Does @Shog9 visit this chat?

@kiamlaluno Yeah

@TimStone Thank you. I had a question about a congratulation email sent me.
Here is the only place where I can see SE valued associates. :-)
I was still in time to correct my post. Thank me for that.

Q: I can vote for tag synonyms, but I don't have a single post in that tag

GillesThe tag synonym list on Stack Overflow offers udf as one of the tags I can vote synonyms to. Well, I did have one post in that tag, but since 20 days ago I have none (the tag had been misapplied to that one question; note that it hadn't been present in the original revision either). It looks li...

OK, I am blind. There is even a starred post from @Shog9.
Does this mean I can get a dog free, one for blind people?

12:52 AM
@kiamlaluno 'sup

@Shog9 Hiya. I was just curious about the email for the congratulations on being an active user on Drupal Answers, which ends with a "if you have the time and desire to contribute as a Community Moderator Pro Tempore." I guess the email is automatic, or the text is standard. :-)

@kiamlaluno I sent it to all first-page users on the site. I suppose that might have been a bit confusing / irritating to some users... ;-0

@Shog9 It was not irritating at all. Actually, that part made me laugh.

@kiamlaluno Ah, well... Good!

I mean, the part about being a moderator pro tempore. I don't think I am welcome to try again. ;-)

12:59 AM
Well, probably not in the near future. Of course you're welcome to run in the election once the site graduates (assuming you meet qualifications and such)
I do home someone responds though. Site needs another moderator. Drupal people and their "working"

Yeah, considering that actually there is just a moderator who does something.
The other one doesn't even answer to questions on the main or the meta site.

sighes

If I did too much, he is doing nothing at all.

tsk tsk

Oh well, in my case it was also my way to answer in some cases that was not liked, but I don't like when somebody who doesn't participate on the site comes to down-vote my proposals or answers on the meta, when he doesn't care enough about the site to actively partecipate.
Let's see if I can find any spam on this site. :-)

1:11 AM
@kiamlaluno Well, that's... a learning experience I guess. I've seen people do worse!

Here comes one, put with the usual trick "I have a question about my site XYZ." Yeah, the problem is the site is not running Drupal. What can he ask about Drupal?
@Shog9 Does that include also the "you deleted all the tags from my questions" part? ;-)
Yeah, right. How can I remove all the tags from a question on meta? I thought it was an Italian habit to exaggerate. I removed the "promotion" tag, and he talks of "removed all the tags."

Ah, this would be the "version tag" fiasco

@Shog9 May you report me if you get my email? It's not a reply; it's just the email you sent me.

@kiamlaluno Hmmm?

@Shog9 That is another irritating thing. At the end, there is no "drupal-6" or "version-6" tags, but it's was me to shame for, when I understood before the others that such tags were not going to be kept.
@Shog9 I am not sure if there are problems with the email I send to the @stackexchange.com address (not that I sent a lot of those emails). I sent once emails to prove I am not a different user, but I didn't get any reply back. I was wondering if my emails are going through.

1:23 AM
@kiamlaluno Oh. Those went to Jeff

@Shog9 Oh, so they arrived.

@kiamlaluno Yes. There was... a long discussion.

Hehe! Imagine here. I was accused I merged the accounts.
My most significant one didn't take well the fact her account has been merged with mine. She told me I should do anything to get her account back.
Should I say fiancé?
She is American, but she has a hard head as an Italian.

Well, I gotta tell ya... I've seen one person get away with cross-account voting, and... Well, the system was designed around coming down hard on that, regardless of extenuating circumstances.

She told me she has not voted me, if not few times.

1:32 AM
Yeah, well... Data sez otherwise. What's done is done, live and learn.

If she voted me constantly, I would have about 3170 points more, now. As it didn't happen, then I guess she didn't vote 10% of my questions on SO, which she didn't frequent at all. :-)

> @raven, I figured that was the counter to my request - in this case it was basically to give a little appreciation to the answer that was not really better or worse than the one I checked. I assume the whole thing is in the prevention of spam bots, and the low timeout makes using captcha irrelivant.. – Gabriel 1h ago
The system worked!

Q: If the discussion has been moved to chat, what am I supposed to do?

kiamlalunoIt's the second time that I note the following flag, in the page to review flags. If the discussion has been moved to chat, what am I supposed to do? Does the flag means the discussion should be moved to chat, and I have to vote, or take a decision, about that?

Q: How do I define a $_POST variable where the field name included a question mark?

PlanetburgessOne of the fields in my form is Do You Have a Job Offer? I have edited the post data into an array $form_data using this code if (get_magic_quotes_gpc()) { $unescaped_post_data = stripslashes_deep($_POST); } else { $unescaped_post_data = $_POST; } $form_data = json_decode($unescaped_post_da...

