@badp, my # is match for your $ any day :)

meh, I only barely used jQuery, enough to not be eligible for the ritual

Jez
guys, could someone take a look at this? meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/79641/…
i think there's a bug with the StackExchange code, I just can't get my browser (s) to login to chat.stackexchange.com

@Jez, I can connect ok in any case.

1:32 PM
what what
So I see that Rich (geochet) didn't make it a full day. Unfortunately I'm not around when everything happens so I don't get to see the flaming wreckage. sigh
(Yes, I'm a rubbernecker...)

heh I missed out on the troll feeding myself. :)

hrm
How did he even have a chance to do something to get suspended? Hes got no unusual activity.

Jez
benjol: some weird problem with my StackExchange account... maybe

@Jez team@stackoverflow.com

@Pollyanna et al, from what I gather he didn't actually come back. Some script reactivated his account, and Jeff had to suspend it again (or something like that)

1:39 PM
@Benjol wrong

GEOCHET explains his position

yesterday, 24 minutes total – 69 messages, 3 users, 3 stars

Bookmarked yesterday by The Renamed Exception

@badp, ok, weird. I'm sure I read something like that. Maybe it was the badge thing, I thought they were related

that's not what got him suspended I guess, but it's proof he did use his account.

@Benjol No, his one year ban expired officially on or about february 4th.
I don't think that's the right date, though
I just remember knowing it was the beginning of February, 2011.

@badp Huh, how did that happen
Was he unsuspended for long enough so that @drachenstern can get an exclusive interview with him

Yeah
He got 3k rep while suspended apparently

1:43 PM
Oh well. At least I got to see Evan's wreckage, so that should hold me for awhile. Is there anyone else with a year ban aside from Rich and Evan?

@badp Probably because of the account merge or something

Posts continue to accrue votes during a ban, but they don't show up as reputation increases until the ban ends.

@Pollyanna I missed that, where, where?! :)

Had I known that line of questioning would've been s discussed post I would've pressed more :/

@Benjol I'm speculating wildly. The ban only sets the reported reputation to 1. It doesn't erase the posts, nor make them community wiki.
@drachenstern What line of questioning?

1:46 PM
@Pollyanna, no, I meant "Evan's wreckage"

The bookmark above Benjol

Morning everyone

@TheRenamedException mornin'

@drachenstern What bookmark? I'm missing something, that's RichB isn't it?

If you say so Josh

1:49 PM
@drachenstern ?

@Benjol Oh, yeah. I don't know if I can find it again. It's one deleted question he posted. Kind of a long rantish post about how he somehow was able to log back in ans wasn't sure if his ban was actually up or if he managed to break stackoverflow. Seemed to have something to do with a facebook link or openid. Either way it was interesting, and deleted quickly with a new ban.

...yeah, but he got again unbanned after that

ban unban ban ban unban, sounds like a song... :)

Gee I wonder what we could be talking about now, LOL

@TheRenamedException BTW, did you ever figure out if you owe me an email?

1:52 PM
@rebeccaChernoff oy! (re: eating canned chili)

@GeorgeMarian Bah! I am so bad with that, I apologize!

@TheRenamedException Unfortunately, I missed that excitement. Though, I did get to live it vicariously thanks to the transcript.

Things got crazy here, yes I have a half-composed reply to your last email to me; I will try to finish that today

@TheRenamedException No worries. Just figured I'd follow up. :)

@GeorgeMarian It wasn't anything spectacular, just responding to your responses :-)
But yes I will send today

1:54 PM
Heh...Like I said earlier, I wasn't actually expecting a response to that email :)

Was the ability to search for deleted questions removed? Right after the switch to lucene we were allowed to do that, but it looks like that's no longer the case? Anyone know?

@TheRenamedException Darn. Here I was hoping you were going to let me in on your plans for world domination. ;)

hello hello

@GeorgeMarian shhhhh! We don't talk about hose publicly!!! ;-)

I find it absolutely amazing how people post an answer which basically just rephrases your answer haha

1:56 PM
@GeorgeMarian Unless your name is Pinky, he's not going to share his plans of world domination with you. If it is Pinky, then you'll have to wait until nightfall for the reveal.

