12:02 AM
here goes nothing...
yeah, that was nothing all right :-(
@rchern The test did fail! :-(
my polling is not polling

Obvious sock is obvious...
I'm really close though

svn instead of dvcs?

really close != there
cracks whip
(;

LOL
@RogerPate I'm an SVN guy... feel free to bash me for it :-)

Just not on the feet please!!!

12:06 AM
I'll just have to learn more about hg's svn integration :)

@RogerPate Going to help me fix my JSOn poller? ;-)
Found one issue, testing again...

The poller's not even running :-(

Or, it's throwing an exception

@TheUnhandledException That's... ironic...

get_new_messages_for_rooms() must be throwing an exception

12:13 AM
@JoshsSocks maybe you just need some ironing.

@rchern noooooo!!!! don't make him wash me again!!!! :-(

Having a sockpuppet is far more entertaining than is should be

test?

...
Until I see some real data I'm changing the poll interval to 5 seconds
OH YEAH THERE'S THE DATA!
well
for the first request only :-(
AH HA
get_new_messages_for_room_ids(241) called
sending request: {"r241"=>442107}
received data: {"r241":{}}
get_new_messages_for_room_ids(241) called
sending request: {"r241"=>nil}

12:29 AM
o:

@last_update = rdata['t'] should be:
@last_update = rdata['t'] if !rdata['t].nil?
another test...

sending request: {"r241"=>442113}
received data: {"r241":{"e":[{"event_type":1,"time_stamp":1288139540,"content":"another test...","id":442114,"user_id":131541,"user_name":"The Unhandled Exception","room_id":241,"room_name":"XMPP","message_id":254684}],"t":442114,"d":1}}

Sweet
Almost there!
(test)
...test...

12:55 AM
@TheUnhandledException if it's ruby, I won't be any help
for some reason I got the impression you were using ruby, but I don't see why now

1 hour later…
2:21 AM
@RogerPate Sorry, I stepped AFK. I am using Ruby

gimme 6-8 weeks to learn the language and I'll help

I'm using Ruby because: 1. It has a Ruby gem which enables easy creation of XMPP components. 2. PHP, my favorite language, is not well suited to long-running multi-threaded tasks, and 3. I know Ruby a lot better than Perl
@RogerPate LOL, sweet!
But i thought "6-8 weeks" was a completion estimate ;-)

I'll've completely learned the language ;)

Ah, of course, silly me :-)
OH SWEET, IT WORKS NOW!
Well, almost
usernames are lost, but, messages show up in my Jabber client!

What about messages from me?

2:27 AM
Yes, those too
/me dances

love the sock avatar, have since I saw the initial Meta post

Haha, thanks
Crudely done, but gets the point across :-)
I still don't believe he has 181 rep, lol

2:59 AM
How are you handling logging in as that's openid on the site, but xmpp has no openid support?
ah, authentication mentioned on the main stack overflow page.
meta.stackoverflow that is.

@ewanm89: maybe I missed it, link?

ah, I was looking for a question title about logging in

10 hours later…
1:25 PM
@ewanm89 Sorry, I was AFK for the rest of the night
@ewanm89 I'm not sure yet. In the beginning I'm probably going to build an XMPP bot who will handle authentication for me, where you IM it your session ID or something. But might have to build a proxy web page or something, so the server can start a session with your OpenID provider.
Ultimately, expect a StackOverflow question when I get to that point :-) For now, XMPP chat is read-only
XMPP Status Update: Read support is now basically working! Has some major bugs, but, you can open a Jabber client and see what's in this very room!

Next things to do, which I'll do this afternoon: Clean up the code, add some comments, commit to Trac and then add Trac tickets for the next steps

2:15 PM
(testing...)
Looks like the script stops working after a few hours though, odd.
