Woooo The Workplace will be 100 days old tomorrow ^_^
Or is it today? o.o

12:55 AM
Badges galore :D

@jadarnel27 Oh, by the way, I was deliberately building misplaced anticipation of that.

Grrr I've picked up a nasty habit of hitting Ctrl-B rather than Ctrl-V lately. -.- Then I think it just didn't work so I try pasting again and then it pastes in bold.

@Shog9 That's funny, I actually did call them in that situation. They reversed all the overdraft fees except the first one, which was very nice.
@mootinator I knew it!

3:57 AM
Can somebody take a look at stackoverflow.com/suggested-edits/320461 please, I accidentally misclicked.
Too late.

Well, on the bright side, "Did not got positive answer." is the only part which seems to be worse.

Hmm I typed "mcdonalds" and somehow Google ended up with "mcnalds" in the text box...

7:33 AM
@animuson is there a difference between 'Nah' & 'No' ?

No doesn't sound so ghetto.
When I hear "nah" I think of downtown in the bad neighborhoods... and I was already editing your post, so I was like "why not change it?"

ok

7:47 AM
The Nah is sound like my children cries a bit. :)

8:37 AM
If I press (and release) CTRL once while in an edit box, the contents of the edit box get dimmed. This happens on all SE sites. Is this intended?

yes
if you have this installed :)

Q: Better handling of indentation and the TAB key when editing posts

balpha About This user script changes the behavior of a few keys (most notably the Tab key) within the post editor to behave more like it does in IDEs or text editors: When multiple lines are selected, Tab and Shift-Tab indent and dedent these lines When nothing is selected, Tab and Shift-Tab i...

> So you don't have to reach for the mouse to tab out of the editor you can press and release the Ctrl key, and the next key press will not be intercepted; thus Tab takes you out of the editor. Pressing and releasing Ctrl will grey out the text editor until the next keystroke to clarify this. If you think this is too awkward, I'm open to other suggestions, but there should be some way to tab out of the editor .

Ooops ... sorry
I installed it, then used a different computer for a couple of days and forgot about it ... I always did want to be able to use tabs, so thank you for this script!

the Ctrl thing is a bit weird, but I couldn't think of anything better to enable you to both use Tab in the textbox and to tab out of it

8:53 AM
I just realized that posting a chat transcript is really confusing when both of your display names are the same. ^_^ Haha, my friend was like "wtf?"

9:24 AM
I hate that users like: stackoverflow.com/users/709081/jimmy-alando are left to fester

@Flexo Heh, Arqade sees a lot more of those

woah look at the spam on: stackoverflow.com/questions/11219/…

9:58 AM
@Flexo The profile now gives a friendly 404.

I killed it

Well done, I suppose.

@balpha want a whole load more? ;) I was using google to look for wow gold spam slipping through unnoticed but mostly it returned users with no remaining visible activity

Do stack.imgur.com images ever expire if they are not linked from anywhere?
Are there any concerns that "bad people" will start using stack.imgur.com to host their own images and link them from other sites?

A: Potential to abuse Imgur?

balpha 1. Is this behavior expected? Expected as in "You should do this" – obviously not. Expected as in "we know it's possible" – yes. 2. Does it not matter to Stack Exchange and Imgur? It's pretty much impossible to prevent this 100%, at least up front. However, hijac...

@balpha There are two practical reasons I'm asking: one is, I'd like to know if it's safe to use stack.imgur.com hosting for images used on StackExchange blogs (i.e. will you guys ever run a script that removes all images not linked from an SE site or chat? -- the expectation might be that the blog images should use blogoverflow hosting)

that's a question for @RebeccaChernoff

cheers guys very professional approach — HatSoft 3 mins ago

@balpha the other reason is that we have a fairly successful Mathematica extension that allows uploading images directly from Mathematica to stack.imgur.com with the push of a button (we use it all the time on Mathematica.SE). I was always a bit concerned that this may be perceived as an abuse, people may start using it to upload images for other purposes, or that you guys will close the possibility of easy uploading (this is why I didn't dare ask before, but I guess I had to ask eventually...)

that's really answered in my answer ^^^ If it's used on SE, there's obviously no issue; if it's not, don't rely on it continuing to exist

10:33 AM
Of course it's made for SE use. I hope people will only use it for that.

