Your question did state you assumed there to be a bug in the way the rep is calculated.
That is not the case. But it is that sentence that made me write my answer.

> Where's the bug? I presume the moderator page is incorrectly calculating the day's rep. I have confirmed that other mods on the site also see 142 as the rep...
I can see how that can be interpreted all sorts of ways

Exactly.

You should also understand that the back story is that only the moderators see things this way.... and when I tried to question the devs, they said to write up the bug.....

Now we have had various users confused over how that works. I was tempted to close your post as a dupe instead if it wasn't for the moderator side of the coin here.

The issue affects moderators only. I did check for dups.... It affects everything we see, and when a person's rep is swung around by things like user removals, etc, it adds up really fast.

Reading casperOne's FR it looks like your real issue is a dupe of his.
you want that CB. And Nick feels that it is one option too many and that mods are trusted to be able to adjust.
You may have a compelling argument here but that needs to be directed at Nick in the context of that FR, not in your bug report.
user removed events are shown irrespective of the CB I think; as that is not about removed posts.

Q: Moderators should have the check-box to show/hide removed posts on user reputation pages

rolfl 260 is accurate, @rolfl - that's what was earned for the day. If you check the box, then a different set of rules are in play, and 142 becomes accurate. If you don't see the box, report a bug. – Shog9♦ 27 mins ago I dont's see the box, here's the bug report... ;-) Moderators occasionally ...

Since Casper seems to have settled in to agreeing with Nick's arguments your FR is 'distinct' enough, but only just. We'll see if others agree. :-)
Time to sign off, it is 01:20 at night here.
Cheerio!