I'm at a loss for words.

@TimStone Maybe he comes from Ruby. :-)

1:46 AM
I make fun of Ruby often enough, but not even I am willing to believe that such a thing is good practice there either. :P

@TimStone Well, in Ruby you should use the ? or the ! when it is correct.
In Ruby is perfectly fine to have a method called "exists?"

Huh, I see.

Then, a method like "copy!" has the exclamation point to mean the method alter the properties of the object for which is invoked.
If the method is "copy," then it creates a new object.
The question mark is for methods that query the object status.
"is_bool()" would be "bool?" in Ruby.

Interesting, I actually had no idea of that

@Shog9 What would happen if she creates another account?
@TimStone Ruby is cool, in some of its features.
I actually prefer Ruby 1.9, though.
Now, if Mac OS X came with it, that would be a happy thing. :-)
Another three pages, and I am done with this spam hunting.

2:09 AM
Here comes the last page of comments.

1 hour later…
3:27 AM
@kiamlaluno If there's no cross-voting, no problems.

@Shog9 By cross-voting, do you mean she votes me, and I vote her?

Either/or
(btw: fair warning - don't ask me hard question, I've been drinking for like 5 hours now ;-)
And BTW: married to a wife of Italian ancestry... goood luck

Just to understand, what happens when somebody is voting a work colleague?

@MichaelPetrotta Did someone just suggest you should ask more questions so when people ragedown-vote you they'll have more targets to trip the abuse detector? :D

if you do it often enough they will suspect you two to have the same account and merge and tempban
maybe

3:31 AM
@kiamlaluno Since you've been a mod, you should know the specifics, so I'll just say... In moderation, no problem. in moderation

@Shog9 Thank you. :-) I don't have problems with the Italian ancestry, as I am Italian. The problem is with the American side in her. ;-)

@kiamlaluno There is no American side. It's always something else... As a pure, Red Blooded American, I'll be the first to tell you there are no Americans.

@Shog9 Fair enough, but there is something I would classify as American way of thinking.

@kiamlaluno Yeah, there's certainly that. And again I say... Gooood luck

I find funny being asked if I did anything against Hebrews during WWII, when I say I was born in 1970.

3:36 AM
@kiamlaluno Thanks - now I feel like a kid.

"Yeah, I invented the time machine, and went back in time to kill people during WWII."

(that happens less and less these days)

@Shog9 It's just a difference of 10 years; you could feel teenager, if much. :-)

Heh... Like it matters on SE. I could tell you a funny story, but this is public sorta; nevertheless, you'll catch a hint in a couple weeks.

3:41 AM
@jcolebrand Aaah!

@mootinator ?

If I am good in catching hints. I don't know why, but people keep thinking I am more than I am. :-)

@kiamlaluno Who asked you that?

@jcolebrand HE'S GOING TO TURN INTO A ZOMBIE!!!!

So, instead of a new iMac, I have a DisplayPort adapter and now a wireless keyboard/ mouse set up.

3:43 AM
@Moshe That is what they ask in the I-94W form, when I go in the USA with the "Visa wave" program.

\O/

/O\

Maybe they didn't ask me to fill the form, last time.

/O/

\O\
Someway, I feel part of a club.

3:45 AM
lol

"Arms up, this is a robbery!"

> they were forever known as the waving arms dancers. Now children, off to bed with you

Oh, that is a different club. I didn't read well what the sign at the door says.
<O>
OK, can anybody tell me what I am supposed to do with the "Comment discussion moved to chat" flag?
Is there a "back in time" button? :-)

no, you just make sure they are civil

@jcolebrand Yes, but the comment discussion has been already moved; marking the flag as invalid, or flagging as "not an answer" doesn't make sense.
Therefore, why should I be presented that flag to review, with the usual dialog for flagging review?

3:58 AM
idk, ask on meta?
I thought you weren't a mod anymore

@jcolebrand Yeah, but I am still a 17k user. :-)

ahhh

I was hoping I missed something about that. :-)

TIL that I'm a special case.

I've always been a special case ;) (or at least a little bit special)
@MichaelPetrotta FWIW I disagree vehemently with Rick

4:11 AM
I disagree too, whoever Rick is.

Thanks :) I'm not really sure what Rick is saying there.

Q: Check for revenge voting directed against question closers

Michael PetrottaI'm a high-rep user on Stack Overflow. I shouldn't care overmuch about downvotes directed my way. In general, I don't, except: I've asked only two questions; against hundreds of answers. A single user can downvote all my questions without triggering (as far as we know) the vote fraud algorithms. ...

