I'm going to get 4096 by reviewing edits faster than it would take me to get 2048 in that addictive game.

@Braiam I do like the new top bar

@LaszloPapp Those commenters are being real dicks to a new user.
And someone who clearly doesn't have a great grasp of English.

4:02 AM
@jadarnel27 not Captain Oblivous.

@jadarnel27: pardon?

The amusing comment you linked, @LaszloPapp. About using the bathroom.

I do not follow. It is correct, we do not care about the bathroom, but the problem.
the OP made himself amusing :)
not sure what is "dick" about it... IMHO, it is asking for more information about the real problem which was not mentioned.

"Did you upgrade to the latest version of jquery?" - sarcasm
"I hope you remembered to call std::flush" - sarcasm.
"Oh I didn't think about that, of course your code can't possibly have any defects. My bad" - sarcasm.
@LaszloPapp All of the other comments are sarcastic and unhelpful.
The one comment you linked is the only one that is even kind of helpful.
@JanDvorak Does the Captain have a reputation, or something?

haha, I just realized what std::flush means :)
well, it is funny, and not offensive, so it is ok.
I do not think that is sarcasm, just a joke.
but perhaps I have good faith.

4:08 AM
\me rechecks the question

"Oh I didn't think about that, of course your code can't possibly have any defects. My bad" -> well, it is true, but perhaps could be worded better.

oh. Yeah... the OP called for that joke.

@LaszloPapp I don't think it's okay, because it makes our community look bad. This is the reception a new user gets - totally unhelpful feedback and mockery, followed by their question being closed.

@LaszloPapp of OP claims his code must be bugfree, it's hard to be but sarcastic.

yeah, the OP is a weird guy, he deserves critics, but it could have been put better... I still stick by that "std::flush" is cheerful even for the OP :)
(I would take it as a "lol" as an OP, and as such a positive thing)

4:11 AM
Sure, that joke by itself would have been fine.

...and now the entire question is going down the drain

well, Captain Obvlious is like that anyhow.

It took me less than 30 seconds to write a comment (with a far more positive tone) explaining to the OP what's wrong with his question, and how to fix it.
Of course, it might get deleted before that happens.

what to do with the OP here, @jadarnel27? stackoverflow.com/questions/23325442/…
he has just joined and has an extremely unfriendly and harsh tone.
what can we expect from such an OP in the future on the site...

Have you really just joined today to repeat the same answer now at three places? If the answer is same everywhere, just gain enough reputation for flagging as duplicate... We really do not need the same answers because if one gets outdated, incorrect, etc, and one updates it, it will not be updated at all places... — Laszlo Papp 2 mins ago

@JanDvorak well, phone number back in title.

Hola!

Hola!

Morning

I thought you had that automated, @JanDvorak.
I mean, the 'SPAM' thing.

@AmalMurali why, have I missed something?

¿cómo estás

6:43 AM
@AmalMurali websocket -> script -> me -> chat

Cool. I think it'd be easier for mods to track them if you use something like instead of just 'SPAM'.

would it? Why?
it takes longer to type out, though

It isn't done by a script then?

It is more outstanding in the bunch of text, @JanDvorak, thus doing , too.

@AmalMurali not really, and it's not for mods. Most of us here are mere mortals, but with flag power over all sites. :)

6:47 AM
@JanDvorak I thought you had a script that finds posts of spammy nature and posts in this chat room. Didn't know it was manual.

it does not matter whether it is mod or not, though, indication is still useful.

@Jan you can make a shortcut via script that use a template :)

Maybe I should borrow a bit of Manish's code to:
- flag the current post
- comment "pls flag"
- post here

@ShadowWizard: Ah, I see. But still, don't you think looks prettier than SPAM?

@JanDvorak yup that might work as well. But his bot is server side, isn't it?

6:49 AM
@ShadowWizard shouldn't be too hard to port

@JanDvorak Python to JavaScript? Sounds hard to me...

