And I managed to completely not notice :)
I did notice the message you sent though

Is there a way to stop the bouncing animation without writing anything?

@balpha, on the Recent Users page for chat, if the display name wraps to a 2nd line, the room they last spoke in gets cut off.

I don't see that

"The Communist Duck" is the user I see it on.

there are some issues with rendering there, though
I give you that

shall we blame non-stable chrome? heh
I'll check from work when I get there.

Wouldn't this problem be solved by hiding the uninteresting all-time rooms counter?

12:45 PM
@rchern you've got old CSS right there, hit F5
(Shift-Ctrl-Alt-Mega-F5 for chrome dev, maybe?)

or, ya know, that.
haha

oh, look, now the uninteresting all-time rooms counter is gone from there.

ctrl+f5 ?

@badp no, it's not
it moved to the bottom left

btw, why just numbers without a description?
Maybe "7 rooms 4.4k messages" would look ugly?

12:47 PM
we've got a space problem already :)

not on the bottom row (that I can see)

this is the inspiration for the placement of those numbers:

Yeah, those things couldn't come with on-hover tooltips so people had to use those huge rulebooks...
ah, thine olde days.

1:36 PM
just wondering why the time display is 14:47 and not "1 hour ago"
seems interspersed weirdly too, since it's only every 5 messages or so you only see one on the page and are left wondering about the other messages and why they don't display time, until you scroll up

Hi guys, a tiny question as Yes or No. After the 7 days bounty, and I get no answers or nothing that would be close to an answer, do I get my points back? - So I can extend the bounty and start it all over without loosing the previous points?
wrong button :(

2:06 PM
@balexandre No

A: How does the bounty system work?

A. RexSources: the official FAQ and blog. What is a bounty? A bounty is a special reputation award given to answers. This feature was designed to motivate answerers, and make questions get the answers they deserve. As a bounty starter, the bounty award is funded by your own reputation. The award can...

I got to there, but I miss more on "Can I offer a second bounty after the first one has expired?"
if I reward 300 points now, what would happen to my original 200 points? will I "spend" 100 points from my rep or I will spend the all 300 ?
this is not well clarified there :(

You always lose all the rep you offered, it's just the amount that is awarded to someone else that varies
If you award it directly, they get the full amount; if it's awarded automatically they only get half, but you lose the full amount either way

I get that, but if no one answer ... I can re-bounty it... my question is, if I had 200 bounty points originally and now I re-bounty it to 300... will I lose 300 or only 100 points?

300. 500 total. The bounties are completely separate, it doesn't matter that you've offered one in the past

:(
not funny at all... no one answered !
I just loosed 200 reps :'(
dang!

2:14 PM
Apparently your question is quite difficult :). You paid 200 rep to get it a lot more exposure by having it show up on the featured tab

I need to create a Facebook Group Page "Say no to Stack Overflow bounty points" LOL :D
I would mind that, I would pay even 400 ... but that someone answered it ! :(
I don't think it's that hard ... though I'm missing some byte somewhere ...

Q: How to show the ActiveX Yellow bar?

balexandreI'm trying to set up a webpage that downloads the OCX and installs it with the user permission when the user right click in the yellow bar Note: it's a business app and I know... IE, but 95% of company customers use it and it's easy for us to move from Windows > OCX first and then to full WebSe...

Someone did answer

it's not an answer ...
well, not exactly
that should be more a comment
(I cant move answers to comments) :)

It certainly sounds like an answer, just not an answer that actually solved your problem

should be something like:

are you missing the `[deployment]` tag?
and I would say ... nop :)

wds
2:18 PM
can you even install activex anymore on non-ssl domains?

ohh well, just a little sad about loosing all of it and no answer ... and no way to re-bounty it without loosing big time points
yes, and I get "Install Plugin from company XPTO" but in a windows box, I really wanted to know how to use the "yellow bar"
bottom line is, it is working, but not with the behaviour that I would like

I wouldn't rebounty it anyway; it's not likely to get many more views than it did the first time. It's not that your bounty was "too low", it's that people don't know the answer

I do think that it's all about the hook parameter, but I do not need any hook to any exe, the ocs is registered automatically
how many active users use SO? ... I really doubt that no ones knows it :)
old school guys from VB6 and ActiveX probably know this by heart :)
I just didnt found any :( ... yet
ohh well... thank you for the info, time to head home: it's 4:23 pm here

wds
lol here too
that's a bit early :P

quick google search and it seems a lot of people have problems viewing the yellow bar and need to know how to download OCX's manually

2:52 PM
careful - balpha might show up and kick all these posts into the brand-new Stack Overflow room...

3:02 PM
@Shog9 I actually figured a mod would move them into the tavern, but it never happened

balpha is notoriously lazy this time of day
it's the best time to abuse chat feedback ;-)

FEATURE REQUEST: add blockquote syntax to FAQ
FEATURE REQUEST: escape should remove the notification bar

yesterday, by balpha
ESC is a dangerous thing in a browser anyway

comment would carry more weight if you weren't already using it to "debounce"...
but, whatever. Pick some other key.
enter. delete. "Q"

The "End" key on Italian keyboards reads "Fine."
Just saying.

@badp brilliant!

Italian keyboards are reknown for their intellectual superiority; pressing three keys to get a '{' or a '}' is the landmark of the considerate programmer, who doesn't open blocks just because.
(The tilde is even more fun to type.)

6:23 PM
Is this where the party is?
FEATURE REQUEST: I want vote on conversation lines
(Just had to throw that in there)

as in stars?

@badp I was just throwing it out there to irratate @balpha

and all that after I was so nice to invite you

@balpha I do not take responsibility for anything I say or do while under the influence :)
(Yes. I am bored and drunk all in one go and trying to unwind form a particularly long day)

6:51 PM
@balpha: any way we could get ~strike out~ text (or -strike out- text)?

that is indeed quite cute. Can't make any promises, though

use the tilde - apparently, it's complicated for Italians to type, so they won't be over-using strikeout....