10:50 AM
@balpha Is it possible for you to change the link to the mathjax tutorial on our site? See meta.chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/82/…
Basically, the current tutorial is just too big, and most of the stuff there doesn't even work in mathjax
A friend of mine refrained from writing a post when she saw the tutorial ("I need to read all that first, I'll do it later"), I bet others may have been intimidated as well

I have trouble loading SO pages, hangs with "Read cdn.sstatic.net" in the status bar, lots of warnings about dropped declarations in the error console, and one "The connection to ws://sockets.ny.stackexchange.com has terminated unexpectedly". No problems on meta. Any ideas?

I really don't feel like refactoring this 800 line class file </whine>

@jadarnel27 Do you feel more like rewriting it from scratch?

@DanielFischer Haha, thanks for the perspective. That's a good point, no I do not ^_^

Always happy to brighten up your day.

Haha, well done. I am far too negative in the mornings.
Perhaps I should start trying to get more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep.

12:57 PM
Make a cron job, sleep(28800).

Does the line before that send a command to some sort of mechanical device that will knock me unconscious?

I don't know how your OS implements sleep. May be that, or chloroform.

I certainly prefer chloroform to blunt force trauma.
Looking at the quality of questions in SO I think posting them is too easy. — Tadeusz Kopec 51 mins ago

1:18 PM
But I recently read that the quality improved after the quality filter was implemented.

1:31 PM
One of my co-workers just called himself "The Solutionist" after fixing a problem. He was completely serious. Wow.

1:51 PM
Does that seem...incredibly arrogant to anyone else? Or am I just crazy?
(Or both, I guess. Pretty sure I'm crazy regardless)

Perhaps it was meant as an -ism, he believes in the superiority of solutions (seriously, yes, sounds daft and arrogant).

@DanielFischer The worst part was that he had already written the thing off as someone else's problem, then was told he had to figure out a way to do it (or work around it).

Q: UI is crap for non-seasoned posters

JobGovernorfor instance, first action for me to go through is checking if the question has been answered yet. I did, and found similar issue that is 3 years old (mind you after clicking on it and looking for a date). I mean just step aside your fucking throne and listen to what I am fucking telling you. Yo...

Hmmm, not Friday yet, eh?
Surprisingly, meta.stackoverflow.com/search?q=fuck actually has a few results
Although this post doesn't appear to show up
I guess SE search really is crap :P

@TimYiJiang Ha, apparently not =)

(Either that or it hasn't indexed the question yet)

It's okay, I have a running time machine gag, you can go back and fix it.

@jadarnel27 somebody has anger issues

3:02 PM
Aw, Allow users to pay 2X of their own reputation to deal X damage to target user's reputation got deleted.

@PopularDemand was that an Evan Caroll (sp?) special?

=(
I think it was @jeremybanks.

It has two undelete votes. I could resurrect it.
It was indeed jeremybanks, posted on Friday, March 30.

You and your fancy privileges.
(You should totally do that, though)

I dunno... it was funny, but was it truly one of the elite joke questions?

3:07 PM
REP HADOUKEN!
Change the title to that.
Now it's elite.
(Yeah, probably not.)
A proper hadouken would remove a fixed amount of rep and cause a temporary ban anyway.

@PopularDemand I think so. The vote count on it was pretty crazy, wasn't it?

@jadarnel27 +28/-28

56 is a lot of votes for a non-faq question on Meta =)

It's no +31 -147 though. ;P

Haha, true that.

3:20 PM
The last delete vote was cast by The Establishment, too. I'm scared of hesitant to dishonor his memory.

I'm getting really slow (~20 seconds) responses from Gravatar when loading some people's profile images. Anyone else experiencing that?
@PopularDemand I wonder if he was startled away by another spastic UI feature.

Yeah, YSlow really doesn't like that about this page.

@jadarnel27 I saw that but blamed https everywhere for it since it seemed to be redirecting to secure.gravatar.com for me

4:19 PM
Nothing about this answer seems correct to me. Or am I reading it wrong?

I wasn't sure what he was saying.
Of course, I wasn't sure what the question was asking really in the first place. :P

Oh, I think Ben Brocka's got it. ChrisF is talking about @-replies in comments not updating, I guess.
(Which isn't what the question is asking about, so that's why it's confusing)
@TimStone Haha, right. I don't see the point of the question either.

4:53 PM
I'm surprised that this question is marked as "status-deferred". It doesn't seem like the kind of thing Stack Exchange would ever implement.

Maybe Jeff was going crazy in the summer heat all those years ago.

Heh, I didn't notice the date on the revision where he added that tag. I imagine what's really status-deferred, then, is removing that tag from that question =P

5:08 PM
I may have broken a new "pedantic" record.

@mootinator Do tell.
^I lol'd

@mootinator That is so many kinds of awesome.