I only want the "post to chat" part
namely, the URL

python to javascript, vice versa is pretty simple.

@JanDvorak oh, that's possible with pure JS, I started here in chat with a "Hello Bot"

@ShadowWizard was it running in the chat window?

mine would be running from the spam page
status-alive

@JanDvorak oh, so same-origin policy will nuke client side posting

@ShadowWizard GM_* makes SOP a no-problem

@JanDvorak GM what?

[status-these-dont-work-with-anything-else-in-the-same-post]

they work prefect but how to i generate a single string from that. if i use both then they will gave me two result and i need single . i mean in a string i want to replace hashtag in hashtag tage link and mention to a link to user profile. — Sach 49 mins ago
Is anyone able to understand what he's saying?

I think I know what words he meant to use
but the semantics of the last simple clause evade me
the whole paragraph is generally unclear

I gave up already. CV'd as "Unclear what you're asking".

done

@AmalMurali looks like he want to merge the two preg_replace() commands into one.

@ShadowWizard sounds like trying to combine their results to me

7:05 AM
I stay away from regex so can't help myself, but it sounds possible. Isn't it?
@JanDvorak the result is a string, so it's simple matter of working with same string.
> i want to combined both in one expression
"expression" most likely means the regex expression, no?

OK... I'll stop pretending I have a clue what the question is about.

@ShadowWizard: Yeah, that's what I thought he was trying to do. But he's not making much sense in the comments.

@AnnaLear hey, if you're around please let me know. :)
@AmalMurali true, guess you're right. Yet another hopeless question, one among maaany.

But it can't be combined into a single expression as I commented there. :P

@AmalMurali so maybe it's as trivial as using the same string and the OP doesn't know this?

@ShadowWizard The OP had two accounts that are now merged. The assoc bonus should catch up in a few. — Anna Lear ♦ Apr 4 at 0:03
24 days later, still no bonus

No, that's not what I meant. He has two preg_replace() statements, each of them having different replacement parameters. It wouldn't make sense to combine them into a single statement.

@AmalMurali yep, got this. But what is the output of preg_replace()? Isn't it a string with the replaced characters?

Yeah, it is.
Simplified case: you have a string "foo bar baz", you want to replace "foo" with "1" and "bar" with "2". You can easily write two preg_replace() statements to replace them:
$string = preg_replace('/foo/', '1', $string);
$string = preg_replace('/bar/', '2', $string);
But can you combine them into a single one? Nope.

@Amal so maybe the OP got such actual code:
$string1 = preg_replace('/foo/', '1', $string);
$string2 = preg_replace('/bar/', '2', $string);
And he's not aware he can use the same variable?

7:18 AM
Oh, I get what you mean.

@AmalMurali always think simple and trivial first, that's what I learned in a previous, now dead, forum I used to roam.

Added a comment under the question. Hopefully he gets it :)

@Stilly.stack let me see...

@Stilly.stack Meta Stack Overflow is a brand new site
Everything you had moved to Meta Stack Exchange aka MSE
768 views, not bad :)

@Stilly.stack no, the team already migrated everything that needed migration.
Even better, we are encouraged to have duplicates in MSO and MSE i.e. build some sort of "repository" in MSO with contents that already exist in MSE.

Seeing as @Bart is simply a pair of glasses, I think it's as simple as finding a towel. Or some sand or dirt or something.

@Bart well, I guess that being so active for so long on the Tavern got its price, which comes in stars.

@Bart Nope, in fact I've quite often found and destroyed sock puppets on Stack Exchange.

user213963
We kind of need a community manager over at Programmers. A repeating troll with offensive material. Spam flags won't be bad either, but given the persistence some SE powers may be needed.

@ShadowWizard Yeah, Philosopy pro tempore mod

@MichaelT must be a bored teenager

Yay, flagging the flag out of him

user213963
Those two are accounts #2 and #3. There is another that got spam destroyed before.

