It is really good to see this community-building; can I intrude with a quick question; we've tweaked the site to make things like replies easier - other than the visual glitches, is that "working", or is it a thing of pure-ugly? Just after some feedback...
@marcgravell You mean the arrow on hover at the end of the message? I like it. The only thing I may suggest is a bit more separation between the other icons and the flag link, though I haven't had any issues misclicking.
Almost any mouse over seems to trigger some fancy effect somewhere in the viewport. Also, I'm not sure I like my gravatar bouncing endlessly till I do something about it.
@Marc I like the quick bar too, but now we have two separate ways to do something and the only difference is that one of them has "flags" and some context info
@marc I think the quick bar should have an outlined star and reply to, (to indicate that you haven't clicked) and should be removed from the "context menu" thing.
I read on Meta that the reply arrow is designed to be like Twitter's. I don't use Twitter, and found it to be not intuitive at all. But I'm guessing that most people are Twitter users and wouldn't be bothered.
@devinb oddly enough, the first thing I stole (er, borrowed) was the outlined/filled star from SO. When I brought it over here our designer swapped it for this golden/silver one. Should I try the hollow one again - see if he notices?
@lassevkarlsen Yah, I do as well, though I'm not color blind. Recently, gmail changed their interface a bit which rendered the Perfect Dark userstyle I was using worthless.
I'm usually running many different StackExchange sites in Firefox using tabs (using ReloadEvery to update every 5 minutes). Right now to check for activity I have to manually click on the tab to see if the envelope is lighted.
How about making the icon on the tab or the text change in some way,...
Goodness, it drives me nuts. I don't mind being notified about edits to a favorite question, but I do mind having to go looking for it myself. (In fact, I do want to know about the edits.)
@lanceroberts Yup, end of the month. I'm taking some stuff to a friend's garage, one car load at a time. That much less to haul down the stairs with the big stuff.
@Lance - for when the "up" key isn't enough ;p But yes, the pencil icon could be made available for edit. When you have edited it could also be the route to see the history.
Everywhere you turn today, you hear people talk about how much they need to save or how important it is to find a good deal on things "in this economy". They use phrases like "now more than ever" and "in these uncertain times". It seems to be a lot of doom and gloom.
Is there really a good reaso...
lol I just slapped my tummy and the cat looked up towards the kitchen. When she saw that I wasn't in the kitchen making noise, and hence there was no chance I was about to pop open another can of wet food, she went back to sleep.
Though I also have short and concise, not directly answering the question, answers that sometimes gets a lot of upvotes: stackoverflow.com/questions/322653/…
I only read MSO every so often. I'm reading lots of talk about SCITE and FGITW but have no idea what these are.
Can someone please define and explain these abbreviations?
Well, it's called nth-child(), so use the n variable and work with it (you can do basic arithmetic on it + - * / although only multiplying is necessary here):
div:nth-child(4n)
Also, for pseudo-classes, use :, not ..
The UI isn't updated yet, and the error handling is minimal, but if anyone wants to play a game of "Not a real question" with fresh data from the API, go to notarealquestion.appspot.com/api/{SITE} where {SITE} is one of meta-stackoverflow, stackoverflow, serverfault, superuser, gaming, cooking
@hobodave Hello! I haven't done much on the cooking site, though I believe that's where I found a link to the perfect french fry recipe. I think commenting in the only thing I've done so far. :)
Thomas: But then, why does it show the reputation of the parent site (Super User) and show in the activity of the meta site that it sums up to 55 reputation? (I earned 215 reputation on Super User part from that)
Thomas: It would make me think that it's an easier way to get reputation, SU is not as active as SO at the moment thus there wouldn't me much to gain extra from the meta.
But this could be misused if the same occurs on the SO meta.
Ideally, you shouldn't have to move the keys around. Of course, that's not so easy while you're still learning it and it doesn't let you refer to the keys for help. :)
I was great at multitasking as a college DJ during the morning shift. That was before HDD based systems. Well, they were just coming out at the time, but we couldn't afford 'em. Lots of fun.
@TomWij I think I've seen kits that basically consisted of stickers with clear backgrounds. So no need to find something that fits your keyboard. Even that isn't as common these days, what with "ergonomic" keyboards and what not.
@GeorgeMarian Ah, might me an idea... But the stickers have to be of a good quality then, my first Rubik's Cube had the stickers coming off them, there I learned that stickers don't always stick in place... :D
"I've got your daddy right here. He's only got one eye. And, two little uncles for you, too." I'm so glad I finally gave Aqua Teen Hunger Force a chance.
That post contains information towards moderators, I guess that looking how other moderators perform might be a good idea too. You can try to contact those or Jeff Atwood if you have issues....
I've read something about a moderator chat too but I can't seem to find that information in my history, uh well... Congrats anyway! :-)
@hobodave: I want to become a moderator on Super User, but I'll guess I'll just wait for it... :-)
It would be rude to ask that out of the blue, I'll just do my best and hope for someone up there to notice it... xD
@GeorgeMarian: Yeah, I like mixing music too. But I do it completely software based just for personal fun... I don't want to buy all the music and all the hardware needed, although it would be amazing to spin at some club or party.
@tomwij I never got into mixing. Though I had the interest, the financial out lay for good turntables was too much for me. Maybe some day. That said, the software based approach makes great sense. Especially now that my new computer doesn't suck.
Though, I'm still using my monitor's speakers. lol
@TomWij What software are you using?
That reminds me, I still haven't bought any controllers. Man, so many interests, so little money and time...
Sing&See shows your pitch real-time, I know of an application on the iPhone that's even better (Pitch Primer if I'm not wrong about the name) but sadly I don't have an iPhone.
KaraokeParty.com is also nice for learning to sing in pitch.
@GeorgeMarian: My main thing is studying Computer Science at the university, I keep these different things in mind for when that fails... I would probably do something in the music world if my computer science career fails or if it doesn't work out as I want it to.
