Q: Did Curiosity rover land on Mars?

KaEThe Curiosity rover landed on Mars using an extremely complex system, system involving a sky crane and using pictures from the orbiter to maneuver to a flat landing spot. The 1 ton car (equivalent to 300 kg in Mars' gravity) was suspended from a hovering rocket platform, after parachute deploymen...

Q: How can my repuation to be converted into real money?

Yousif ANIHow can the Stack Exchange system convert my reputation into money that I can use and how can it be withdrawn?

A simple process called pre-conversion: Spend the time you will spend gaining 1000 rep on earning real cash.
Pretty smart system, once you get to understand it
Hmm, it could maybe be worth academic certificates though.
I want a PhD in chemistry ASAP since I answered a question about why old books smell. Kthxbye

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance Can you please change the duplicate closure on meta.stackexchange.com/questions/147420/cancel-a-reopen-request to the new form, and change the duplicate target to be meta.stackexchange.com/questions/193061/… instead?

@SonictheStay-HomeHedgehog what did I say?

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog those special migration scenarios are closed to employees. We do not manually edit the DB either (seriously?). Have dev routes for it if necessary. — Yaakov Ellis ♦ Feb 26 at 22:23

Also, is the ability to migrate posts to other sites even if they are more than 60 days old, or to re-migrate posts already migrated from another site, included with the staff bit, or is this ability manually performed by editing the database whenever it is used? — Sonic the Stay-Home Hedgehog Feb 25 at 20:40

Most employees cannot access dev routes, Btw

Which makes my previous statement correct.
@YaakovEllis Anyway, you asked me to file a new bug report for smart quotes not working right. I did so a while back, would appreciate your response there

Sonic haven't we discussed pinging employees about questions before

hum de dum
week 8 of lockdown
The discussions with the washing machine on which way to rotate first haven't made progress. it still insists going in whichever damn direction it wants, no matter how much I explain that it should be predictable.

The cactuses have left for warmer climates.

Dear people,

We need to just remain cool during this quarantine. There's people out there that are being driven crazy by it.

I had a good conversation with the microwave and toaster today, and the three of us completely agree.

We don't talk to the laundry machine anymore because he turns all our words around. We'll avoid the oven, because of his heated reactions. Only the freezer will remain our friend, because he's cool with all of this.

Uggg ... I'm wondering what a translated log level "Gehandicapte" could possibly mean. Obviously it is disabled

well, I've close voted with a custom reason
I recall we had one for 2020-04-04 as well

11:08 AM
@rene monthly troll?
@rene capte sounds like kaput, which means busted, I think.
@Tinkeringbell having kids help, no dull moment with them. That said, lockdown in Israel is nearly gone, most restrictions lifted.

I expect it to be back and worse in a week.

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance yeah, Gehandicapte is a person with a disability.

12:01 PM
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance I hope that'll work out! There's rumors here about a press conference tomorrow that frankly scare me a bit.

1 hour later…
1:30 PM
@Tinkeringbell What is the scare about? We will all be locked-up for 6 to 8 months. For that purpose the Bijlmerbajes will open again ...

@rene The thing about telling people what they can do, instead of what they can't? nos.nl/nieuwsuur/artikel/… < As soon as that's going to happen, I'm afraid people will just ignore things even further. There's already so many people not sticking to the rules :|

1:45 PM
Oh, no matter what they come up with, we will see a jojo effect where we go in and out lock-down rulings week by week.

I hope not! But yeah, probably :(

3 hours later…
4:37 PM
@rene yeah, it's also in English, handicap...
@Tinkeringbell well, here our PM made a one hour (!) speech yesterday night (9-10 PM) announcing the relief in restrictions, and of course bashing court and the media for trying to "hunt him down" for his crimes.... now that the Corona is almost behind us, he's worried about this again.
His greatest achievement so far on this behalf is spying on all Israeli citizens, knowing where each of us is located at any moment, and now it's all legal as well.
Surely he can use this to blackmail certain people who might be a problem. But meh... what's done is done.
Very common conspiracy theory says that the only reason Gantz (leader of the "other" party) agreed to the union is not the Corona but rather something very fishy that Netanyahu has about him.
He admitted that his phone was hacked in the past, think between the first and second elections on 2019, but never said what was stolen from it.