@OctavianDamiean How do you think I got all my rep. haha
;-)

I mean seriously check this question out please ... it is hilarious

Q: Trying to dynamically add a TextView to a ScrollView crashes when using an XML layout

Mark BiekThis is a very simple example where I have a single ScrollView defined in R.layout.main. Then I try to dynamically add a TextView to it. Unfortunately this crashes. ScrollView scroll = (ScrollView) this.findViewById(R.id.scrollView1); TextView tv1 = new TextView(this); tv1.setText("This is tv...

Morning.

Some people take 5 minutes to post their answer, so while it's possible they read your answer then re-wrote it, it's also likely they just posted the same answer because they knew it, and it took them a bit longer than you.

1:59 PM
I mean ok the one who posted one minute after me thats ok as that might just be because he hasn't noticed the message that there is an answer already but whats about the other guys?

Jez
Please follow/support my new StackExchange proposal: area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/29480/french-language

@Jez That's apparently a dupe
44
Le bon usage du français [French usage]

Proposed Q&A site for people who have questions regarding the correct use of the French language, whether spoken or written. It is not about translating. Questions can be submitted in English or in French.

Currently in defintion.

@Jez you're from the Pirate Party in the UK?

@Jez Wouldn't it have been better to modify the exiting proposals, rather than starting a new one and suggesting the others be closed as dupes of the new one?

I thought they were going for english only proposals?
If this were Quebec, wouldn't the french have to be on top of the english?

2:01 PM
My iphone is giving me audible alerts for calendar events when I've got the mute switch on. I've even rebooted it and it's still doing it. sigh

@Pollyanna there is a fix for that
throw it against a wall as hard as you can
or burn it with fire

@GeorgeStocker The proposal for french is an english site about the french language, so it's ok.
@OctavianDamiean That sort of worked. Now it doesn't make the noises anymore, but it also doesn't show my daily activities (or much of anything else). How do I undo your fix?

@Pollyanna thats very easy ... get yourself a decent Android device

Jez
I can't modify the existing proposals
i didn't propose them
also, which should be modified and kept?

2:08 PM
@Jez You can comment on them
@Jez I vote the one with the most followers

@OctavianDamiean Heh. Android isn't "there" yet. Plus I develop for iOS and android - I have the iphone, my wife has the android, and I needn't purchase additional equipment to support both platforms.

Q: iPhone calendar alerts are not muted when vibrate switch is on

Adam DavisI leave my iPhone in vibrate mode all the time. The switch still works (when I switch it the iPhone shows the ringer on/off notice). This morning it started alerting me for calendar alerts with both vibration and audible chimes. Note that I'm NOT talking about clock/timer alarms. I've rebooted...

Jez
hmm that's the 'English/French Translation' one

If you know something that might help, please chime in! (or vibrate in, if that's your thing)

Jez
trouble is, that seems to be rather firmly entrenched as a translation thing
not really discussing correct french usage
modifying it would be changing it fundamentally

Ahhhh. I see
Wasn't there one that was much closer to a duplicate?

Jez
2:11 PM
the less popular one?
well that's closer, i guess. but it's entrenched in the other direction
some are even saying you should only ask questions in French. it's not analogous to the German/Italian/Spanish language proposals.

> All humans are imitations of apes. All Gods are imitations of humans.

@Jez I feel it should be
it's headed in the wrong direction, you should try to steer it back
(IMHO)

@DanGrossman I lol'd :)

Have a good day!

2:39 PM
Hello @Tyler

Hello

@drachenstern where do I submit bugs with the sticky header script?

yawns Ahh, morning..

Morning @Tim. Another conference call this morning that woke you up only to find it's been postponed again?

It better not be! shakes fist :P

3:02 PM
Ah, I see you managed to wake up on time too @Zypher :D

me I always wake up on time (or within an hour or so) i just don't LIKE it

Hahah, fair enough

but hey at least there wasn't a cop every mile and a half this morning so traffic actually flowed

Ah, nice.

