@kylecronin I was runner up in last election, and one of the previous mods wasn't eligible for community mod any more, so I got bumped!

Ahh, because Anna was hired from as a Community Manager she's no longer a Moderator.

@PopularDemand Google translates body as I tell you stupid donkey Dlkh and revision message as This site was destroyed by the U.S. General.

I don't get it.

2:21 AM
@PopularDemand Wow. Just—wow.

@PopularDemand the one that always bugged me was Z having the same value for en_GB and en_US scrabble boards despite the notable differences in frequency of occurrence in the two respective languages
@Cleanupcareerdevelopment probably they think they're a l33t h4x0r :)

Oh god, what is that? A HTML parsing regex?

Good eye.

@mootinator Hey, stop trying to open the portal to hell with your black magic.

Mwa ha ha.

2:17 PM
You're too late, @TimStone the summoning has already begun!

NOOOO!
I have not had coffee yet this morning, that is disappointing.

Ooh, coffee good idea.

Right, first a coffee, then opening the portal to hell. Sounds like a plan. :D

Gotta have priorities

I have 22GB of files I don't really want to pay Amazon for JungleDisk to keep so I can't actually access them. Suggestions? Throw it on a 32GB USB key, toss the key in a safe and hope for the best if I ever need them?
That almost sounds like a question the SE network has probably already answered 100x somewhere.

I accidentally 22GB of files once. Is that dangerous?

Did you eat them or what?
If you ate them then yes, it is not healthy to eat data.

Bits are highly toxic.

@TheUnicornWhisperer I accidentally 22 GB of files. It's a meme =)

Right, my statement still applies. Don't eat data. After all you're not a Tumblr monster.
Granted they ate an entire data center but still.

2:46 PM
Hahahahaha. Indeed =) They don't look particularly healthy either.

Q: Asset and resources for Android

Muhammad Nabeel ArifI am looking for some android assets and resources to use into my applications, so that during development I can have development resources. It was a bit difficult for me to collect these type of resources. I have found two of them. Please provide me links of resources and assets for android. I ...

This would be the place to go if the guy was looking for close votes =)

I tried to reason.. at least he's willing to take my "suggestion" under advisement.. poor sap :)

5:23 PM
I am now the proud owner of the last potato knish left in the freezer.

5:54 PM
Gosh ... there was an awesome question about question title with an even more awesome answer but I can't find it ...

A unicorn ate my knish.

Should I talk to him?

Well, actually, perhaps I ate my knish.
In that case...

1. A unicorn ate my knish.
2. I ate my knish.
3. Hence, I am a unicorn.

6:05 PM
Well then I'm already talking to one.

This was a bit unnecessary stackoverflow.com/questions/9037635/…
@Moshe Congrats!

@jadarnel27 Lol.
Just using some good ol logic there.
Not sure that a unicorn indeed ate the knish though. I'm 99% sure that my conjecture is a lie.

@jadarnel27 I almost flagged that offensive instead of NAA

@jadarnel27 Also, I'm not real up to date on my hindi, but I bet what the OP wrote wasn't nice =)

Oh no, not again.

6:09 PM
If it were true, I'd be part of the 1% and a unicorn.
Seeing as it's probably not true, well, there goes both badges of honor.

@jadarnel27 that's pretty close to what I wrote in my flag on that comment :)

But I'm in the top 3% on StackOverflow, so yay for that.
@awoodland I don't see any hindi there

@Moshe phonetically spelled on one of the comments on the now deleted NAA
Oh wait, it's gone too

Yea, I see that answer, comment is gone.
I won't miss it.

@Moshe How do you figure?
Oh god ... never mind.
Yes, I'm in the top 3% as well.

6:15 PM
@Moshe It said "tari to hu joi laish"

Anonymous
@TheUnicornWhisperer Where's that displayed, now? I don't see it in the profile anymore.

Anonymous
@TheUnicornWhisperer Ah, thanks.

@awoodland That's funny, I flagged it with a custom message "This is unecessary and rude, in addition to being "Not an Answer"" =)

@jadarnel27 Why do you know Hindi by the way?

