Hi, I'm a room owner of two chat rooms on the same site, and I tried to move messages from one of those rooms to the other of those rooms. When I click "relocate" and type the name of the intended target room in the search panel, it doesn't come up. Several other rooms from other sites come up, and it seems I can move the messages there, but the one that I want to move the messages to is not coming up. Are not all rooms available for relocating messages?
Okay I figured it out. I had to search something in the room description. Searching just the title of the desired target room, does not work.

@JohnDvorak Wonder why you are being forced to update Windows and restart: news.sophos.com/en-us/2020/09/08/… - if Windows doesn't 'take over' your computer someone else can, and may do so; launching attacks on everyone else. --- It may be like forced immunization but if you unplugged you wouldn't be subjected to it.

@SonictheMaskedWerehog You don't have blacklist manager privileges, but I've created PR#4769 for you.

@Mithical very hot... and should get a bug report. :)
@user1271772 nope, that's not correct:
It was something else, what are the rooms?
One thing I can think of is if the target room name contains fancy unicode letters and not ordinary English letters, then search won't find it indeed.

7:40 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I was trying to find another instance of it to see if should be on MSE or per-site

@Mithical IMO better on MSE, higher exposure.
Looks like something got stuck in the automated script/job responsible to "hottify" questions, some rare race condition or something, so doubt it can be reproduced. But hopefully a dev can detect what went wrong and smash the bug. ;)
I had something which remotely reminds me of that, automated report creation caused over 1000 emails to be sent in few seconds (to same client) because a function returned 0 instead of a positive number. (that's the amount of seconds until next report.)

8:21 AM
Whoops, should check myself before suggesting to post on MSE. Sorry, @Mith although you did get some points for your efforts. :)

8:32 AM
...the white space above that is bothering me now, grrr.

8:46 AM
@Mithical what's that? Why so much whitespace?

it's a meme that I forgot to crop the space above
it was in response to your "at least you got points"

oh lol
How did you generate it?
Anyway for what it's worth, I started a bounty on the "root" bug report. ;)

@Mithical I didn't notice it's adding whitespace... confused

depends on the template you choose... I slapped it together in a minute, just forgot to remove the top space that it includes for a specific type of meme

8:52 AM
oh well. What's done is done. No point crying over spilled space. :P

Today's topic: "what do I need to bring to basic training"

9:09 AM
@Mithical depends how long you'll be away from home?
Well, if it's at least one night away from home, start with the basics: tooth brush and tooth paste. Small towel. Soap. Clean socks. Etc. ;)

טירונות 02

Shampoo too, though there are many brands which are both body wash and a shampoo.
@Mithical hmm.... I had 03, it wasn't easy. So you'll be a full week at least in a בסיס?

yeah

So what I said above, and plan ahead for two weeks, you might get a ריתוק or Corona will force a quarantine over the whole base.

(And then there's a seven-week course or something to learn how to do the job I was assigned)

9:13 AM
So... 14 pairs of socks, 14 pairs of underwear, 7 white T-shirts (to put below uniform), etc.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Yeah. Kinda concerned about how they're dealing with COVID.

@Mithical strictly, unlike most ppl
Which is good, but not enough, country-wise. :/

There are thousands of soldiers in quarantine, aren't there?

Anyway, I don't think they'll keep you for more than two weeks.
@Mithical yes, but sometimes they send them home under strict orders to be there in quarantine.
Sister of a friend of my daughter did it.
The hardest part is the social aspect, it's more luck than any skills, i.e. being with good people.
I had few good people, and few bad.

I'm very socially awkward, so that part should be, uh, interesting

9:17 AM
Bringing lots of sweets helped a bit, but overdoing it is also bad.
@Mithical yeah, I was also awkward.

but a native speaker

Looking back, the tip I'd give my 18 y/o self is "keep close to the few who like you, don't try to befriend those who clearly don't want".
@Mithical meh, that's really not an issue, IMO. I had couple of people in the training who came from USA and hard time with Hebrew, they both did just fine. One was a good friend, got a pic with him somewhere. :)

good to know
I can understand most of what I hear, but speaking I stutter and stumble over my words - especially if I'm nervous - so it's really ironic they're putting me in Tikshuv.

10:08 AM
> "does watching hebrew comedy skits count as preparing for my giyus?"
"yes"

11:02 AM
@Mithical same here. No worry. :)
Anyway @Mithical תקשוב means you need to listen, not speak..... no?
(didn't really check yet :))
hmm... serious question alert.
@Mithical suppose you'll get order to listen to private conversation of citizens in the name of "homeland security" - will you do it?

