@rene good to know ... still wondering why this user is not nuked yet, IIRC we had an attack from them a few days ago

@bummi That is true, I was expecting it to be nuked sooner...
Shouldn't site-recommendation questions be received similar as bugs? As in they can go either on the site meta or on MSE? I'm asking because of this

user259867
@rene I'm not sure about general "where to ask X" questions, but if it's phrased as "is X on topic at SO", then the question should be on topic at meta.SO

user259867
+1 Thanks for asking whether or not it was on-topic rather than just posting. — apaul34208 22 hours ago

user259867
^ that is somehow inconsistent with closing the meta question as OT

Strange voting on that question....but the OP has as history...so maybe I'm not seeing the comments already deleted

1:15 PM
@rene agreed but would fit better on MSE IMHO, btw. OT, this on is still not on hold, I don't understand why (the stone old OT close flag what seen helpful) ? mathoverflow.net/questions/26267/…

Hmm, OK... not convinced but it is not worth a fight ;)

I don't want to fight, but following the links of the answers, particularly the last one gives me shivers

That background on accepted answers looks crappy, are all mathematicians colour blind?

@bummi I fully agree

user259867
@bummi This is one off-topic spam magnet that MO users like and want to keep around. At least for the time being.

user259867
1:25 PM
MO is a strange place; I don't go there even to flag spam.

I just don't get it :/. Maybe I should ask a question where to by something else, referring this question as justification

@PeterJ as long as it ads up ...
@bummi That will give you a -111 score within minutes ;)

Maybe they'd like to split off again? They even hate Roomba!

@rene than I could argue on their Meta ;)

Looking forward to it ....

@rene from the next comment it seems he wants to fake the microphone input

@JanDvorak maybe...still... too broad...

Took me a while to work out the microphone question, but seems he wants to essentially mix it into the recorded stream, but as rene said too broad.

1:37 PM
Let me check if the windows mixer is capable of doing that...

If you want to send your sound to another program usual way is to have a second, virtual microphone that pipes the output of your software. Surely the software you want to send your audio to lets the user select which microphone it listens to? — Jan Dvorak 24 secs ago
Not sure how you do such a thing, though, but it's probably OS-specific

@Shog9, there is a request to blacklist the [microsoft] and [apple] tags on SO, thoughts on this ? Will it ever be done ?

Got me thinking: is there an [orange] tag on SO?

There is actually.. Although the wiki says "Orange is a component-based data mining and machine learning software suite", so it's not a bad tag.

I guess it's got nothing to do with Apple? :-D

maybe with [fruty-juice]?

could be a library ;-)

@Unihedron We probably ought to just give every blue person in the Tavern private.

2:21 PM
You realized just now?

@Undo You could be really fancy and do a GET request to the "list of all moderators" page when you check to see if someone has permissions. :P

Or, you know, the CHAT.users object on the browser instance will have a list of users
and there is a is_moderator property

@Unihedron except Tavern steals our blueness
(because it's on chat.meta.SE)

@Doorknob Eh... I was thinking whenever a user with is_moderator arrives, they're automatically added to the privileged users list for the chat site, not network-wide chat sites

Chatception is now at version 0.2 (and could use some beta testers).

@Doorknob will try

@Unihedron bet it needs an observer

@Unihedron I was hoping nobody would notice that. Now I have to do something with mutation observers or something.
:P
I guess I could just do a setInterval and check but that's icky.

@Doorknob ewww

Okay okay fine I'll do a mutation observer. (but that means more effort, complain complain :P)

2:39 PM
just use jQuery .delegate() :P

The mini-chatbox is a child element of the room thing, and I can't add children to new elements with .live or .on
(and it's already in pure JS anyway, not sure why, it just sort of became that way)

if the scrollbar is already on the beginning/end, if i scroll up/down, it'll scroll main chat room instead, can it be fixed?
fixed = stop scrolling

@Unihedron room is one of the other rooms in the sidebar. They usually have three children, but the hover popup box thingy is also a child. So if children.length < 4, there is no hover popup thingy and it needs to be added.
Proof that I really need to comment that code more... or at all.

Oh!

so, I was right
should trust his own judgment more

No but it has nothing to do with how many rooms there are.
This is inside a forEach, so it runs on every room.

Can't you check for "show N more"?

3:49 PM
No, it has nothing to do with how many rooms there are.

No, but it tells you there are hidden rooms if it exists.

I'm not talking about hidden rooms.

... ???
I meant rooms hidden because of the folding in the sidebar.

Okay, so you know how a thing appears when you hover over a room?

Yes.

3:51 PM
That thing is a child of the room element, which is just one of the rooms on the sidebar.
The code in question's job is to add the thing to each room element where it's not already there.

@Doorknob why not verifying if a element with X class isn't there

Because I'm lazy
Yeah I guess that would be a better idea though

Ugh.

I could check for room.getElementsByClassName("msgList").length === 1

@hichris123 for?

POB/unclear

@Braiam Speeding up DNS lookups. In a book I read a long time ago (7 years-ish), it claimed adding IPs for commonly used sites to the HOSTS file sped up accessing those webpages. However, I would bet that DNS is fast enough now that it doesn't matter (and it might even hurt you).

@hichris123 well, it does prevent the system from doing the lookup in first place since it's the first thing it checks
apart of cache

5:53 PM
DNS lookups don't take long though... less than 100 ms for sure.

mine takes ~300
