Considering the rate that I'm reminding myself the Town Hall event, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna forget it just before the event.

user315433
Google calendar, or something.

Need to make SEDE query to check how many MSE questions posted by 1 rep users (at the time of posting them) turned out to be good, i.e. not closed, and with positive score. @rene is this possible?

Register for the event and install SE mobile apps

Oh hey @JonEr I just mentioned you before... does the Mentorship project still have a chance?

@rene if you charged 1 cent for each SEDE query, now you would've been a millionaire, 900,000 dollars of which money came from @Sha.

@ShadowWizard I think this would be simply "the first post by a user". But an important point here is that MSE is also a support channel (unlike other sites), so if the outcome of a post is a happy user (and nothing useful added to the site), that is acceptable.

There are some 1-rep users posted valid mobile apps bug reports..
The other memorable things are 1-rep posting rants

@rene not really, it's giving the current reputation so it means only users who also posted bad questions.

Hmm

Maybe need to limit for users with one question

3:11 PM
@ShadowWizard Yes. But it's going to be waiting for other projects to wrap up.

@ShadowWizard added that condition, otherwise it becomes a rep calc based on time ...

@JonEricson well... at least there's still hope. Thanks!
@rene hmm.... well, guess it doesn't really matter, surely there will be lots of those.

is the town hall meeting an appropriate place to lobby for integrated snippet console visualization? Should I add that as an answer here?

Today's xkcd comic (Full-Width Justification):

@canon Add it as an answer. I think they are working on a list of topics.
It's only an hour, so I'm guessing they will try to keep it on topic

@canon remember that it is SE network wide event, so any participants that only know ELL.SE might go blank on that topic...

Thanks, guys.

snail planeLow Contrast Considered Harmful: The footer is almost unreadable if you have good eyesight, and actually unreadable if you don't. Make sure your designs are high enough contrast to be accessible to everyone. The contrast ratio between text and background should be at least 4.5:1 (see page 36).

Encountered something in the LQ queue. An "answer" that is just a copy-paste of official documentation. Without even formatting.
The scary part: 4 (!!) idiots UPVOTED it.
Can I flag this kind of thing? People who upvote such posts need a warning, if you ask me...

@bluefeet Ok, thanks... is there anything we can do, when we see Really Bad Content upvoted?

Need to buy a backpack. Recommendations?

@S.L.Barth DV
@bjb568 new site proposal - backpack recommendations

:D

7:14 PM
I've half a mind to actually propose that, just for laughs!
Example question: "I'm a cat wearing sunglasses. What kind of backpack is fit for a feline who doesn't like history class?" :-)
But seriously - I don't think I can help you... but the answer will depend on what you need the backpack for. Is it for school?

@S.L.Barth aren't those from that university?

@rene Hm, that could be. The post is deleted now. It was a new user. But the question looks like a serious one.
IIRC "that" university specialized in posting bad question/answer pairs.

@S.L.Barth they are a voting ring, specializing in copy-paste

They might have moved on to "answering" questions from outside their ring.

Well... I tried it for about a day, and counted 25 low-rep users asking OT questions here, @John. That's still too high - over double the legit traffic -and given the rate at which people are still reading those damned inbox notifications it's likely to remain high for the foreseeable future. Will check again in 6-8 weeks. — Shog9 ♦ 5 hours ago

Long tail of the distribution.

If any SE developers are here, may I ask why triggering the spam filter returns a haiku on a plain-text page (see this deleted question)? Is this for performance reasons (which wouldn't be surprising considering the volume of spam getting blocked)? Is this intended to deter spambots by making the message difficult to understand for bots?

@Meta Hm yes... a friend of mine, who I recently introduced to Stack Exchange, also didn't realize the red notification were incoming responses.
Maybe we should make it look like an envelope, or a text balloon?

user315433
@bwDraco Is the haiku any good? Screenshot please...

> Oh tin of pink meat
I ponder what you may be
Snout or ear or feet?
It's just a plain text page, no HTML. There must be a technical reason for this.
Is it for performance reasons?

7:40 PM
I found one that I had stored away.

user315433
A plausible technical reason is "we need a custom page for this, but we don't want to put time into actually building it, so plain text response will do."

Is it meant to reduce the impact of a sudden spam flood to as to make a DDOS more difficult?

@S.L.Barth yes

user315433
I think one needs a reason to build something, not a reason to avoid building it.

@bwDraco is "we don't care about UX for spammers" a technical reason?

Q: Has Stack Overflow been haiku-hacked?

ennuikillerWhen for the first time A new question I answer This haiku appears: Little slab of meat In a wash of clear jelly Now I heat the pan Such a message is Very strange; is anyone Seeing the same thing? Have not seen again. Came and went like the wind does! Why I am so blessed?

7:43 PM
I actually do care about UX for everyone, even if this has an adverse impact on development resources or performance.
I'm wondering if my way is likely to cause problems in production...

It's a dirty job, so better you than me.

Seriously, though, it's a waste of development resources when the SE team is not that big.
I suppose I was wrong.
One more page to support that should never be seen by the end user.
@Shog9 My not having actually worked in a production environment speaks volumes.

Spamming Stack Exchange
Getting weird response from site
Robots giving up.

@S.L.Barth "Will robots give up?" might be better

@Shog9 Oh god. I would not want to live in the 80s.

A dark time indeed

@Braiam Suggestion approved. This makes it the first official cooperative Tavern haiku :-)

The reality of software development is that it's a very stressful job with endless task queues to clear, one bug after another, one feature request after another. There's only so much time, and wasting it on a "spam detected" page is a Bad Idea (tm).
I guess I'll have trouble accepting this until I experience it firsthand on the job...
(I'm still a student.)

The reality of software development is that you set out to build something really wonderful.... and get stuck in DLL hell, conflicting frameworks. hardware that refuses to speak to each other...

@Shog9 I need some animusic to clean my ears/eyes...

But seriously... it's really priority. You have time, quality and functionality. If there is little time to develop, you will have to sacrifice quality or functionality.

Or time.

I've been taught this. Pick two of speed, quality, or cost ("fast, good, or cheap"). Something has to give.

Whatever choice you make, in the end it's about priority.
@bwDraco You'll get used to it. And probably quicker than you think.

No one wants to talk about comments

user315433
I don't want my comments to lie around. Except perhaps the comments under stupid answers pointing out that they are stupid. And the unsuccessful duplicate closures.

user315433
But the UI does not make it easy to delete own comments. At all.

@Quill Ask away. :) It might take me a bit to answer though.