Um.
I don't know?
I think I'll be more patching through communications internally, though.
(Apparently I need to get security clearance.)

and you probably can't talk about it lol

yep

A government can force you to not speak, but can't force you to lie

(also uh, If you need anything waffled, let me know)

Will do... but I haven't started anything yet, so no worries ;) I don't yet have that clearance; apparently there'll be an interview or something this week.

In other words, you could keep telling others that "I'm not doing [x]", and when your response changes to "no comment", then that implies that you are doing that

@SonictheMaskedWerehog uh more
Not talk about it at all
no confirm nor deny
its "Uh, can't talk about my job. nuh huh"

Heck, there are positions that they make you delete your social media profiles for.

That's what I said. You could keep denying, and then if your stance suddenly changes to "can't confirm or deny", then that's implicit confirmation
A warrant canary is a method by which a communications service provider aims to inform its users that the provider has been served with a government subpoena despite legal prohibitions on revealing the existence of the subpoena. The warrant canary typically informs users that there has not been a court-issued subpoena as of a particular date. If the canary is not updated for the period specified by the host or if the warning is removed, users are to assume that the host has been served with such a subpoena. The intention is to allow the provider to warn users of the existence of a subpoena passively...

11:15 AM
@SonictheMaskedWerehog Uh... more "I'm not talking about it", and if you keep pushing, people get mad at you ;D
My employer wouldn't tell me who our client was until after I signed the contract :D

@BabaYaga now they do

@JourneymanGeek lmao!

11:49 AM
@Mithical oh. Better this way, I guess. :)
@SonictheMaskedWerehog if it's either lie or get fired/in prison, well...
@Mithical מוסד?
@BabaYaga Corona mask? Not good.
:P
Trivia time! What's weird in this pic?

white balance

eggs don't lay snake

@ShadowWizardWearingMask those are not snake eggs
hmmm

@MetaAndrewT. Completely wrong.
Only one species of snake, the king cobra, will build a nest for its young. Not all snakes lay eggs, either. About 70 percent of snakes lay eggs. These types of snakes are called oviparous.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I can't tell if the the snake got laid from the photo
no pun intended. It certainly seems to have laid.

12:28 PM
@MetaAndrewT. :D
@JohnDvorak that's not weird. ;)
@JourneymanGeek yup. Good reverse image search skills! :P

uh
ACTUALLY
I think I googled snake eggs

oh lol well it's currently a hot story
The Jesus of Snakes... :D

Technically
Mary

(well, one of the baby snakes will be ;))

I'm pretty sure Jesus never got preggers.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask maybe all of em.

12:30 PM
lol
Well surely the truth is boring, e.g. some visitor brought a male snake, nobody noticed, and the visitor took the snake back after they were... done. :P

....
Dude
JURASSIC PARK

Watched only the first

IT IS PART OF THE PLOT OF THE FIRST
@Mithical If jesus walked up to me and told me she was a lady, I am bloody well treating her like one. Also wondering if I need meds. I'm totally going to be judgy over how someone is over 2000 years old :D

12:34 PM
other way around :D

:D
Well or that
same difference :D

@Mithical major hole in the theory: from the little I know/remember, the belief is that God actually fertilized Jesus mother, just skipping the part we humans go through to do it.
So this makes Jesus the actual son of God.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask *shrugs* not my domain of expertise

@Mithical mine neither, but it makes sense more than, well, other things. ;)
Also, can explain walking on water.... :)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask which is a very common concept in myth

12:38 PM
@JourneymanGeek concept? As in it happens in more cases?

Sure
Zeus was a swinger

Greek myth is pretty straight forward from what I remember...
@JourneymanGeek but he did what humans do. No?

And we had the pandavas in our myths
@ShadowWizardWearingMask zeus... Uh
Kinky dude

I'm not talking about the fact God has a son, but the fact he made the son in a special way. :)
Clean way.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask well from a certain point of view, we are all children of God if you're of a monthestic bent

12:40 PM
Though it could be even cleaner if God would just created Jesus out of thin air, instead of using a human female. :P

Well other than that...
he wasn't 'special'
for a semi divine being, he lived a very... normal life
I mean, dude was a carpenter, not a king
And that's something people miss
he wasn't the fastest, or strongest. He did not beat the shit out of a demon for kicks, or invade sri lanka to save his love.
He was an ordinary, compassionate dude. He was trying hard to be the best person he could be.
People forget that :D
And of all the lessons we can learn, that's it. Be compassionate. Love each other. Be humble. You don't need to be a superhero :D
2
Sure his mom got knocked up by "God" and there was the occational miracle. But those are less important than the rest of it :D
(But then again, I'm a hindu, in love with the idea of foundationaism :D )

Rob
12:59 PM
HNQ FavIcons OK on other sites, but missing on MSE:
Darn snake!