I'd thought you were being too hard on him, but maybe he does mean "special" as... "special".

me being too hard on someone on meta?

Oh, that Rick. I was thinking of Ricky Martin.

I cant believe he can look at your name and spell it wrong

4:14 AM
Hey! I can spell wrong even my name.

Happens more than you'd think.

nah, that's just one of my pet peeves after spending time on chat.meta and chat.se/mod

It's not that hard to write Michael: Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael.

since all the Michaels are spelled @Michael (see what I did there? ;P )

@MichaelMrozek appears in 3...2...1...

4:19 AM
> @jcolebrand: Whoa, whoa. I didn't downvote the question or say Michael doesn't deserve those votes. Of course he does. I was just speculating on how the idiots got away with it in his case. – Rick Sladkey 1 min ago

yeah, saw that. and how dare you answer a question about an English word on... English Language and Usage.

I know! ffs, wtf was I thinking? OMG BBQ! even

Now I feel bad.

It is better I run, before I get killed.

4:23 AM
well, that's always a good tactic, regardless the situation.

@MichaelPetrotta Because I do answer on EL&U. :-)

EL&U hasn't seen a fatality, yet. Now, math and physics, on the other hand...

Doh, now I understood to which @MichaelPetrotta the previous posts were directed. :-)
I was wondering why people kept posting messages to a person who was not present.
@MichaelPetrotta It's a good tactic if you have to pay dinner too.
If you are with your fiancé, then that is not a good tactic (I think).

You can test her mettle. Or her running pace.

I will try the next time.
Being 6'2", I should run faster than she does.

4:33 AM
I'm digging playing with a Macbook recently. A whole new OS, with cool stuff around every corner.
Nicely built machines, too.

@MichaelPetrotta Wait to use Mac OS Lion.
Oh, maybe that is what you called "new OS."

@kia
@kiamlaluno: I meant OS X in general. Still running 10.6 now.

Oui?

(slip of the keyboard, that was)
I haven't spent any quality time with Macs since OS9. I was surprised how inspired by iOS even 10.6 is.

The 10.7 has also the launchpad the iOS has.
You can even put applications together in a kind of folder as you do with the iOS 4.

4:40 AM
Though Xcode looks so creepily like iTunes.

I wonder why. ;-)
It must that green widget on top of the window.
Sometimes I expect a song title to appear there.
"Metallica. Smoke on the water."

That would be a good song, for Xcode.
They could include it with Xcode, even.

5:03 AM
(Now I am going a bit too far.)

Q: Rework [wcf-service] and [wcfservice]

abatishchevCurrently wcf-service (23) is not a synonym to wcfservice (988). Please add. Also I think that wcf-service should be main, and wcfservice - synonym. Thanks.

Q: Merge [.net-generics] into [generics]?

abatishchevIs .net-generics really required? Should it be merged into more general generics, with appropriate synonym added?

Q: The single tag for Office Open XML

abatishchevCurrently on SO I found more the one tag for Office Open XML: ooxml (76), openxml (341), office-open-xml (0 so far). Also Wikipedia lists all of them: Office Open XML (also informally known as OOXML or OpenXML) .. Maybe merge all answers into the single one?

Morning :)

@MichaelPetrotta :(

5:59 AM
sigh i have this userscript that works in chrome
but it's not working in firefox
if I throw an alert above the code that doesn't seem to be running, the alert fires, and the code that follows appears to run correctly
take alert away, it fails

What's the code look like?

and it works in chrome
so if I add a setTimeout and defer the execution for 100ms
then it works

Hmm

yeah...seems odd, no?

Try using StackExchange.ready() instead of $()
The editor is prepared on the fly, and it's possible that Firefox puts the userscript too quick on the draw somehow.
If you defer until after the site's components are guaranteed to have finished loading, maybe it'll be less iffy.

6:12 AM
same effect

Ah, well it was a thought. Let's poke at it..

which firefox version you are using

4.0.1
upgrading now
so add 5.0
*at 5.0
no change

Ask on StackOverflow,may get an answer

I assume StackExchange.ready() takes a function
...not seeing any errors in FireBug
using $(window).load(...) seems to fix it
still pretty odd, don't you think?

6:19 AM
Yeah, that doesn't make much sense.

crap, that fixes ffox
but breaks chrome

I mean "not getting actually what you want to know?"
You have any idea who is this person?
I think it is a sock-puppet account for irregular voting
It is my account.

Would the Indian speaking people help me out with some translation stuff? I know the meaning of chup (probably it is only one meaning or depends on the context I don't know) which I was thought means something like silent or shut up. Now what does the Oye in front of it mean?

@OctavianDamiean chup is generally keep quite/ silent, oye is... Oy!

