@mootinator Neat I just got that privilege on The Workplace ^_^

1:58 AM
@animuson What is that from?

@jadarnel27 NCIS: The Game

Hmmm. That's not what I was thinking.

It was a fairly easy game, one of the easier platinum trophies I've gotten. :/

2 hours later…
3:35 AM
can i earn Strunk & White badge after 2K reputation , or the process(edit count) will be stopped ?

Of course you can, it has nothing to do with the full edit privilege

okey :)

3:47 AM
@animuson Platinum trophies?

On the PS3, some games give you a platinum trophy for collecting all the other trophies.

Oh. Gotcha.
I've never actually played a PS3 =)

:o Blasphemy!

I know, I know. I've played Wii and Xbox 360, though I don't own either. I mostly play games on my PC.

There's a few PS3-only titles that cause me to dust that thing off, admittedly. Gran Turismo used to be one of those, but 4 kinda ruined things for me and I switched to Forza on the Xbox 360.

3:52 AM
Ratchet & Clank is a PS-Exclusive

I've never been able to play racing games well. I always lose, and never seem to get any better.

@animuson This.

So is Sly Cooper :)

GT4 sucked, but GT5 sorta redeemed the series =)

@jadarnel27: I hear ya, I hate racing games. The only one I've ever really enjoyed was Need for Speed: Undercover because it actually had like a story behind it.

3:53 AM
I like starting a 24 hour race.

I loved playing the sports games on Xbox Kinect, until my friend's dog bit me. Apparently, I was agitating it with all my jerky movements.

Then laughing at myself 2 minutes in and turning the PS3 off.

I actually completed one of those once.

@animuson I did think that one looked cool, although I never played it =)
@animuson Ah, I loved that on PS2. I still have it somewhere, actually =P

I just finished N4S Undercover for the Playbook. That anything like the original? :P

3:56 AM
Oh, well they're remaking all of the PS2 ones for PS3. The first collection of three comes out on August 28 and includes a demo of Sly 4. There's also a brand new one they're making for whatever anniversary that's going to be released on PSN.

That sounds awesome.

^ The first HD collection is already available in Europe. I think it's PSN-only though.
But Europe doesn't get the demo of Sly 4. HA
They actually bumped it up a month. It was originally scheduled to release October 2. Imagine our surprise to get it bumped up all the way to August 28. o.o
Now that we've transformed the Tavern into the Gaming chat-room....

Right. We should get back onto the topic of...

Tabletop gaming!
Dice eh?
Cards eh?

Canada eh?

3:59 AM
Trollz, EH?

@animuson Well...for select definitions of story. :P

A big ol stein of beer eh?
I'll have a Pil.

I figured we're supposed to talk about who to blame things on. And bugs discussion support waffles.

@mootinator What about the weirdos that don't drink beer?
A big ol stein of milk.

4:02 AM
Mountain Dew?

Or milk steak.

Or milk.

Or cake.

@mootinator That works, though I'm more of a Pepsi guy.

Oooh, I have leftover cake I need to eat. Good call.

4:03 AM
I just bought a whole cake for myself. :o Again.

That thing cost an arm and a leg, as far as cakes for 2 year olds go.

I also couldn't help going to McDonald's and trying their new spicy chicken bites.

I tried their s'mores pie the other day. Meh.

Why do I bother getting a plate? I'm the only one eating it. I should just eat it straight off the whole cake...

Brown.

4:07 AM
Ohhh, I can get a coupon for a free Powerade now. :) I think MyCokeRewards makes you print your coupons though, and my printer is broken. :(

You could have just said "...and my printer is a printer."
Apr 26 at 4:48, by jadarnel27
I'm going to break my printer into 4 equal sized pieces. And then indiscriminately grind the 4 pieces into dust.

Mine just stopped working because it's old. :/

What movie is that from?

A movie.

I see. I get the "Call me, maybe" reference (unfortunately), but not the movie thing.
status-mystery-solved

4:22 AM
@jadarnel27 No no no no no no no no no. Where's the Wikipedia onebox!?