From a support ticket: "I've been using PayPal since 1991 :-)"
cue hysterical laughter

3:12 PM
@DanGrossman Seven years before its inception, impressive.

err...

Hell, in 1998 PayPal was a company for encrypting payments between Palm Pilots. He's even more off.

At least the http protocol was finished begin developed?

I didn't have a computer in 1991 :( I wish I could have a longer history without being older.

Jez
@TheRenamedException: or people should just follow my proposed one ;-)

3:58 PM
@TheRenamedException until I figure out my page on github just here I suppose

Ah, I see @YiJiang has been stealing my work tasks. (;

@RebeccaChernoff What, the poking?

Well, what have I stolen?

4:05 PM
@RebeccaChernoff You still need to research on how to do this for IE users ;)

@RebeccaChernoff Don't imply he did things wrong when he's doing things for you :p

and Opera |: (;

I don't think Jeff said that. ;)

Huh? Imply he's wrong?
I'm confuzzled.

Bah, so much talk about the script tag and still the only submissions so far are mine? :P

4:07 PM
No?

@badp no, I have some too
:p

@RebeccaChernoff Stealing is a bad thing? :o

some in this case being defined as numbers >0

@Zypher - you're not on the leaderboards yet!

Oh, okay, I shouldn't be looking at the faq tab
I blame @RebeccaChernoff's link

4:07 PM
@Moshe I imagine he has other things going on ya know

@badp I linked to the "info"!
Anyways, to work!
(:

@RebeccaChernoff You luck manipulated me into clicking 'faq' without thinking about it.

@badp goes off to write userscript to post messages in correct timing such that he'll do something stupid, like ban @RebeccaChernoff from this room

@YiJiang I won't hold my breath

4:21 PM
General announcement: artofvideogames.org

@PopularDemand I need to register to see the entries?

@badp Apparently. Mailinator would probably work. I used a spambox address.

4:43 PM
Damn me for asking questions, argh.

whoever farted outside my office, would you please light a match?

lmao
F*%$!

@TimStone ?
You're well on your way to the bronze level badge for crypticness.

@TimStone Ask on SO and close him as duplicate!

@PopularDemand I try :P
@badp Hahah

4:54 PM
yay for web 0.1

\o/

@badp -1 not enough fax machine use in that story.

Hey, at least that's IE7

OMG, have you guys read the first one on the page? :\

@badp On the minus side, it still has the IE4 era 'Free Hotmail' default link stuck in the Favourite bar...

4:58 PM
@drachenstern >_>;

tears indeed

@drachenstern I wish I hadn't.
@YiJiang What does Hotmail need to be freed from? What's oppressing it?
2

@PopularDemand Isn't it obvious? It just wants to be free and HoTMaiL again
This is why SOIS Chat is so great:
> Bart Silverstrim: @sysadmin1138: not in the Marvel universe.

@drachenstern Ahh yes, I was just going to bring that up.

I feel dirty. I added Internet Explorer and Opera userscript instructions. (;

5:02 PM
In the SF room.

@RebeccaChernoff Did you actually try them out?

9 hours ago, by Jeff Atwood
Opera, seriously, if you are using Opera then you have bigger problems than how to install the greasemonkies

@TimStone Why do you think I said I feel dirty? (;

Fair point ;)
We're having a phone conversation about how great jQuery is.
I kid you not.

@TimStone Did any mention of unicorns turn up?

5:05 PM
@YiJiang No, we haven't gotten that far off track...yet...

@TimStone Start with breakfast, then waffles... and before you know it, unicorns!!!1!

@YiJiang Don't talk about food, I'm starving :(

Rovio!
No? Still not enabled? Rovio?
...okay.

@TimStone damnit quit linking me to semi-current transcripts, I feel the need to read them :p

@drachenstern Sorry, this is a crazy day around here!

5:08 PM
@PopularDemand Rooooooooovio!