Oh, I see. Thanks :)

HTTP referrer?
How will I implement HTTP referrer in iPhone/Android/Blackberry app?

Implement what?

I want to launch an app from browser of device
I did and got a success in it
but now the requirement is to get back to last visited page in browser,I don't know much about http response
if 200 ok response is received then no issues but if 401 unauthorised response is received then show a alert

I'm quite certain that there is a method in that class which returns the referrer. You'll have to read the documentation of that class you are using there.

but now how would I get back to last visited page on browser of mobile from my app?
I am looking into it.

10:10 AM
Hopefully not.

Meego & chroma?
I heard Nokia was launching with Meego.
Do anyone has knowledge of it?

It doesn't really launch with it.
It has only one product on the market with MeeGo and one upcoming product which features MeeGo.

Development will be in C++?
and any idea of Chroma?

How are they related?

both are Intel based I think so
Actually I had a call from Intel to attend the conference on MeeGo and Chroma.

10:37 AM
Yes :)

Any cooking aficionados in here with a knack for physics?

Q: Cooling jelly without a refrigerator

PekkaI have a pint of fruit juice, and some Gelatin. I want to make a fruit jelly for after dinner, which will be in 8 hours. Living in the city with a vegetable shop around the corner, I do not have a refrigerator. It is however cold and rainy, and from experience, 6-7 hours on the windowsill will ...

@Manjot This makes absolutely no sense at all.

@Pekkasseriousaccount Woah, how could you not live with a fridge?

@OctavianDamiean I don't know much about it.I was just wondering and searching on Google about MeeGo and Chroma what are they and how are they related.

Anyway, wild idea - place it in a water bath

10:43 AM
I can tell you how they are related. None at all.
@Pekkasseriousaccount liquid nitrogen :D
That'd be a geeky solution.

@OctavianDamiean What is Chroma btw?

@OctavianDamiean LN2 for the win.

@Pekkasseriousaccount Purchase some ice from outside :D
Put some salt on Ice so that it melts slowly :)

Q: Chat's having a seizure while scrolling

Yi JiangA video is worth a thousand words: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1722364/out.ogv [20mb .ogv file] This occurs on Firefox 5, usually after a few messages were posted in my absence. @RobinHood did you read that page?

@Hogan He was rather looking for a Human-to-StackExchange interface.

@OctavianDamiean which in your case is a human-to-google interface
@RobinHood if there is a specific question you asked that got downvotes or closed and you want to know why, I can help explain why -- just give me a link.
<--- Human to meta-stackoverflow-think interface

how long till the interface breaks down, I wonder

11:34 AM
well it break down right now for about 10 mins... I have to do something away from the computer... but I will be back
@RobinHood - pick one... I can only deal in a single question at a time.

RobinHoodright now doing R&D on AIDL (android interface definition language) but not get much about that, will someone explain me in short & in simple way with example.

@RobinHood oh I don't waste my time. I manage my time well, tyvm.

Can anyone else repro that seizure @YiJiang has been filming? In particular, anyone without userscripts etc.?

@balpha nopes. /// I'm on Chrome, so that doesn't count

Same here, plus I use the userscripts. But I can try at home in a few hours.

updating FF to 5
no repro on FF5 @balpha. I don't have chat userscripts installed though

What is repro?

to reproduce

11:45 AM
@Manjot reproduction. unable to reproduce the problem.

LOL
How can one reproduce seizure?

facepalm imminent in 3...2...1...

It is reproducing a bug ... obviously.

but Why one reproduce a bug?

Because that is step one in debugging something.

11:49 AM
Is it so? or you are making fun of me :(

That is the truth, no sarcasm.
If you don't believe and it doesn't make sense to you then I recommend this book.
It is a great book on debugging software projects.

But Why would people reproduce bugs?

facepalm

double facepalm

facepalm

Without being disrespectful but are you sure you are in the right business if it doesn't make sense to you?

wat is this i dont even

trolololol...

Octavian saying people reproduce bugs

I'm asking because debugging is one of the most basic things a software engineer needs to understand.

11:54 AM
How could it possible?

In order to fix something you have to see the problem -- thus the need to reproduce the bug. Then you can fix it.

People having list of bugs to solve then why would they reproduce bugs.

No, they would reproduce, not generate them.
1 min ago, by Hogan
In order to fix something you have to see the problem -- thus the need to reproduce the bug. Then you can fix it.

I usually use breakpoints to fix the issues :)
Is it mandatory to reproduce bugs to fix the issues?

how do you fix without knowing what the bug is and where it occurs?

11:59 AM
Without knowing bug! When there is bug you will get to know and fix it simple and if there is no bug then no need to fix it :D