Who do I look like, @PopularDemand?
Oneboxing Wikipedia pages is for nubs.

DyaPossible duplicate of : Remove white spaces from a string

Hmm....
I don't understand how that got by the trivial post -> comment converter...
Ah.

and that answer got 2 voteups .!!!!

So vote it back down?
It'll end up deleted anyways...

5:19 AM
i downvoted and surprise , someone has upvoted it again

@animuson :P

@TimStone I CANNOT HELP MYSELF!!!

Hahah

@TimStone is @animuson causing trouble again?

When isn't he?

5:33 AM
fair point.

@Rebecca: No, just voting to delete that question we closed. Nothing to see here...

On the one hand, I can't condone deleting anything of mine. On the other hand, I inexplicably thought that it already had been deleted...so doing so would just be aligning reality with my perception of it, which I can get behind...so I'm conflicted.

hmm, yeah, that doesn't consider answer short-links at all

I think that feature predates the /a/ links by at least a few months, so that's not surprising.

5:44 AM
My dad asked me if I'd mind spending a couple weeks in Lincoln to take care of my grandparents. o.o
@TimStone: I was so busy trying to bat signal you that I forgot to upvote the question! :o

:O!

Hehe :D I fixed that now, though.

So, what'd you say to your dad?
Ah, should see if I can fix the @mention issue with the userscript before doing the digests.

I just stared at him like he was crazy.

IF ONLY I COULD EASILY INSTALL THE UPDATED SCRIPT. -_-
At least they made it drag and drop, I suppose.
Yay, fixed.

6:07 AM
Good, answer got deleted and i got my -1 Rep back :)

@TimStone 4.5 to be exact. (:

Ah ha

How many total SO users ? any idea ?

The site directory says that there are 1,270,141 registered Stack Overflow users

Hmmm, should users with less than 1k rep be able to split Primary vote count?

12:48 PM

A: Who can split the votes in the primary election

Geoff DalgasVote counts for the primary election will be visible for all who have enough reputation to vote after the next deploy.

@TimStone That's...weird.
He's not being very clear :D

I got an error on SU when I tried it
(I have less than 1k there)

Hmm, I'm in the odd position of not being able to test myself.

Samesies. I don't have enough rep to vote.
But I trust @Flexo's assessment.

> An error occurred during vote count fetch

12:57 PM
Yeah, I tried on Server Fault and got the same thing.
Guess that change got reverted in some fashion, seems like a bug.

1:51 PM
I don't really see the big deal here. The guy discloses his affiliation, and writes complete answers, then links to relevant articles on his website. All he really needs to do is (like Marc said) indicate that there is a paywall on the other side of that link.
/rant.

2:07 PM
I may have to frame that.

Hahaha

@jadarnel27 it does look like the only reason he's writing most answers is as an excuse to post links to his paywalled content
it's not much different to writing "hey I'm awesome, hire me" at the end of every answer

@Flexo But his answers appear to be helpful and correct; no one's being forced to pay for the additional content behind the paywall.
@Flexo Well yeah, it's definitely kind of artificial in some of the answer I've seen now.

@jadarnel27 they're helpful and correct without the link. The only person the link adds value for is the poster himself

2:23 PM
@Flexo I don't think that last sentence is necessarily true, though. It would (presumably) add value to anyone willing to pay the subscription.

Given that there is an index on OwnerUserId and the user only has a few hundred posts, can anybody tell me why this query would be timing out?

Anonymous
SELECT Id as [Post Link]
FROM Posts
WHERE OwnerUserId = 13924
AND Body LIKE '%ffconsultancy%'
OR Body LIKE '%fsharpnews%'

But I recognize I'm in the minority as far as my opinion on this spammer thing. Perhaps I should just move along.

When @TimStone gets here, he should be able to ... he's helped work on that project a few times

Anonymous
(I thought that only looking at a small sample of his answers was unfair when we have the data to check all of them.)

