Morning
How is everyone?
user202362
hay fever ... going for an antihistamine pill soon
1:14 AM
That sucks
1:40 AM
I have a stomach ache that's pretty bad if I'm not curled up into a ball.
It's been a couple hours now.
user202362
Oo :(
pats kiity cat Hope you feel better man! Stomach aches suck

Anyone ever had to order methods in a class automatically in a way that's not alphabetical?
Like I want to order methods in a certain order but I've got a ton of classes with the same method names and don't want to do it manually
Eww
yeah.... it's less than ideal, but I'd like to get it done
If only banks could standardise how they work out how much money to lend to people
user202362
@JamesENL function overloading?
sadly no... it turns out that most banks like calculating things like Net Income, Living Expenses and max loan amount, but they like calculating them in spectacularly different ways. So basically we have a Java class per bank that contains all the logic for that particular bank with private methods doing the actual calculation.
I want to reorder the private methods so that the method calculating gross income is first, followed by taxable income then net income, then tax etc etc etc
I know the order I want, but Eclipse doesn't want to do anything other than alphabetical, and Mr Google has return zilch
3:05 AM
Happy editing. :)
Well, that or learn perl. 😈
I might see if Ruby can do something
Mr Turing suggests it can. So can assembly language. Which I don't recommend.
Hmmm yeah, I might steer clear of assembly
Are you reasonably adroit with any real dynamic language? Use that one then.
But don't use Java, god's teeth man.
Nor for text hacking I mean.
I wouldn't dare
3:08 AM
I had a PhD guy who only knew Java. It took him infinite time to do little routine script-like tasks.
You just have to get all your methods into an array, then spit them out again in a prescribed order.
Shouldn't be too hard <-- Famous last words
About a 10-minute task, assuming you already know the language you're using for it.
Which means 30 minutes because everything always takes thrice as long as you hope.
I'm going to bed. If you don't have anything by tomorrow, hit me up.
:P I'll see what I can get done
Good luck, and don't let the garbage collector bite.

If I want to post a question on Meta (of one of Beta SE site) about proposing Favicon for site then what image-scaling criteria should I mention?

@JNat hey, do your super powers include global reset of display name and avatar or a user, across all sites? stackexchange.com/users/6836632/jm97?tab=accounts
He is impersonating "Moderator" on many sites, with SE logo as avatar.
(one, two, three, four) - and probably more, though not in all accounts.
Hey Shadow
hey Magi
I found some truly scary stuff
Oh @JNat also I personally don't believe this, but even if he's right probably suspension is better for now, to prevent the hacker/troll from using his account. No?
A company that scrapes and aggregates careers information and link visiting information from all over the web and aggregates it in a credit-score like "J-score" to predict how likely it is you're looking for a new job, and then sells this information to employers.
10:37 AM
@ShadowWizard Haven't had a look at that, but animuson had, and the user contacted us in the meantime too. We'll see where that goes
@ShadowWizard Also, done
Apparently through facebook cookie tracking they can purchase a pretty extensive profile of most of all user's browser history.
Also relevant to JNat
I opened a Meta.SE discussion about whether or not it violates the ToS on SO
@JNat awesome, thanks!
@Magisch well, Facebook tracks your activity and sells it to anyone, that's no secret. Google also keeps track of every move you make, including in real life using the mobile phone GPS, that's also not a secret anymore. So adding SO Jobs to this (there is no more Careers, it's an old term that was replaced by "Jobs") isn't such a big issue IMO.
@ShadowWizard I thought SE wanted to not be scraped by dubious third parties for information
@ShadowWizard Maybe if they see my answers on Science&Fiction Hasbro will hire me?
10:43 AM
And the additional implications of using this against the user's will to provide a predicition on how likely it is that they'll leave their current job
@Magisch maybe they don't want, but can't really fight it.
@Derpy might be! :D
They're most likely going to use the metadata (e.g. your SO activity during a typical work day). The data is freely available in the data dump, it seems unlikely any ToS can protect us against this kind of use — Pëkka 2 hours ago
@ShadowWizard firewall rules and lawsuits are both an option
SE and sites like linkedIn have an interest in this not coming to pass
Pëkka probably hit it on the head here, as long as they're not using any of that profile information stuff...
@Magisch still, can't see any big issue here that really needs action from SE side. Most they can do, probably, is send a formal letter to the scrapers.
10:45 AM
@ShadowWizard They can firewall-block scraping, and they could sue them if indeed their use violates ToS
I think suing is the worst worst worst worst worst case scenario. Do you really think SE wants to engage in a legal battle?
If I was SE or linked In, I'd sue anyone trying this out of business
May be expensive, but widespread adoption of such an app could kill off SE's business model
When it becomes a liability to be active on SE, people will stop doing that in swaths
... how? It's some random startup that probably no one has ever heard of. And is so inaccurate no one should even look at it. I doubt it would ever be widely adopted.
Never underestimate human stupidity
Still, I would give it a 99% of failure. There's nothing there.
10:50 AM
Shady Background check products are also wildly inaccurate and at best misleading, yet they're used all the time.

@bjb568 let me guess, you are posting this now during a class, from your phone? ;)
No laptops, no handys, no calculators. The only permitted thing were pencils and a notebook during his lectures

@ShadowWizard :D
I've seen that question on many sites, so I guess all beta sites have in the tour the question "How to prevent unicorns from eating daisies." (And on graduated sites the question in tour is picked from the actual questions on the site.)
Nice thing is that on gardening.SE asking about unicorns eating daisies seems almost as an on-topic question.

Pfff, this @AdamLear deleting questions while I'm leaving polite comments. Such a bully.
@Bart it's okay, the user can still see it... assuming they have the question open somewhere
:D Yeah, should be fine
And I don't want my politeness to be visible for too long anyway. I've got a reputation to uphold.
Yeah, I figured you needed some time to sit down and wait till the momentary desire to be polite passes. Happens to the best of us.
Found it! meta.stackexchange.com/questions/284474/… - you're very polite, @Bart! :P

wait... @Bart how come you don't own bart.com yet? :D
Oooh, that's available ...
yup, was taken in the past though
Probably the previous Bart got too much headache out of it.... :P
Ah yeah, seems Godaddy wants at least 4k$ for it
whoa, lol

Myeah
I'll start a fundraiser

Well, you can take over bart.gov

But what will you give those who donate? Cookies?
3:20 PM
For some reason, it's lunchtime for me but the skewl is holding us in class for 20m for unknown reasons.
Students say there may be a dog outside.
@bjb568 natural enemy of the cat. Stay inside.
@ShadowWizard glass-shaped cookies?
@ShadowWizard bart.ninja is still available
@Bart The report is now that there are students rather than a dog outside.
Those two are easily confused of course

Lunch just ended but I still haven't been let out to lunch.
Lunch is, fortunately, guaranteed by law.

@bjb568 hot dog?
And did you eventually eat?
@Bart yeah, for $5 donations. For $100 you'll have to try harder, and for $1000 give your real glasses, signed of course.
@rene you're not alone, it's like that forever (at least since the split), and still no idea who's behind this. Not important enough to bother too much over it though, unless it will oscillate.
OK, for now I assume it is not me then
:)
!!/blame
@ShadowWizard It's rene's fault.
I disagree :)

@bjb568 and you had extra time for lunch? Or did you eat during class?
Class was prolonged and wasted. Lunch was regular lengthed.
