Hello?

I am scared to post on meta, I have a reasonable reputation, but I am scared to post on SO. I do not know what has happened, there seems to be no kindness.

I joined because I like helping people, but it seems that I must not do this. I understand that some people are vampires, but surely a reproof is enough? I see so many down votes on new people.

@Remou don't be scared to post on Meta. Meta is like that little dog with the loud bark; it can't hurt you, but it wants you to think it can because it is afraid of you.

@Remou don't ever be afraid to help people. Just realize that SO was created to give you the power to help more people than you would normally be able to. When you write, whether an answer or a question, always consider that your post will live long beyond the day on which you write it and may be read by dozens - perhaps hundreds - of other people. Do your best to make it worth their while.

I do not feel part of a community, just part of a game.

Yes, But I think we who answer are interested in helpin.

in some ways, it's more like a federation of sports teams. We're all nominally playing the same sort of game, but not everyone's playing it the same way or for the same reason.

I feel like a peasant hiding from the ravening hordes. I would like to be nice to people withouth being punished. :)

I mostly only comment now, because I do not have the time for a long answer an a short answer is insufficient.