6:18 PM
@jadarnel27 I ended up flagging the question with that and the comment separately

@TheUnicornWhisperer I don't, but the context implied that it was probably not nice. I would be interested to know what it means if anyone in here knows Hindi =)
@TheUnicornWhisperer I wonder what makes the difference between it saying "overall" and "this month" or "this week". Mine says "Top 6% this month", for instance.

Well you are in the top 6% of this months ranking.

google translate couldn't get it

Anonymous
@jadarnel27 I think it picks whichever's largest.

There are multiple rankings. Per week, per month and overall.

6:22 PM
@Cleanupcareerdevelopment Ohhh, that jives with my experience.
If by "largest" you mean "best" (the smallest number) =)

@Cleanupcareerdevelopment largest accomplishment?

Q: Why does the "top X%" in my profile change frequently between week/month/all time?

ibzThe "top X%" counter based on reputation displayed in my user profile seems to be changing between "this month", "this week", and "all time". Why is that? Is there any way that I can toggle between those?

@TheUnicornWhisperer Oh, right. I've got that. I was just wondering how it chooses between which one it shows on my profile

Anonymous
@Moshe Ah... right, that's it. :P

@Cleanupcareerdevelopment Fantatsic, thanks for clearing that up =)
Sorry for derailing whatever conversation might have been going on here.

6:26 PM
Well the narrower the scope, the more interesting it is. If you manage to get enough reputation that you score an interesting position in the per month list then it chooses that one, if you score a better result in the per week list it chooses that one and if you are not in a good position in either of them then it takes the overall I think.

I think we were talking about Moshe's unicorn status.

Well, let's all go ahead and upvote this guy. Landed on SO and helped me out. The user had one rep.

@TheUnicornWhisperer That makes perfect sense, thanks man (and is actually a bit clearer than the meta post).

Solid answer too, btw.
I have conclusively concluded that I am a human, therefore not unicorn.

6:30 PM
@jadarnel27 If it is correct, that is. :D
Oh my god! I want it!

6:44 PM
That was kind of strange. I created an account on the Graphic Design SE site, which was of course linked with my other accounts. That site started me at 101 rep, as expected. But my main SO account also got a +100 boost. I've had that one for a while now, I can't imagine it's never gotten a boost before (the How Does Reputation Work question says once per site).
I thought it might have been a coincidence from a re-calc or something, so I triggered a re-calc and it went back down (even lower... frowny face).
Not sure if it was a bug, and I'm not inclined to go around making a bunch of accounts on sites I'll never use just to test it.

7:20 PM
Very weird. I've never had that happen. Sounds like a

At the very least, now I know that my main SO account has, at one point, received that bonus. So if it ever happens again then it's definitely a bug (or at least an ambiguity on the How Does Reputation Work question).

Q: Style thieves in the media?

Tomalak Geret'kalI found this familiar looking voting widget on http://metro.co.uk (actually http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/876039-man-claims-140-year-old-photo-proves-nicolas-cage-is-a-vampire): c.f. Q: Android SDK, which OS am I better of with?

AnPelFirst of all, before asking my question, let me clarify that I do not intend to start a discussion about which OS is a better choice. I am considering writing an application for android, and I see that the SDK is available under Windows, and under Linux. My system is a dual boot system, so I ca...

I'm referring to the not useful comment.

@TheUnicornWhisperer I agree, I think that comment is pretty out of line.
It's certainly not harmful to point it out and ask if that is infringement.
Those buttons do look exactly the same.

On the other hand I should have known better since I have seen that the user is from Vienna.
@MarvinPinto Voted to close and left a comment.
Also flagged for deletion.

@TheUnicornWhisperer Yeah I downvoted as well - I'm out of flags which is why I brought it up here :p
@TheUnicornWhisperer I bet you wish there was a vote to close/delete/purge option now huh..

8:49 PM
@TheUnicornWhisperer I would expect more tolerance from a unicorn whisperer =)

I don't really care to be honest. I did all I could to help him understand why his question is going to be closed so he can learn from his mistake and not do it again.
I can't do more than that.
A lot of people don't even bother to go that extra mile. :)

Actually, "is there a difference between the Windows and Linux versions of the SDK" seems like a valid programming question to me.
I would guess that there isn't a difference -- I don't know for sure -- but if there were, it would have a pretty significant impact on the whole development process.