English is a high enough barrier for entrance for Italians, don't worry about them
I had to make my custom keyboard layout to type tildes without going alt-whatever :/
same with backtick, really.

The alternative is I'll be forced to abuse ^H. And you don't want that
The transcripts appear to be completely broken, by the way

7:08 PM
@balpha Has it been noted that all the links on the "starred sidebar" are busted?
Or @marc I suppose

yeah, Michael just mentioned it
but... they work just fine for me

Oh, everything appears to be fixed

But it does seem to be working now.

just like Marc to sneakily fix stuff

7:25 PM
Define "busted"?

@Marc When posting this link from MSU: meta.superuser.com/questions/1314/…
Like so:

Hmmm.... that was actually an error setting the last-updated http header

A: Superuser - Will it be different?

Shog9 How do you think it will turn out? Well... You know how every week or so, someone starts whining about how their favorite question on SO got closed or deleted or down-voted or unkind comments posted to it? And how when they're informed that, strictly speaking, "What did you put on your res...

It bring back the complete wrong post?
Since I was trying to point out a serious bug in the last deployment to Jeff :|

@Marc I posted a link of what I was receiving when I clicked on one of the links
"http_//chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/error?aspxerrorpath=/chats/message/118644"

@devinb - yes, lolcat found your error in the log
System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.
Parameter name: utcDate
   at System.Web.HttpCachePolicy.UtcSetLastModified(DateTime utcDate)
   at System.Web.HttpCachePolicy.SetLastModified(DateTime date)

7:28 PM
cool It's fixed now anyway. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up

no, nothing has been fixed.

but... but....
it works.

I wonder if it is time dependent, i.e. it is rounding related to the seconds component - sometimes it thinks it has been updated in the future.
Or something like that.

You could try it.

...time...dependent...

7:29 PM
Well, if you believe it happens on the "second" then you've only got 60 test cases :p
I starred your comment and tested the link. All good.
Also the ones that were previously broken are now valid as well.

@Diago OK, you have me. That is all kinds of crazy.
Actually, the links on the RHS are incorrect. We need to fix those. The sharp-eyed may have noticed that we've changed the route.

@Marc Sorry :( I was reporting another bug when that one came out.

@devinb just add a catch for ArgumentOutOfRange and whistle nonchalantly while walking slowly away

Q: 10K Tools Page Broken on SuperUser

DiagoCurrently when using any of the links on the 10K+ users page the links are generating wrong. When clicking on Close/Delete the url is generated as tag=Close instead of tab=Close

Also not your department but the links o SU's 10K tools are broken, as was the purpose of that MSE post, but not sure if the team will see it soon enough

7:31 PM
Let me commit/merge my current WIP, and I'll look at those..

@devinb WTF??? I tried 3 times :(

The link I posted is "http_//meta.superuser.com/questions/1314"
the busted link is "http_//meta.superuser.com/questions/1314/10k-tools-page-broken-on-superuser"
It links to "http_//meta.superuser.com/questions/2/superuser-will-it-be-different/10#10"

@devinb Ah. Thanks for the tip!

So... the number "10" appears to be somehow the linchpin of this problem.
Oh wait.
I see. They're just taking the last segment that starts with a number and using that as the post number

yeah, looks like an edge case in SE routing that we didn't consider

7:35 PM
Well, we've already figured out the work around.

Oh FFS. I can't get anything to work tonight :(
@devinb Ta :)

@balpha I do not take responsibility for anything I say or do while under the influence :)

Oops

@Balpha by the way, my work permit for Switzerland is getting stuck in red tape, you wouldn't happen to have any contacts, would you???? It's just a quick hop across the border.

3 out of 6 finished. I will use that as my excuse. But I was able to debug the SU problem, alcohol and all.

@balpha.... pleeeeease?

7:40 PM
@devinb lol, no, sorry -- also, the Swiss are notorious for not letting anyone talk into their stuff
didn't even join the EU

It's already been suggested that I simply fly to German and catch a ride into Switzerland with a friend. I vetoed that. The idea of getting permanently banned from a country, or jailed, is one of the few things I won't do for my company.

@Diago - just so we're clear: which is the more urgent bug in your view?
The 10k tools?

@Marc Yeah The 10K tools
But I would put the edge case I picked up as high for you :)
The first only because it will effect more users

doesn't impact SO... checking version numbers...

MSO is fine. It's the only 2 places I can check unfortunatly
SU is a newer version then MSO at the moment

7:45 PM
SU is a version ahead, so this is a bug introduced, not already fixed
Have you already spoken to Jeff or similar?

Nope
I only picked up on it half an hour ago
And I didn't want to post it on main meta but felt it urgent enough to at least post it somewhere
So Jeff or one of you can see it :)
There is a manual workaround for now

OK. It probably isn't worth hitting the red molly-guarded button just for that. I'm sure they'll see and fix it ;p
Heck, Jeff will probably be around at some point shortly.

8:26 PM
@Marc great job.

thanks. What did I do?

You fixed the thing.
Whoa. where'd my messages go.

I see them.

That's it, either my brain or my computer is fried. In either case, it's time to go.

Just looked with reflector:
    if (utcDate > DateTime.UtcNow)
    {
        throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("utcDate");
    }

8:31 PM
hello folks. what does the 9.1k mean in the lower right corner in the summary?

hover and it will tell you

ohh!
woot, that's many messages :)

so if one server is a few milliseconds ahead, and gets the event quickly enough from the other server, and rounds it in the right way... then boom!
will fix...

@MarcGravell routes?
