@Braiam I should star this so that it'll be taken out of context :)
Hahaahahahahah

Now we need a dev to pin this and we're all set

nice.

@ShadowWizard we don't need a dev when we have the duck

@Braiam yeah, but is she still around? :(

@LynnCrumbling POB or to broad would have made it easier for me to agree

@bummi Post Office Box? What for? ;)

@bummi Yeah, whichever you prefer... but it needs to be closed..

@LynnCrumbling voted, but the reason which will be shown differs from my opinion :)

@ShadowWizard no... Pointy Overlord Boss

4:16 PM
@bummi Yeah.. don't get me started on that.. I don't agree with that design decision AT ALL.

@LynnCrumbling we agree in this one :)

@bummi There are so many minor changes that they could make to NOT implicate the voters that chose a different reason..
@bummi But, in the end, I suppose the result is the same: the question was closed.

Sometimes it would even be useful to see that not only one close reason would have fit to prevent to ask a POB, Broad question asking for a resource (closed for rec) again without the rec part :/

don't bother sorting the garbage before taking it out

@bluet I often saw people asking the same junk again, avoiding the close reason, not aware of the other reasons, quick path to a question ban :/

4:29 PM
yes, sort the garbage as best as possible, but don't go digging through it after it's already taken out

Ahw, that was funny

Question: how often is too often to force a user to change their password?

4:33 PM
@Mooseman unclear ... to broad ... context?

At each login would be too often.

@Mooseman for customers? for employees? for grandmas?

@bluet Volunteers

How about you don't bother them at all and just change it for them at a regular interval.

@Mooseman I have accounts that are enforcing a 90 day window... which is WAY to often for me.

4:36 PM
@LynnCrumbling I'm thinking about an algorithm that is never automatic unless there have been failed attempts to login.

Q: How often should passwords change?

CeleritasI'm asking two very related questions As an admin what policies should be enforced regarding the frequency of password changing? I have an idea that users should be forced to change their password after a certain amount of time but a certain amount of login attempts. For example if 30 incorr...

@bummi Both answers are fairly good there. I can temporarily disable account access without repercussions.

@LynnCrumbling What storm? :p

@Mooseman ha.

5:12 PM
Do you have much snow?

@Mooseman I lucked out.. I'm an hour and half west of Philly, so we only got a few inches, and virtually nothing last night.
Kind of a shame, really...

A shame? Not getting three feet sounds like a good thing to me!
The other people in the NE US I've spoken with said they also got essentially nothing.

@Mooseman Well, the forecast was for 4-8 inches.. which would have at least been something that I can throw with my snowblower.

@Mooseman a snowspiracy? according to the MSM this is a historic blizzard that we'll remember for the rest of our lives

@bluet Excuse me while I patent that business plan.

Hey @AnnaLear sorry to bug you again... did you get a chance to reach out to Joe?

@Stijn No, sorry. Haven't seen him pop back online yesterday. I'll forward him your email and ask him to just respond directly. Sound good?

@AnnaLear yeah that's fine. How's the weather over there, as bad as expected?

@Stijn Nah. NYC actually just got a pretty normal snow dump. Boston got the brunt of it, I hear.

Plot twist: Joe is in Boston

@Bart it's like the bounties we put out did absolutely nothing

@AnnaLear So are you working remotely today, or did you make it in?

@LynnCrumbling I'm working from home. Subways weren't running till 9:30, I went to bed at 3, and it's cold out. All in all, not worth going anywhere :)

@AnnaLear ha. I had a conf call with Katie Hurley earlier; she said a lot of SE emp's were working remote today

Yeah, that sounds about right. A lot of them live in NJ, too, which makes getting to the office even more annoying.

@AnnaLear At least you aren't in boston. ;)
@AnnaLear Someone told me that NJ got very little

8:11 PM
I'm on the UES, but it's still a 35-40 minute commute on a good day.
@LynnCrumbling Yeah, but all trains and such between NJ and Manhattan were shutdown.
Also tunnels and bridges.

oh...

We were --><-- close to Escape from New York around here. ;)
All NYC transit was suspended from 11pm last night (which was dumb, but whatever). They're running on a Sunday schedule today.

I guess a certain % of people can always revert to walking.

Sometimes.

On Area 51. Is it OK to post suggestions on proposal sites? E.g. for VIM I would propose discussion on some way to handle posting of vimrc files. Should I wait until the site is up and take it on meta?

8:15 PM
@AnnaLear Did you see the revert that Brad Larson had to do on this post? stackoverflow.com/q/27045559/656243 ... from the same user.

@LynnCrumbling lawl
@Sukminder Wait till the site is up.

@AnnaLear: OK, thanks.

Although, what's wrong with just posting vimrc contents as code blocks? (Disclaimer: I haven't used Vim extensively at all.)

I have a feeling .vimrc files can be giant and that might be the issue

Depending on the issue, excerpts should do fine? Kinda the same way how we ask for a small sample on SO rather than the entire repo.
Either way, a good thing to hash out once the site is up. :)

8:20 PM
My though is that it is that it would be best to have some collapse functionality - e.g. like with source examples on stackoverflow where one can choose to make it hidden. For vimrc, yes they can be huge. Problem is that users often do not know what is causing an issue. It can be wrong order of things etc. As such a excerpt is often not enough ...
Or even some attach functionality.

@Sukminder You might be able to solve this ahead of time: How is Emacs.SE handling config issues?
They appear to be using init-file as the tag for their configuration questions

@KevinBrown: Good question. I'll look. Thanks.

@Anna thanks a lot for your help, the 'issue' has been solved :)

@Stijn sure thing :)

The main question is - in what cases would distribution of season fumbles (y) by NFL team (x) be a normal distribution? In what c...