@TheRenamedException who's complaining?

Filling out PCI DSS SAQs and all sorts of crap, lol

I so need to figure that out at home tho :\
I needs paper from the printers

looks at time Oh god why am I still up?

@YiJiang To entertain me.

5:11 PM
@YiJiang You changed your dosage.

@YiJiang what's localtime?

@drachenstern 1am

1:11am Friday (SGT)
I see this. Bah, you've got another 45 before it becomes insanely late

@PopularDemand I did not! Hang on, whatcha talking about, what did you put into my food!!?
@TimStone With my horrible singing? Sure! takes a deep breathe, watches as the room suddenly empties

Ah, excellent..problem resolved just by me saying there shouldn't be an issue.
@YiJiang I'm off the phone now, you can go to sleep. :P

5:12 PM
Ok, work list made. Actionable items and steps to accomplish in order. I shall now go actionable my items.
Good thing I have more than one monitor

@TimStone Lalalalalalalalala... lalala...
Wanna watch me tap dance now?

Sure...let me get my video camera for blackmailing purposes first.

@TimStone What? Just turn his webcam on.

@YiJiang, @TimStone, are either of you going to be the rep hogs? stackapps.com/?tab=scripts

@RebeccaChernoff Not particularly, no. It's your script ;)

5:16 PM
Meh, I started it.

Unless you're too busy right now, in which case I'll jab @TimStone with this sharp stick and get him to work on it :P

But it is far from just "mine".
I just didn't know if either of you cared about the rep - I don't really need it. (;

Well, you wrote the foundation and the most useful bits, I added a lot of commands that were long and useless, and @TimStone actually did something useful

ummm, goodbye power? That was a horrible flickering just now
and it's still going on :/

What I did really pales in comparison to all of the things I keep claiming I'm going to do, so I'm not too proud of that, heh. :P

5:19 PM

But anyway, @RebeccaChernoff, I'd be happy to do it in a bit, but I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be the one to do it, unless you don't want to. :)

Could it be the earthquakes in Ark?

@RebeccaChernoff It's the YiJiang Stoned rchern multisupercollider userscript thingadondong supreme!

@TimStone Yeah, when's this 'World Peace' thingy you keep on the TODO list and keep bragging about but never got around doing?

Conflict keeps things exciting.

5:20 PM
Anyway, that's the slide of the presentation I'm working on

@badp Error: Not enough Trademark signs
@TimStone No, but that could be interesting.
The name of the team is called Hot Tubs. Yeah, we're that creative...

lmao, I see.

5:21 PM
I sure hope it's "group 7" because you're talking about the item numbered 7 on the background picture.

Okay, okay, no need to flag. Jeez.

@drachenstern Ehh, my internet went out when I said that.

dl.dropbox.com/u/1722364/School/Physics%20Steam.pptx Not sure why, but I feel a sudden urge to stick my presentation on the internet. Okay @PopularDemand, what did you put into my food now?

5:30 PM

And now the question: how do CD readers fare when they're upside down?

@badp they don't

@drachenstern You'd be surprised.

5:35 PM
@mootinator I rather wonder if I want to know what Wine Gum is

The old style laptop clippy ones worked just fine.

@badp does it have a little clip in the middle to grab the CDs?

@drachenstern What CD reader doesn't?

Wine gums (or winegums) are chewy, firm pastille-type sweets similar to gumdrops without the sugar coating. They are manufactured from animal gelatin and are mixed with sweeteners, flavourings, and colourings. Wine gums are popular in Ireland, the United Kingdom, many Commonwealth nations, and several northern and middle European countries. Common brands include Maynards, Bassett's, and Waterbridge. History Wine gums were originally created in 1905 by mixing fermented wine with a gelling agent.. According to Cadbury, red and black are the most popular colours. The red flavours are trad...

@drachenstern CANDY!
It seems like the Wikipedia one-boxer should really...you know, choose the actual image from the article, instead of the category image.

