01:00 - 15:0015:00 - 23:00

3:00 PM
@awoodland Oh, haha. I thought you were abbreviating RadioShack.

@YiJiangsProble_ I think mostly just hit http://api.stackexchange.com/2.0/<route> with ?site=<site>

Ah, I see

@mootinator That timing seems very suspicious though. But I can't imagine there's a whole lot of power coming across the DVI cable, so I agree it's unlikely.

But then you may have to deal with filters and such too, depending on what data's in use.

How about the old StackAuth stuff?

3:01 PM
mm, what was it doing?
Ah, getting associated users.

Obtaining combined network rep and sites participated in I think, I think that may not be available under the new version now

Oh hey it still does, yay

We need to switch to using network IDs for that, because the old association GUID wasn't returning all accounts for some people.

@jadarnel27 capacitors shouldn't be failing even if there were something minor wrong and if there was something major wrong the symptoms would have been more severe than just a capacitor failure which happens all the time

3:03 PM
I think I actually replied to a bug report stating I'd fix that and clearly I dropped the ball, ugh. |:

Yeah, filters. Some of the default ones don't exactly match up to the old ones

@TimStone Don't panic! Blame balpha! (This is your last reminder.)

Oh, right!
blames balpha
He totally should have been reminding me, or something.

Also, reading through the code some of the indentations are off. Why did you change all the tabs to spaces @TimStone? glares angrily

Bwuahaha
I don't remember.

3:07 PM
shakes fist

There was a reason...

@TimStone Excuses excuses!

The reason was specifically that I had changed Notepad++ to use spaces
But I'm trying to remem...Ohh
Because I started poking at PageDown and it uses spaces.

Oh, spaces vs. tabs. Will you ever be solved?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight
You're just trying to blame @balpha again, aren't you?

3:09 PM
Exactly!
@PopularDemand I've decided that spaces win.
Because browsers use 8-space tabs, and that is unacceptable.

@TimStone So configure your damn browser!

I don't think there's an option for that?
I could never find one.

Hmmm, Firefox has one as a CSS property: developer.mozilla.org/en/CSS/-moz-tab-size

@awoodland Maybe I'm think of this all wrong.
I thought the monitor wasn't getting power, because the little "power" light wasn't on (and nothing was showing on the screen). But if you wiggle the power cable around, the little light (and sometimes the screen) flickers on / off. Would a capacitor even cause that problem? Or would it have to be a fuse?

You could just edit the user agent CSS to change it to 4

3:12 PM
pre {
  tab-size: 99; /* Don't use tabs! */
}
3
Ahaha

@TimStone You... you... you're evil

I use Chrome, like a manly man.
Yeah, I get that a lot.

@jadarnel27 wiggles definitely won't be a fuse.

@TimStone No browser is complete without the twenty thousand knobs and lights which you can fiddle around like in about:config

@awoodland Oh. I guess that's either dead or alive, huh?

3:14 PM
For future reference, Webkit may be getting this in the future: bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52994

@jadarnel27 if a capacitor in some power circuitry has (partially) failed and you're right on the edge of the allowed voltages it's not inconceivable that moving might alter things fractionally

@TimStone I just did something like this in Eclipse and Notepad++ two days ago.

(although it could be a faulty connector of course)

So when it lands in Chrome I can go and hack into @TimStone's computer and edit his user agent CSS with tab-size: 0 or something
Which would be very fun to watch

Is there a better way to "announce" a new chat room than mentioning it here and adding a question on meta that mentions it?

3:15 PM
@YiJiangsProble_ Yeah, it's in the CSS 3 Text module now

@MarkHurd maybe those new community bulletin things? - depends why the room was created.

@YiJiangsProble_ :O

Invisi-tabs! Mwahahahahaha

@YiJiangsProble_ about:config is old news. about:robots is where the cool kids hang out.

@PopularDemand Pfft, have you not seen about:mozilla?

3:17 PM
@MarkHurd if the room is associated with a tag it'll appear on the right for questions in that tag I think

@awoodland True. That's part of why I took it apart, I thought the connection where the power cable went in was just loose or something.