1:36 PM
no repro :/

@JourneymanGeek and end up crucified. :/

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Well, that was a little bit annoying yes
But he knew it was going to happen. He could have run away or something
That's kinda part of the story too - that he had faith that it was what was meant to be
and even there, forgave the fellas who left him hanging around.

Rob
I still see it, but not on other .SE sites nor on SO - CDN error in North America ?

@JourneymanGeek well. If only most humans were like this, the world would have been a better place. :)
Heck, not most. But also more than the ~0.001% that are now.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask and that's a story worth telling :)
We're the world we make as individuals.

1:49 PM
@JourneymanGeek I can't change the world even if trying hard.

@Rob see what? Red lines?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask whenever I feel that way, I go find this

Rob
@JourneymanGeek Even Vlad was forgiven after he converted to Catholicism. @Sha, he made red lines too.

@JourneymanGeek big words there

1:54 PM
@Rob I have never been fond of the concept of indulgence
if we are to find grace, it should be in ourselves
@ShadowWizardWearingMask they're good words

Rob
But all too big :)

@Rob lines of blood?
@JourneymanGeek no doubt
@Rob bigger words weight more, harder to carry them.

> When we lose the spark of spontaneity that was born inside us, which is our greatest gift, we progressively eliminate the possibility of finding joy and purpose, and inch by inch, our dreams slip away from us.
and if you think about it - why do people turn to religion? We seek peace and purpose :D

@JourneymanGeek or just someone to tell us what to do.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask And we forget who we are, and try to be what someone else wants us to be.

Rob
1:59 PM
There's an HNQ about spontaneity, planning to fail.

2:48 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I found something for green!

Rob
3:02 PM
@Ollie Is it really that difficult to find green? @Sha

@Rob no no no, not like that.
I see green every ten minutes.
Possibly five,

Rob
Monkey green?

Yeah, that one.
I think...
Now we just need something for blue.
Goodbye.
:D

Rob
The original monkey is blue.

@Ollie We had monkey blue but is was removed for reasons.

3:05 PM
._.

4:10 PM
23 messages moved to Chimney

@Rob most green is not green enough
@Ollie Nice! Now find a proper blue.
:P
@Ollie exactly!
@DavidPostill location is the key. Blue head won't be removed. I hope. :)

insert Intel Inside

3 hours later…
7:30 PM
@DavidPostill yes. That's a totally legit blue faced monkey.

Rob
7:56 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask He had a red head as I recall.

@DavidPostill that's not the original monkey is it?
Got a question
Currently, when you raise a duplicate flag, a comment is automatically generated, saying "Does this answer your question? Example link?". I assume the same is true for close votes.
What if we could do the same for off-topic close votes, or off-topic flags?
Could the system generate a comment saying:
"Welcome to Meta. I'm not sure which search you brought here, but..." etc. etc. etc.
Often I flag to close a question, then start writing one of those comments, then discard it, realizing another user has beaten me to it.
Just in case you didn't get it, these are dough hooks.

8:19 PM
@Ollie only dup votes and a custom close reason will generate a comment

Rob
8:31 PM
Face color doesn't absolutely determine the color of the remainder, including nose:
The Sphynx cat is a breed of cat known for its lack of coat (fur). Hairlessness in cats is a naturally occurring genetic mutation; however, the Sphynx cat, as a breed, was developed through selective breeding, starting in the 1960s. The skin should have the texture of chamois leather, as it has fine hairs, or the cat may be completely hairless. Whiskers may be present, either whole or broken, or may be totally absent. The cats have a narrow, long head, and webbed feet. Their skin is the color that their fur would be, and all the usual cat markings (solid, point, van, tabby, tortie, etc.) may be...

@Ollie they're using saviour of the lost souls :)

Rob
Nor does cat coloring / markings transfer to the genetically different monkey - but couldn't find another image of a balled monkey.

> Male mandrills, native to rain forests of equtorial Africa, have vivid red and blue facial colors that match the eye-catching colors on their hindquarters. The brighter the face, rump, and genitalia, the higher the male’s rank, which a 2005 study showed could sometimes help avoid costly conflict. What's more, female mandrills prefer males with more vibrant colors.

@DavidPostill Eyeroll.

@Ollie Well if we can't have the pictures at least we can present the facts ...

8:46 PM
And why can't we have the pictures?
Not that I want them

@Ollie Pictures of monkey genitalia are not allowed as per CM diktat.

Why do we need to present the facts?