@TheUnicornWhisperer Haha, I was referring to the "On the other hand I should have known better since I have seen that the user is from Vienna." comment.

@PopularDemand Hmm.. sounds like a "best of" question to me.. :)

It's a valid question worded in a way that makes it seem invalid.

8:52 PM
It is the best option here part plus everything necessary is explained on that very page where he can download the SDK. :)

@PopularDemand I'd agree with that and the answers seem to support that too

Also, what the answer says is not entirely true either. You can use Cygwin on Windows to do that.

So the funniest thing just happened, this user and myself had a brief disagreement, at which point I did the civilized thing and bowed out of the post (deleting all comments/etc so I won't be notified), and I magically get 3 of my answers downvoted in the row! love it!!

We have such an amount of crap in the Android tag, it is unbelievable.

@Moshe They sent you a laptop?

Man, why can't everybody else have these kind of programs Microsoft does...

Microsoft once set me a copy of Visual Studio 2005 for watching a few webinars.

Yea, Google should have that program as well and send me a Galaxy Nexus.

@TheUnicornWhisperer So I keep hearing. I'm looking forward to wading through that now that I own an Android phone....

To be fair they did give every GoogleIO participant a Galaxy Tab 10.1 this year. That means about 1000 devices. Google and Samsung.
@PopularDemand I have our Android tag office hours in about two minutes in the SO chat.

Oh no, I'm going to be beaten by Popular Demand!

8:59 PM
"Office hours"?
@TimStone Just until your morale improves.

Yea, we meet on chat and discuss the way we could organize to improve the quality of the Android tag.
That is the plan.

@TimStone ... "Unfortunately, Words Free has stopped." Crashing my phone doesn't mean you win!

@TheUnicornWhisperer I think google sent my employer (a university) some really early android phones a few years back to try and encourage developers amongst the student population

Haha, wow. Check out this "Edit Summary" note: stackoverflow.com/revisions/9039838/3

I am curious how you managed to generate an... infinite loop? SQL injection? in seven or fewer alphabetic characters, though.

9:04 PM
@jadarnel27 I've always resisted the urge to answer "can anyone explain X?" with "yes, several people can"

@PopularDemand Tim's got skillz.

Anonymous
He also knows the magic word.

@Cleanupcareerdevelopment I should hope not. That's not a valid word.

@PopularDemand It does if it causes you to forfeit!

@awoodland Ha, I now I will have to resist the urge as well =)

9:06 PM
@jadarnel27 I thought that might be what the comment in question was when I read the edit though

@PopularDemand The outcome where I lose is considered an exception condition by the game.

9:25 PM
@TimStone Oh, there it is in the store section. "Remove ads permanently: $4.99 / Word strength meter: $2.99 / Non-zero probability of drawing reasonable letters when opponent is Tim Stone: $9.99"

Oh wow, nicely done.

Thank you. It wasn't easy.
@TheUnicornWhisperer Good luck with that. I hope you have at least four comrades, because past attempts to form cleanup posses have not exactly met with resounding success.
Close votes decay after four days. If someone else adds a vote to close, the timer is reset.

9:42 PM
@PopularDemand Putting effort into it over a longer period of time will work (at least I hope so). I have to work on spreading the word though.
Oh. Thanks. :)

There's a pair of efforts underway right now that has stalled out. A lot of questions got three close votes and then... nothing.

@TheUnicornWhisperer You could always spread the word by changing your display name. Some people seem to think that's cool =P (I'm looking at you @Cleanupcareerdevelopment)

That is what I've been doing on Meta already, my name was Octavian Damiean before. :D

@TheUnicornWhisperer You're spreading the word about cleaning up the Android tag by calling yourself the Unicorn Whisperer? I don't grok that logic =)

Well, on all other sites I still have my official name and I don't plan to change it.
Meta is different.

10:29 PM
@PopularDemand It's also worth mentioning—as you know—that close votes do not expire when a question has 100 views or less
