@TimPost I think it's worth calling out (for those without access to that talk) they they were saying it took them that long to realize how much safer and inclusive this space actually was than they realized, and so they should feel safe. (As opposed to it taking that long to feel brave enough to call out issues in an environment that wasn't that safe or open to listening.). But you're dead on- we should be telegraphing that early.
I spent part of my day thinking about how to tell @Jaydles that we don't actually talk to eachother here, but simply post little bits that we probably would have written more about if a space for them existed :) Hitting a wall with it though.
@jmac Interesting, I'm the opposite. As a normal user, I also participated a ton on meta, but since becoming a CM I've chosen to not speak up on meta a lot of times I previously would have because I like to see the community (possibly with the help of elected mods) get there on their own. There have surely been a few times when it would've been better for me to be more active but I can't think of a specific example off the top of my head.