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance that sounds a good basis to "cooperate" .. :/

@rene yup
This broke the party... literally... it was a union of three smaller parties, now it's only two.

4:52 PM
Don't worry, a democracy with lots of parties can work. We just got another one, so ...

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance I need your hammer if it's available. Just need the duplicate closures fixed to use the modern method on these two questions: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/39364/… and meta.stackexchange.com/questions/10674/…

@Spevacus first one is done. The other one needs a gold-badge in feature-request.

@rene Cheers! I believe Shadow has one in feature request.

yep, just checked, he has indeed

Only 21 people have it, it seems. I suppose I could throw a ping at @Glorfindel as well.

5:11 PM
I might go in and write an answer on all open FR's: After 6 to 8 years what do you think? ... should at least give me the answer count threshold ...

....

@Spevacus happy to use a hammer, I'm already in the DIY mode today

@Glorfindel 'preciated.
Oh, sorry, missed one @Glorfindel meta.stackexchange.com/questions/147731/…
You're a saint.

Hmm... I dug up that burninate request from a little while ago. I wonder if there are any more universally-accepted ones that could be tackled.

5:21 PM
@Glorfindel what did you "repair"

@rene I replaced an outdoor lamp.
@Spevacus there are definitely more, but it's better to wait until tomorrow or so.
We don't want to clutter the homepage too much.

@Glorfindel Ah, that is useful now that it stays light a lot longer ...

That was my concern as well. I figured [friends] was easy because it was only 6 total.

@rene it's even worse; I have to wait until the evening until I know whether it works or not. Reminds me of the 6-8 hour build time of some programs ...

lol

5:24 PM
@Spevacus I used to spread them over multiple days.

@Glorfindel Not a bad way to go about it. Not like it all has to happen in one day. Lots of these really old ones aren't exactly pressing.

Burninate requests are almost never pressing :)
I usually only do them when I'm bored

@Spevacus I'd strongly encourage spreading them out :D

Meta's been pretty quiet these last few days (barring Yaakov and the others completing some bug fixes).

I once nuked a tag, 5 posts at a time... over several months

5:26 PM
@Aibobot Will do!

@Spevacus quiet isn't necessarily bad :D

@Spevacus Don't jinx it!

Bah!

on the short term - I think we're in holding pattern for the new mod agreement's final release, and to see how the mod council goes

And others in "focus groups" waiting on responses that the pandemic has delayed.

5:28 PM
Will be interesting to see. Further progress on the review queues would also be neat to hear about, but I imagine that won't come until later.

@Aibobot I am my bot is fixing broken images on Server Fault one suggested edit per 36 hours at a time ...

@Glorfindel ow

2 hours later…
7:20 PM
@Glorfindel with a script?

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance I followed the script in the manual, does that count?

7:32 PM
@Glorfindel no. I'm disappointed. Expected at least a bot with basic AI that will replace lamps.
:P
Or.... This!

Pro-tip: If you intend to use your phone as a webcam - the image is going to be good, but do be sure to put it on the charger.

8:28 PM
@JohnDvorak thanks for the tip!

@Spevacus I generally don't make such requests unless either 1. the question has been bumped by organic activity, or 2. a duplicate target needs to be changed. Otherwise, such a change will unnecessarily bump the post, as well as wipe out the public notice of the fact that there was a consensus to close it long ago and make it look like a recent unilateral decision (unless someone bothers to check timeline or revisions).
"closed 8 years ago by user1, user2, user3, user4, user5" vs. "closed 1 hour ago by hammerer[tag]"

10:29 PM
@SonictheStay-HomeHedgehog That makes sense. I'll adopt that strategy in the future.