2:27 PM
seems wikipedia have already blocked him for spam

SELECT Id as [Post Link]
FROM Posts
WHERE OwnerUserId = 13924
AND (Body LIKE '%ffconsultancy%'
OR Body LIKE '%fsharpnews%')

@jadarnel27 Oh boy. Thanks.

;-)

Heh :P

91/430 = 21% overall, assuming he only uses those two domain (I haven't checked very closely.)

2:35 PM
That's pretty high, but not as high as I expected from the statements being made in that question.

@jeremybanks What's in Data.SE is not "all of them"

how many are real answers and how many are link only?

@jcolebrand Pretty sure Jeremy's aware of that =)

You're missing anything since the last data dump and anything that's been deleted
@jadarnel27 I assume that most people in here with less than 10k meta rep aren't.

Anonymous
@jcolebrand True. But unless this is truly recent it's a nearer approximation than just taking the top tenth of his posts, which the current top post is doing.

2:37 PM
And even that's chancy

@jcolebrand Ah, gotcha. Better safe than sorry.

Anonymous
I'll disclaim appropriately. :)

3:00 PM
looks like someone serial downvoted @casperone a few hours back

@Flexo Sorry, that guy just really annoys me sometimes. Er, I mean, uh, nothing.

hey guys
i am looking for an answer that had a link to a data query which helped you churn out a rough meta reputation

@jokerdino why not just look at the real rep?

the real rep? i need the query for other meta sites.

oh I see per-site meta

3:05 PM
i mean, i know i can find the rep on MSO. but i don't have the luxury on child meta sites

A: Any way to find out who are the top meta.site.SE users?

NickCI asked this question because I'd like to know if there is any way this is (or could be) built into the site. However... The Data Explorer can be used to analyze users/questions/answers since it has access to the per-site Metas. So, I put together Top users by calculated rep to give a rough ca...

@PopularDemand tada! nice.
just what i missed.

I've still got it!

@PopularDemand Overachiever.

i was gonna say the answer was made by a SE mod and Anna Lear commented on it
but i was half wrong there
ooh wait. I actually have it favorited in Data.SE

3:11 PM
Whoa. When did Jaydles become an employee?

@jeremybanks - shortest posts first. Shows the link only ones: data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/75698

Hmm I don't belong in here. Back to the bat cave. Thanks for the link neways!
i be hanging around later.

@PopularDemand I've never heard of the guy. Interesting.
I also don't know who he would be on the Team page.

3:29 PM
He doesn't seem to be on there.

jaydles?

Apparently, he's the "VP of Community at StackExchange."

Anonymous
Well, that explains why he's not on "Stack Exchange"'s team page, doesn't it?

@jadarnel27 tis a bit out of date

@jeremybanks lol
@RebeccaChernoff Alrighty =) Does the next update include animated pictures for Jin and Jeff Atwood?

3:39 PM
heh

I was hoping that was a link to the meta Q
@jadarnel27 the real Q (cc @Reb) is does the next update include more-accurate-to-natural-visage pictures for Chris :p

lulz
I'll assume that means that Chris is really a moving puppet. Gotcha.
headline: rchern confirms Chris is a sockpuppet literally
I kill me

@jcolebrand more like "omg people give it up already" heh q:

heheheehehe
I wanted the sockpuppet joke, tyvm
If anything we need three more of Chris so that there is always one on duty.

4:09 PM
@jcolebrand Ha, right. I was just referencing the Meta Question for that real life example =)

4:20 PM
Hey @TimStone, have you beaten Diablo 3 on inferno?

I have not. :(
I'm stuck in Act II

Ah, that's where my brother's stuck. I have not quite beaten Hell yet, so you guys are both ahead of me =)

Hmm, do I have you as a friend on there? (Did I already ask that before?)

What's this. It's Diablo 3 playing day?

A small group of adventurers banding together to defeat an ultimate evil, meeting in a tavern? Come on.