@badp the one in my car, the one in my desktop, the one in my home entertainment system
@mootinator interesting
Oh, had you just said jujyfruits I would've known! :p
So now I want to know how they always end up in your nose

So do I, but I dare not say so aloud.

> State officials described a disturbing picture of Jorge and Carmen Barahona, who adopted the twins, an 11-year-old autistic boy and a 7-year-old girl from foster care.
I see like seven things wrong with this ... :\
> When asked why Fleary didn't interview the two other children in the house, she said it was 9 p.m. on a Friday night. The judge was furious with the answer.

Children aren't abused on the weekends, apparently.

How do two children four years different make for twins?
Or are they saying the twins were the other two children in the house?
The sentences don't make a lot of sense to me
> The Barahonas seemed like good foster parents on paper. Before the twins were adopted, one therapist wrote in a report that the children were thriving. Only a guardian Ad Litem expressed concern about the adoption and asked for an expert to review the case, but the adoption went through anyway, child welfare officials said.
"stop means stop" and "no means no" don't apply to these people I guess

@drachenstern Yeah, MSNBC is full of fail when it comes to coherency.
sighs

I know exactly how to punish the parents ... unfortunately I'm pretty sure every country on the planet would try me for some crime no matter where I practiced the punishment.

@drachenstern Ah, no, it's not.
They have four kids..An 11 year old, twin 10 year olds, and a 7 year old.

5:53 PM
ooooh, that does make it all make sense doesn't it?

Yeah, the article could be much more clear about that though.
> The Department of Children and Families began investigating the family last week after the Barahona's 7-year-old granddaughter told an adult the twins were kept locked in the bathroom. The child said Nubia was sometimes kept in the tub all day.
That's the key piece, where the 7 year old girl talks about the 10 year old girl being kept in the tub.

Yeah, I see that after you pointed it out
sad that it took two people with backgrounds in logic deciphering to reread it to figure it out
regardless, that's one focked story

6:34 PM
Does anybody else see a logic discrepancy in this join?
left join dbo.Location l on a.LocationId = l.LocationId
left join dbo.LocationAddress la on l.LocationId = la.LocationId
I know why my boss wanted to do that, but ...

Heh.

There's a reason I moan about him mucking about in the code
altho it's entirely possible that SQL optimizes that nonsense away (I can dream)

A: Can we get rid of the threshold of 15 chars for comments?

Ólafur WaageYou can put spaces between the last characters. Yes . This will work and looks like this Yes . Due to how HTML truncates regular spaces. (see my comment on the question) But I like that there is a minimum. Kinda forces us to talk more about the item in question.

@TheRenamedException Tell me the Unicode code of it, please!

Why is that answer still there?

A: Greasemonkey script for displaying threaded comments

Shog9Hey... There's a really easy way to get around including a full copy of jQuery for Chrome scripts when those scripts don't actually use any privileged features (GM_* functions, etc)... Simply insert the script itself into the page DOM and execute! The best part is that this technique works just ...

Only allow approved Unicode characters in the comments

@TimStone or @RebeccaChernoff, does the StackExchange™ KitchenSink UserscriptSupreme™ have any way for other userscripts to "hook in" to it, to add additional slashcommands for example?

23 hours ago, by balpha
I think we should just allow characters with even codepoints, but not odd ones. That instantly halves the chance of unicode spam.

6:54 PM
@badp L L!

@badp YES!
@TheRenamedException it doesn't

@drachenstern f l

@drachenstern Can that be added then? (CC:@RebeccaChernoff and @TimStone)

Hmmm, altho it could be done, if they were turned into lots of returning functions ... would mean more functions but a tighter layout
could also be used to reduce complexity ...

@drachenstern I don't see why this would be necessary

6:57 PM
if (slashcommand in listofslashcommands) handleslashcommand(listofslashcommands[slashcommand]) where listofslashcommands held a lookup to the function
@TheRenamedException because right now it's a long if else block

If a command has a slash, and is not recognized as a valid slash command, fire an event.
@drachenstern so add to the else fire('slashCommand',msgText);
I may just add this myself
