also it's almost a decade old, pretty sure we don't actually need to keep it :)

Yup
@HarryGindi there we are. Now we wait

@ArtOfCode That's weird :-/

Bug, it's trying to use SE chat IDs in MSE chat
so whoever has 121520 on MSE is privileged, but I'm not

@ArtOfCode Related to Nick's Tweet?

There we are

Where?

I mean I pinned it

I pinned it before you got here...

oh oops

Weird.

I didn't see it 0_0

Mobile?

nope
and I'm not on a terribad connection either. Quite the contrary

@Catija no, actually - that auth change was a two-line fix, so not quite mayhem
Change I'm making at the moment makes privilege lists use network IDs instead of chat server IDs so that we can be more chat-server-agnostic... 1000+ lines changed and counting

Wow. Nice.

@ArtOfCode makes sense....

it hasn't caused enough problems yet, which makes me suspicious that it's going to dump all the problems on me when I think I've done it

Damn
I don't even like IPS, I just don't like seeing them treated second class.
Oh well.

That's just how it is
and quite honestly - I don't think SO is ready for it yet ;)

s/SO/Twitter/

naw SO as in the company

Ah
I thought the company was Stack Exchange Inc.

Whether they're ready for twitter...
we will need to see next time there's drama.
@forest Stack Exchange Internet Services does business as Stack Overflow ;p
So If I'm in a good mood, I call em SE. If I'm not, I call em SO :p

4:44 AM
heh

@JourneymanGeek Stack Overflow Internet Services -> Stack Exchange, Inc -> Stack Exchange, Inc DBA Stack Overflow. Simplified.

@ArtOfCode and kinda one of the things that annoys me a little :p

I just call 'em SE, cuz that's easy to stick to

5:01 AM
I mostly call them that.... Except if I think they messed up

Which they most certainly did.

(but then again I think the 'rename' is a bit emblematic of the broader issues they had)

Does anyone here have an example of how to have feeds post tweets in a chatroom?
or maybe a room where they do this?

10:18 AM
@rene What you need is an RSS feed of the tweets, then you can configure it by going to the room's info and clicking the "feeds" tab

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog that is not something twitter themselves offer, right? I need a 3rd party service for that rss feed.

10:41 AM
@rene nope
there's services that do that tho

A: Time for some more swag!

Journeyman GeekI guess I was a little short of time. I was thinking what to do. It had to have a dog. It had to be about time. I was trying to build a doghouse time machine, but that's not what I ended up with I didn't really notice any physical lego entries despite all this time, and I thought back to my time...

If anyone is curious about my old school clock tower...

ACS likes its clocktowers ;p

There already was a lego entry (SO logo)
Other than that: Yay! Something handmade ;)

I'm finding the answer spread on this interesting. meta.stackexchange.com/questions/319229/…
(also looks like most of the community thinks its a terrible idea so far - or at least most MSE users who answered)

I think it's a good idea in theory. Likely to end up terrible.
If the company were honest and trustworthy, I'd say go ahead.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Manually reported answer (94): Can cycling adversely affect male fertility? by Yelena Hopper on bicycles.SE

I'd trust SE with swag distribution. Less so when it comes to the company maintaining their PR.

12:26 PM
well, they had a few partnerships in the past

If that takes the form of "We appreciate your participation in {tag} and want to send you something for it" I think it might be fine
on a strictly opt in basis

That seems fine to me, personally
but other than the source of the swag that's roughly how SE works

hence strictly opt in
besides that I doubt anyone would wanna send me anything, I'd decline such an offer, but I wouldn't be opposed to being shown the offer

Well,quite honestly - it depends on the thing
I'd never say no to swag

eh
SE is the only company I'd honestly wear swag from

12:34 PM
That's besides the point ;p
(and technically my AU and win 8 T shirts are only vaguely SE)

If you can no longer ask questions on a site (because of a ban) can you still ask questions on the site's meta (given that you have sufficient rep)?

I think so

Myeah, I see the OP also asked on the Meta where they were banned, so that works.
But it was suggested he take his question to MSE

1:18 PM
@Bart I wonder what their question looked like. It is no longer in SEDE so it must have been roomba'd before last week

Myeah, couldn't find it either. I have a hunch about the quality/nature, but well, that's for their Meta to figure out.

that free speech rambling ...

the funny thing there is...
OP knows he's wrong and how
just that it shouldn't apply to him

"Logic is only for other people, I can do what I want"

1:31 PM
I offered three links out of search results for "free speech"

every time I hear someone lamenting free speech around these parts I can't help but think of this:
I mean yeah it's reductive and kind of caustic but also it fits

There are 2 online pet peeves I have. The "free speech" card, and the "no copyright intended" (sic) and "fair use" card.
And in other news, I've been trying to install Tensorflow for about 4 hours now, and it still won't work. ARGH!!!

i wish there was a better and official way to do public domain
having to fiddle with licenses when I just want to say "do whatever, idc" is annoying

@Bart it won't run Win XP ...