Anyway didn't Chrome remove about:robots?

I've created Data Explorer Discussions.
But I didn't do it from the tag.

@MarkHurd Not much point seeing that the Tavern doesn't see much activity already

@YiJiangsProble_ Note to self: sneak about:bobince into the next version....

3:18 PM
We usually talk data explorer stuff here too
@PopularDemand about:jquery and about:table would be amazing

@MarkHurd room admin can change the tags still I think
@MarkHurd - data explorer discussions happen in here semi-regularly

@YiJiangsProble_ Those sound suspiciously like useful resources.

Ooh, magic smoke vent.

Does that one on the bottom look severely broken?

3:21 PM
OK tag added.

I don't know how close to perfect these components need to be, but all of them looked tightly sealed except for that big one.

@jadarnel27 they're not meant to look like that

@jadarnel27 Yes, that's a broken capacitor.

it's not oozing goo, but it's definitely broken

Hahaha, nice. At least I was looking in the right spot then.

3:24 PM
looks like that ought to be user servicable
the writing on the side is what you need to find a replacement, but it's unreadable in that photo

@awoodland I may have a better one. Also, it's still lying on the table at my brother's house, so he could always check it for me =)
I guess this would have been "too localized" to ask on an SE site. I don't even know where it would be on topic.

Q: Announcement: Data Explorer Discussion on Chat

Mark HurdI have created Data Explorer Discussion in Chat. My reason is due to this query for this question.

@jadarnel27 there's an electronics one, but I think they more do design than debugging

Break ALL the CAPACITORS!

@awoodland Ah, neat. Yeah, a cursory look at their faq does not look like it invites this type of question.

3:31 PM
How about "no user serviceable parts" on area51? ;)

@Moshe LOL.

3:44 PM
@TimStone I don't suppose you ever figured out how Java was trolling you, allowing you to beat it at its own game while cackling gleefully?

I did not, unfortunately.

Another thing that I do not suppose is that my previous question would have a different answer if I removed the bit about crazed laughter.

Everything's better with a little crazed laughter.

4:09 PM
I wonder how likely it is that I will injure myself during my first attempt to solder something.

Are you taking bets?

Careful; he won't be effective at administering payouts after he gets injured.

Sure. Preferably in the form of meaningless Internet points!
almost typed pointless Internet points
@PopularDemand Thank you for your confidence =)

Lix
Meaningless?? Humph... whatevs... (* goes to approve some tag wiki edits *)

Oh, snap! Lix toooooold you!

4:20 PM
"...after he gets injured" - not even an "if he gets injured"? Harsh.

Hahah

Lix
lol

Alright, my monkey patching is done

\o/

That was possibly a very subtle jab, since I don't have the rep to approve tag wikis. Well played @Lix.

4:22 PM
It works well enough locally, let's see if it'll work once the server gets it
Erm... what's the password for pushing to Google Code?

Lix
i kid i kid :) But now I was looking at some of the tag wiki's here on meta... might go over them too soon :)

Hang on, I found it
I thought it was my Google account password

Q: Over Optimization Penalty

yur GohilWhat includes in Google’s over Optimization Penalty. And how can recover my ranking and traffics of my site. My one of site (Magento Development) ranking and traffics are down. Give me your experience on this. PHP Development | Magento Development

Feels like spam, really

4:33 PM
It is spam
Flag it as such
Not sure why StackApps has been getting so many of those posts. |:

4:45 PM
One of these days when a code reviewer tells me LINQ isn't readable I'll show them the alternative.

Heh :P

Someone just suggested a tag wiki for . I need a mini-posse to help clean up the two questions currently using that tag; both questions are already at four close votes.
(The same guy submitted content for , but one problem at a time.)

Go Mrozek!
(I was too late)

Argh, that first question is so off-topic there is no appropriate SO tag I can use on it, and the system won't let it sit around untagged.

5:03 PM
Hahah

You enjoy my revision comment, @TimStone?

