"? You of all people should already know what it does.

user163250

user163250

@Cupcake Nothing in particular. It's just a collection of functions and carcinogenic nomad patterns that accomplish basic JS things in more convoluted code. It has no good name, since it doesn't do one thing well. It does many things worse-than-vanilla.

@Cupcake I had this very thing happen to me once.
So maybe others have had it happen to them too, and are upvoting out of their sense of wanting to see an injustice righted.

what's better, a user who gives away 60,000 rep in bounties but still has 40,000 rep left, or a user that gives away 150 in bounties but only has 1 rep left?

The former, because he has given more away.

1:19 AM
but the latter has given almost all he has

To no more than 3 people.
@CRABOLO Here's the thing: to give away 43 bounties is not an anything-quit. It is long, dedicated, deliberate action.

@DragonLordtheFiery Late reply, but I saw you'd been discussing me and seemed confused about what actually happened. There was no plagiarism (I included links to where the content came from, and was never accused of plagiarism), and no rule-breaking sockpuppetry (everything was fully disclosed, and I didn't do anything with the sock account that I couldn't have done with my main account).
I think you hit the nail on the head with this though: "Lots of decisions like this are fueled by a desire to get vengeance, not merely an attempt to solve the problem.‌" The Puzzling mods had been picking on me for a long time, and hugely resented the fact that I'd become top user by a mile. If it had been anyone else who'd posted the same one question and comment as I did, I'm sure they wouldn't have been suspended.