@MichaelT not spam, offensive. Same end result (6 flags cause auto delete) and more accurate for the filters behind the scenes.
Anyway, those words are familiar, looks like the infamous "hacker" is back for another round.

@MichaelT got nuked

user213963
Correct - the offensive flags... There is also a some number of flags on all questions asked destroys the user too.

1:28 PM
Myeah, it's a familiar pattern.

@MichaelT I don't think so. As far as I know account deletion can be done only by a diamond mod. (or SE employee of course)

1:44 PM
@Pops you here by any chance?

@ShadowWizard I am now. What's up?

I made quite a mess :(
@Pops Can you please see my latest flag and handle it?

Messes are not allowed! You're suspended!
On what site? Meta SE?

Don't want to share it here due to obvious reason
MSE yes
Mess on MSE... hmm... lol

Can't spell mess without mse

@ShadowWizard I accidentally clicked that link but I get a "Message signature was incorrect.* Expecting the SE police in 3, 2...

@Bart Mses?

Close enough

@Stijn oh so it must be a temporary token only. Still, risky!

user213963
@ShadowWizard Those two accounts I linked earlier are now 404'ed. I am fairly sure there's a system that says "if all of the posts of a user are deleted as spam or offensive, the user is destroyed too". Community handled the deletes of the answers - not another mod, so thats how that got deleted.

@MichaelT correct about posts (both answers and questions) which get auto deleted after 6 flags, but I think you're wrong about account.

1:50 PM
That would surprise me. It would mean we could essentially nuke new users if we wanted to.
Perhaps it raises a flag instead?

In theory, even after having 1000 posts deleted as spam, the account will stay unless nuked manually by someone with the power to do it.
@Pops thanks, noticed you nuked that revision. I was logged in as that user and while amusing, having it public like that was horrifying.

So you ADMIT to stealing another user's credentials!

@Pops well, the indian hacker team? You know... well.. :-P
@MichaelT yup, will likely get rejected at some point, or just buried along with thousands of inactive feature requests. It got a point, but too risky in my opinion.
@Pops lol you also gave a diamond, I see?

@Bart It was nice knowing an admitted criminal? Who would say such a thing other than another criminal? YOU CAN BE BANNED AS WELL

Howdy folks, friendly neighborhood moderator here. I hear you all like free flags, and I need a little help cleaning something up. This user: stackoverflow.com/users/2714702/vizllx?tab=answers is a serial plagiarist. I suspect pretty much everything they have posted for the last six months at least is plagiarized from somewhere. It takes a while to go through and find the original sources for each of these posts, however, so I thought I'd crowdsource this.

Ooooooh fun.

@greyglassbottle I really don't care about a few points right now, but in the future, it would be polite to accept the first answer when there are several identical solutions. — DanFromGermany 5 mins ago

@BradLarson Custom plagiarism flag, right?

4:03 PM
@AmalMurali I'm sad I'm out of comment flags. :(

"accept the first answer", what a stupid logic.

@Undo It's probably longer, but I cleaned up many of these in November, December, and January when they were flagged for this then. I forgot to check in with them, and they've continued since. There's probably a higher concentration in the last six months.

Amal, really stupid logic

@Undo Please, with a link to the original post or posts they copied the answer from. That lets me tag it with a comment and possibly close the question as a duplicate.

awesome

4:05 PM
I added a comment quoting a meta post ;>
@DanFromGermany: You are supposed to accept the best answer, not the quickest. From this post: "Don't pick too quickly: Try not to select an answer minutes after posting it. Sometimes a better answer will come hours later, and you might miss out on it if you select your answer too fast. The other problem with this is that other stack overflow users will see the accepted answer, only read that one and not the others, and vote it up. You will have an inflated vote answer for possibly not the best answer.". — Amal Murali 4 mins ago

zildjohn01For anyone who works with x86 assembly, I'm curious which assembler you use. Preferably, the name should be an acronym and end in "ASM" =)

The flag was declined saying I should just VTC is. Apparently moderators can't see that I have.