I did

There are six questions, and at least one of them has zero close votes. Going to have to tackle that later.

I'll see if I can pitch in later...think it's time to go outside for a bit, as my brain is still having a hard time functioning today.

2 hours later…
6:38 PM
Hey @animuson, are you around?

Uh oh, someone's in trouble shakes head Heh. :P

Nah. If he were in trouble I would have struck swiftly and silently.

Ah, I had forgotten you were a ninja.

Disguised as an identicon. That way I blend in with the page background.

A clever tactic

6:52 PM
An identicon is a dead giveaway. I'd use a gravatar.

I saw someone the other day who had a transparent square for their gravatar.
Although I'd like to know how a transparent icon casts a shadow.

@mmyers Does that mean twenty more weeks of summer?

@TimStone I thought Micheal Myers was a mask-wearing, knife-toting, psychopathic murderer. Not a ninja.

@jadarnel27 That's what he wants you to think

Oh, ok.
shudders
looks around nervously

Seehvor_nosaJ

@mmyers: Now I am.

@animuson Are you actually selecting a custom flag and typing in "not constructive" like it looks?

Yes. I do that on old questions which don't get much 3k traffic anymore.
And on too localized questions which no one ever seems to want to vote-to-close.

7:11 PM
Is it not possible to vote and then flag with a standard reason? (I don't actually know the answer)

No, selecting "doesn't belong here" always takes you to the vote-to-close screen once you hit 3,000.

Even if you've already voted? Well, that's a pain.

Meh, it's not like it's a lot to type.
Although "off topic" is 1 character short of the limit, so I always append a period.

I only noticed because usually I don't see NC flags until they're a day or so old

A: Why are some ads on Stack Overflow not written in English?

Joel SpolskyThose are job listings from Careers 2.0. They are targeted to users based on location and tags to make them as relevant as possible. Because the location tagging is imprecise, you may sometimes see job listings from nearby countries where a different language is spoken.

Joel Spolsky swoops in and answers a year-old question =)

7:17 PM
He's going for that badge.
Isn't there a badge for late answers? I don't remember tbh.

Sho is.

Once you accumulate so many badges, you only care about the shiny gold ones.

@animuson Revival!

Not eligible since there was already a +7 answer

Ah, but that one has that "first answer" condition. Too bad.

7:21 PM
Ah, I forgot about that. Silly Josh.

Most Revival badges seem to go to devs. Funny that.

Ugh I don't wanna go to the store. :<

Oh, since you're already going, I do need a few things...

Ha, everyone always makes me go because I walk fast and I know exactly where everything I need is at before I get there. I can get a full cart lad of groceries in like 15 minutes.
Swoosh!
Of course I hate getting cart loads because then they won't let me use the self checkouts.

So, I ordered a CD from CDBaby.com (a place where you can buy awful indie music). I got the best shipping confirmation e-mail ever.
Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.

A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing. Our world-renowned packing specialist lit a local artisan candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy.

We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved "Bon Voyage!" to your packag

7:27 PM
O.O

Somehow I suspect they're exaggerating.

Can they legally say that in a confirmation email? I wouldn't think a company would risk something like that.

But they sure put a lot of effort in that message.

Somehow neither the satin pillow, nor the gold-lined box, made it to me.

Sue the mail service.

7:28 PM
@animuson Who knows. I guess if it's obvious exaggeration like that, maybe it's alright.
@DanielFischer That's a good idea.

I don't think the courts care if it's obvious or not.

I also never sent a picture, so I'm suspicious that they might not have it up on their wall.

Did you use your Gravatar email address?
You should send them some overly exaggerated email in return.

Haha, that's actually a fantastic idea.
@animuson I think so.

27b/6 it up, man!

7:34 PM
27b/6 ??

I don't think I'm 1337 enough to know what that means.

Never heard of that before.

@jadarnel27 Oh, that's going to cost you all of your Internet points.
I'm actually transfering them all to @animuson as we speak.

Ouch. I was going to send my kids to college with those points.
@TimStone Which part costs me the points? Not knowing 27b/6, or using leet-speak? Just so I know. For the future.