4:24 PM
@mootinator shhhh, don't tell anyone, I've not started playing it yet

@PopularDemand You're right, too farfetched.

@TimStone No, you don't. But you can request me via my gmail =)
I just read this new post, which has some interesting stuff in it: MESSAGE FROM MIKE MORHAIME
@TimStone I'd give you my BattleTag (awesomely, it is "brown"), but it's useless without the 4 digit code that I can never remember.

Hahah, I'm at the office now anyway...so remind me later.

@jadarnel27 I love the first reply.

Hahaha, right.

4:33 PM
<-- mootinator#1455
Shocking that I would use that as a BattleTag, I know.

Holy crap Kevin, when did you get to 6k rep?

It's been trickling in slowly.
I think Tuesday, though.
Nope, last Thursday. Time flies.
Had I known this was going to be such a popular question, I might have made a more comprehensive answer: stackoverflow.com/questions/5072804/…

@mootinator I'm appalled.

1 hour later…
5:40 PM
lulz
@sixlettervariables - I'm not wasting any more time on this. I think this question is bollocks and only exists because the OP got into a comment bun fight, whereupon feeling injured in some way wanted to have a bit of a moan and "have something done" about this user. If he'd done the proper thing and just quietly flagged for mod attention, we'd have reviewed and dealt with whatever we saw was necessary. Instead we have this school playground tattle tail righteous horror crap that's gone on. Jeez. — Kev 18 mins ago

I think that comment from Kev is crap

You want CRAP? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE CRAP!

Fair enough

I've seen the unfortunate consequences interacting with J.H. can have on people before, therefore I'm not surprised.

I just don't think that it is very fair to dismiss the real concerns that are raised here with a broad brush like "school playground tattle tail righteous horror crap"
I don't know or give a crap about J.H., but if I can start throwing paywall links on my answers, I'm going to -- I have mouths to feed and student loans to pay

6:07 PM
@Chris Just to be clear, I wasn't trying to be dismissive by linking the (now deleted) comment - I just thought his rant was amusing.
I know we disagree on the topic at hand, but I always try to be civil. And I sort-of understand the concerns of the other side.

6:43 PM
is raging right now.

7:31 PM
@mootinator Did you try to install Oracle from shell too?

Ha.
No, a combination something which can't be discussed on a public forum, and a tech demo I was adding into an existing project but every time I have time to work on it, I just spend the whole time trying to get all the dependencies to work properly. For the second thing, I just started a new, empty project so I don't do that again.

Well, at least it sounds like the second issue was relatively easily solved.

Ha, @jadarnel27 beat you this time ;)

Hahaha. You win this time, Fischer. five seconds grumble grumble

7:46 PM
But you beat me on the close vote.

I didn't notice that.

Yeah well, I beat you both to the delete vote, so hah!

Are you bragging about being late to the party? ;-)

@TimStone Yeah, that was hard, wasn't it?

Hahah

7:54 PM
I don't even kind of understand the most recent edit to that self promotion question.

How did this guy get to be product manager over careers version 2? meta.stackoverflow.com/users/184698/will-cole
Certainly, I'm more qualified to do his job and I'd like to nominate myself to replace him.
Will has been on Stack Exchange for 4 months now, and all he has got was 500 EXP from asking some questions about baseball. He obviously shows very little passion for Q/A, and moreover has no activity on StackOverflow -- stackoverflow.com/users/1440629/will-cole
How could have gotten the job offer before me? If it wasn't for me SE would have long devolved into an even more unbearable place than it is today.
I think Jeff owes it to me to at least put me on retainer, and remove any bans and filters still present.
It's funny that I have more EXP than he does on MSO, and yet I've been banned for a year and half. At one point, I was told I was a disruption to the community. I bet right after Jeff put down the phone he started cold-calling people randomly to hire the next product manager for Careers v2.

9:45 PM
His being sane probably played a big part in the decision.
Just sayin'