5:25 PM
@mootinator has won the internet for the day. claps

Just so you all know, "WHERE OrderDate >= DATEADD(DAY, -7, OrderDate)" is always true. It's also different from "WHERE OrderDate >= DATEADD(DAY, -7, GETDATE())", which limits your results to the previous 7 days.

Any day I earn a regular clap from @TimStone and not just a slow clap is a good day.

@jadarnel27 OrderDate, today, same thing.

@TimStone Right?! I was seriously just staring at the results of that query for over a minute, wondering why I was getting all the records in the table back.
Something's wrong with my brain =)

Mine dove off the deep end long ago. :P

5:37 PM
I like it.

Am I the only one seeing two "Image not found" blocks?

Apparently.

\o/?

6:19 PM
Hey, Mathematica graduated.

Wow, this revision history really got messed up. O.O

6:35 PM
@PopularDemand Yeah! Design went live yesterday afternoon.

Why does Google translate is destroying my question title?

Q: Can we have a review queue to vote on unvoted posts?

Tom WijsmanSometimes, we spent (quite) some time on a post only to find nobody cares to vote on it in any way. Sometimes, a happy voter to come along and makes you happy; other times, your post is left in the dark. I think that allowing people to vote using a review queue could help in getting people more ...

Does anyone else have any opinions on this?

6:52 PM
@animuson I don't feel strongly about it in either direction. On one hand, I think it could work (especially if it did some kind of filtering, like only showing you unvoted posts in tags where you have at least x upvotes). But, I think your argument is also pretty solid on why it might not be necessary (especially your last paragraph).

I just get tired of counter-arguments to the same person so often. -.- It's like arguing with a wall.

@animuson Unanswered questions with answers might make sense.

I have to admit that took me a moment to process what you were talking about...

A: Keep short history of user display names

jcolebrandBumpity bump bump, why is this status completed? Yes, this is abuse of an answer, but it wouldn't do a great bit of good to do a Q edit, as I'm trying to raise visibility. Shall we resubmit as a new Q? Can we just get a mod to remove status-completed? Keep in mind Jeff's answer says "after the...

@animuson I posted one of my patented rants.

7:03 PM
I think @jcolebrand might be on something =)

@mootinator: which is oft overlooked?

Always

@animuson I get languagey when I rant.
Though the meaning of that sentence isn't actually clear.
It's a rant dammit.

Q: Make the "past names" list public info for 30 days after changing your name

Shog9So this new feature just got rolled out... There's a new numerical field in user profiles called "past names" which when clicked will display a dialog listing previous usernames and when they were last used. That's pretty snazzy. And it almost addresses an issue I brought up a long, long ti...

@Shog9 logic, sheesh, also, it seems to be only self-seen, is it all users?
I have to imagine this guy has recently updated his name ...

7:16 PM
@jcolebrand I was pointing out that that one is not [status-completed]...

@Shog9 Ahhhh

Ok, I think I've included enough rant in that rant. :P

7:41 PM
Rantrantrant.

Muhahaha. You fools have just unleashed upon me the ultimate power: "Create tag synonyms" The world is mine.

Uh oh...

<- Ahahahhaa, I'm unstoppable!

Noo, I'm mellllting.
Who would have guessed it could be turned against me. Aaaaaagh.

7:51 PM
Why on Earth is there actually an tag?

@jadarnel27 It needs a tag wiki. Create. Now.

I would laugh so far if it was created by mootinator :P

Of course not, I prefer the term

@mootinator You got it, dude.

Ha.

7:59 PM
Thanks @jeremybanks. You're a good sport =)

I have to remember to let the dog inside the house in the next 2 hours so she doesn't drown in the rain.

@jadarnel27 Oh gosh, not Full House!

@animuson Yeah, I went there. Get at me, bro.

I'll go The Nanny on your phanny!

After all that time, Grace Note was right. I probably should have just answered with "because Grace Note suspected it was so" and saved myself some time.

8:18 PM
I was wondering where that answer was. Since I'm tired and I trust you, I'm going to just +1 you instead of reviewing all the data. ;P

What other kind of girlfriend is there? — jadarnel27 10 mins ago
Perhaps this positive attitude is why I...don't have a girlfriend =P

8:38 PM
From the sound of it, we're just lucky you haven't been murdered in your sleep.

@TimStone s/we/you

I use @jadarnel27 as a reminder application, so I appreciate his not having been murdered.

@PopularDemand Hurtful.
=)
@TimStone Thank you! ...I think.

9:14 PM
Okay. Got to go drive to a city to replace my power supply now. Joy.