@rene if only that were the problem.

Hahaha, "great minds" and all that

I'm pretty sure OP knows exactly why he's in trouble
just dosen't think it should apply to him

Oh yeah, think so as well. I just couldn't resist answering
The whole "first amendment" thing reminds me of a US exchange student years ago here in Geneva. He was totally surprised that his constitution and the amendments were of no influence over here. "So you guys don't have free speech?" :D

I see @Bart got into the pannenkoek state of mind ...

That's my permanent state of mind
Although I'm still the old-fashioned pannekoek type.

Its like all y'all are talking another language ;)

@Bart I checked here first: onzetaal.nl/taaladvies/pannekoek-pannenkoek ...
Yes, that is cheating ...

I don't know if there's still the "groot dictee" on television in NL, but I don't think I'd do well anymore.

@Bart Nope, millenials killed that.

@Tinkeringbell the millienials seem to kill more things than a colonial on safari ;)

Hah. Good one ;)
Though I don't really kill things. I guess I make for a lousy millennial ;)

I've never had avocado toast.
I'm rather fond of the classic cheese, or nuritional yeast + olive oil on toast.

I don't think I ever ate an avocado.

0_0
Its not half bad with a squeeze of lime and some coriander.
or with sugar ...
I mean
WHAT KIND OF MILLENIAL ARE YOU?
get on with the program of cultural mass murder and avocado toast eating...

I'm apparently a really, really lazy millennial ;)
I am of the kind that can't find an apartment to buy, does that count?

2:29 PM
@Tinkeringbell apparently we killed that too
by not being able to afford it

I don't think we killed the housing market. Things are overheated over here ;)

WE KILL EVERYTHING WE TOUCH!

In fact, as I recall, a lot of experienced physicists contributed a lot of their time - for free - to try and explain why your question didn't make sense. The discussion was marginally less productive than talking to a wall. — John Rennie 16 mins ago

wait, is it the same Jmac?
aww. No

@Bart unless he nuked his MSE account

Someone will probably correct me otherwise.

Or not

Pfff, I give up on Tensorflow. I wasted far too much time on that today :( Time to shoot some people in the face (in Overwatch, don't worry)

I doubt SE will disclose even in a hint such thing.

Hi, I posted here a few days ago, that I would like to start a community project improving Area 51. I wanted to propose my idea on MSE soon and wondered whether you might help me to review my post and 1) to improve my ideas and 2) to correct spelling mistakes (I am not native English speaker).

Hi! I'm wondering if dnSpy can ever get ported to OSX. The dnspy devs say they're not going to do it, so I was wondering if any community or person might be interested in doing it. Anyone have any ideas about who might be interested?
If anyone has any ideas, please ping me
Thanks!

that's... not something you should be flagging, folks

@Tinkeringbell this got flagged

@ArtOfCode Ah okay :)

@ArtOfCode And rightfully so. How dare anyone ask for our help. FOR SHAME!

Hey, been a while since we had flags
Why are you so anti-climactic?

@Bart I wanna star it but you'd get spoiled

It's the time of year to give your stars to those who need it most. I'm good.

7:45 PM
\o/ It only took me 8 hours of so, but I finally have Tensorflow up and running. Holy crap.
*or so

Okay, what can it do? Make your heart rate go up?

It certainly achieved that. It made me swear as well. But it's supposed to help me with machine learning

You'll now teach it swear words ...

oh no... he's getting smarter.

Don't worry, there's no chance I'm getting smarter. That ship has sailed.

7:56 PM
With this machine learning I have the impression we foremost learn a lot ...

It's impressive to see how much research in my domain now uses machine learning approaches.

Isn't that because we are lazy and hope the machines take over?

Haha, perhaps. But it achieves spectacular results that I don't think we could have easily algorithmically solved.

Like pausing Tetris because that's how you 'can play for as long as possible without losing'?

8:12 PM
Haha, that's your strategy?
Not sure that counts as "intelligent"

8:41 PM
It's one of those things you don't need machine learning for ;)

@MEE Hi, I wanted to draw attention to my prior message. Is it ok to post a link to a Google Docs-document in this room and to ask about your opinion regarding to it before posting it on MSE/ask you to comment on it?

8:54 PM
@MEE just post it on MSE. We'll redact there. I'm not a native speaker either so I'm useless ...

MEE
@rene ok
BTW do you think it would be ok to title it "Introducing Area52 - Help me to develop a better site staging zone" or does this sound too official?

@MEE that sounds way too scary ....

MEE
ok, maybe "Let us (the community) build a new site staging zone for Stack Exchange" then?

better I think.

9:19 PM
I'm testing a proof of concept for extracting the stack-snippets console from the demo frame. Right now it only does log(). If someone has a second, go here: snippetdemo-env.zssagtjfvz.us-east-2.elasticbeanstalk.com, mousewheel over the demo area, and click through the tree view on the console panel.

@canon works, but clicking on the arrow to expand the tree doesn't - it only expands if you click the text

Should be all set.