7:38 PM
Not knowing 27b/6

Oh. In that case, I'd like to go ahead and tattle on @DanielFischer as well.
4 mins ago, by Daniel Fischer
Never heard of that before.

Yes, we'll have to transfer all of his Internet points over as well.

Surely only Americans must know it?

David Thorne is Australian, so I'm not willing to accept that excuse.

Native speakers?

7:42 PM
He is also officially listed as my Favorite Person on my facts page. :P

@DanielFischer I don't know whether or not that factors in, but I'm feeling generous today, so that would qualify for a 50% reduction in Internet point penalities.

This is hilarious. Goodbye the rest of today's productivity.

Better than nothing, I suppose.
@jadarnel27 My revenge will be merciless!
I will never star one of your messages again.

Oh noes.
Wait.

To him, that's possibly a good thing, given how much he complains all the time about receiving stars.

7:45 PM
No, no, don't question it.

@TimStone =)
@DanielFischer I read you loud and clear.
* wink *

wink wink nudge nudge

Oh, another one of Amazon's impossible-to-open boxes.

Because I have a lazy eye, I can only wink successfully with my left eye. If I wink with my right eye, it looks like I'm having a stroke or something.

Oh my gosh! It pops out at you when you open it! That's new.

7:48 PM
^---That's what she said.
@animuson To be fair, I think I only complained when I was being "mercilessly troll-starred"

Why does my PS3 say it's one hour earlier? o.o

user159773
The latest OS update includes a time machine.

9:01 PM
@animuson Why did you set your timezone to GMT-6 (Saskatchewan)

I figured out that the PS3doesn't automatically switch for DST, apparently it's been wrong for quite some time.

Bully for the PS3, not participating in that nonsense.

Q: Courtesy pings should be deletable by their targets

WTF is a courtesy ping?

You know, when they ping you to tell you that your flight is now boarding.

Never heard the term. But I do think that's an interesting idea, I suppose.

9:10 PM
If it's happening enough for it to be a problem, those comments should just be refused. >_>
That's just...what.
@animuson Ah, of course

Mmm, seasoned cheeseburgers.

I <3 LINQ to XML. That is all.

"Roses are red, violets are blue, And loading screens are white." - I can tell this game is going to be lame.
I was right, this is horribly lame.

What game?

Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time

9:22 PM
I see, hahah

Ok I'm done. On to something else. o.o

9:46 PM
2012-04-26: Stack Exchange is experimenting with automatically following links and might post comments and add them to a list on the /review tab when they are dead. - Ohhh fancy.

Aye

Tim Stone just got 3 badges :o

O_o
So I did

You'll also be getting 3 Enlightened badges because those were all accepted answers as well. ;)
Haha

Hmm
Apparently when you get more than one of the same badge, on the "all" filter for activity it rolls them up into a single entry.
But on the "badges" filter they're separate

9:53 PM
Isn't that good? The actual link there always links to the same page.
I don't see the point in putting three links to the same page in a row.

There's no indication it was three separate events rolled up into one though, which seems a bit off.

Poop, reputation capped. :(

What a horrible fate!

10:19 PM
Has that "votes" tab always been there next to the activity history?

waffles added it the other day
It's been gone for a long time

I see. I saw it there and was like "Oooooh what is this... :O MY VOTES!!!"

Q: Where did the Votes Tab go?

Paolo BergantinoMy profile page used to have a votes tab that showed me what my latest X votes were. It is not there anymore. What happened to it? Why was it removed? I looked everywhere but couldn't find anyone talking about it. I use this often to go back to downvotes and see if they've been edited to fix a pr...

Now let's go flood meta with feature requests on it.
Aha! It does not show questions which you've voted to delete and are now deleted. O.O

Yeah, you very rarely get shown deleted anything.

10:25 PM
Couldn't that be slightly confusing though? "I know I've voted to delete things before, but my votes for deletion page is empty."

Somewhat. But at the moment it's considered better than the alternative, it seems.
