Q: Anyone looking for some [arrow-keys]?

AstroCBThe arrow-keys tag seems fairly ambiguous. Arrow keys don't strike me as something that can explicitly be a problem (and if they are, it's probably better for Super User). Glancing through the first couple of questions seems to suggest that it doesn't really add anything meaningful to the questio...

Apparently people like arrow keys.

I really hate this recent trend of making F* keys require a key combination, and stupid crap like "adjust brightness" the default.
I don't really have to toggle my bluetooth radio power that often...

But you can

Heh

@JasonC Click the checkbox in system preferences.

@bjb568 Nope, it's in the BIOS on a lot of these machines, and many don't have an option to swap.

Oh, you're not on OSX…
Get a mac!

6:55 PM
@bjb568 >-(

But if I get a Mac I won't have my SysRq key any more. Then what will I do?

Never heard of that…

buy a real keyboard

@bjb568 $("#bjb-comment").replace("OSX", "OS X");

not use a SysRq key? What is it for anyways?

6:56 PM
all the niffy things that you can do with a SysRq key

@AstroCB Both work.

@JanDvorak Officially, nothing. And everything.

ALSO Y U JQUERY
NUUUUUUUUUU
JQUERY SUX

$("#bjb").replace("<dev id='null'>")

NO USE JQUERY

6:56 PM
The magic SysRq key is a key combination understood by the Linux kernel, which allows the user to perform various low-level commands regardless of the system's state. It is often used to recover from freezes, or to reboot a computer without corrupting the filesystem. Much like Sun Microsystems's Open Firmware (OpenBoot), this key combination provides access to powerful tools for software development and disaster recovery. In this sense, it can be considered a form of escape sequence. Principal among the offered commands are means to forcibly unmount file systems, kill processes, recover keyboard...

Don't need that on mac anyway…

System request (often abbreviated SysRq or Sys Req) is a key on keyboards for PCs that has no standard use. This key can be traced back to the operator interrupt key used on IBM 3270-type console keyboards of the IBM System/370 mainframe computer, which was used to cause the operating system such as VM/370 or MVS to allow the console to give input to the operating system. == §History == Introduced by IBM with the PC/AT, it was intended to be available as a special key to directly invoke low-level operating system functions with no possibility of conflicting with any existing software. A special...
^ That's the real story.

@bjb568 Apple has never used it without a space.
@bjb568 document.getElementById("bjb-comment").innerText.replace("OSX", "OS X");

How exactly do you invoke it? For me it overlaps with Print Screen (yes, my keyboard has enough space to type that out full)

@AstroCB Hm… ok.

6:59 PM
@JanDvorak shift + sysrq + command key

It did used to be Mac OS X, though, but they dropped the "Mac" after Lion.

@AstroCB INNERTEXT IS AN IE THING THAT ISN'T IN STANDARDS AND DOESN'T HAVE CROSS-BROWSER COMPATIBILITY!

@bjb568 ...no it's not. (?)

s/innerText/textContent

Huh.
I've always used .innerText without any problem whatsoever.

7:01 PM
Nothing!

I seem to understand the confusion.
It is mobile version, not in the desktop one

meh
Does it work on FF?

F* FF. Wait, no, that's not my usual advice.
F* IE. Use the standard.

@bjb568 No, but it works on Chrome and Safari.
Which makes FF the outlier.

7:05 PM
Go fix all your code.

@bjb568 I've been living a lie.
grep innerText

7:17 PM
I've used innetText on Chrome quite heavily...

textContent is similar to innerText but it's part of the standard.

meh... I have to replace a ton of them anyways (someone was smart enough to use var elem = $("<select text=" something.innerText ">) that chokes on quotes)

$("<select>",{text:something.textContent})

Call it compilation anyways

I guess it could be... since it is a compilation of still frames & audio.

Anyone can go to my profile? For me it says "too many redirects"...

@nicael disable tamper monkey

don't have it

well, obviously is local, because I don't see it

we obviously need keyboard shortcuts for the review

Q: Answers with score of -3 or lower (on normal sites) and -8 or lower (on meta sites) are no longer greyed out after the series of redesigns

nicaelJust look at this list on SO, this list on MSE, this list on M&TV, this list on UX, etc. In short all the sites which had a recent redesign or relatively recently graduated sites with those new SVGifyied designs... Before all those redesigns, the answers with score of <-3 on normal (main) sites ...

I wrote that for the H&I queue, but it's actually really useful for low-volume queues because you can leave it running in a tab and it will automatically stop if there's a post to review.

Q: Blow-ups and blow-downs of $\mathbb P^3$

CregIf one blows up $\mathbb P^2$ twice and blows down once, then he may get $\mathbb P \times \mathbb P$. I am wondering if the same thing can be done for $\mathbb P^3$ and $\mathbb P \times \mathbb P \times \mathbb P$. In this case, the blow-up centers can be points and smooth curves and blow-ups...

A: Help us test the shiny new "User Activity" page! (Plus a bunch of new features.)

nicaelIn the community-hider, this phrase: New sites that you join will be linked to your other communities by default. might confuse users. It seems that be "other" you mean "visible", could it be stated more clearly?

Don't I just get the wording correctly, or does it really sound confusing?

it's fine
