2:40 AM

3:27 AM
is customizing the hell out of SO's CSS

4:15 AM
is making rather futile attempts to reach 10k, just because.

10k is so overrated

I must resume my climb towards 3k sometime.

O_o
I'm totally confounded by the overcomplicated answers to this question.

A: how Remove certain character at Front and back of a varchar

mootinatorIf you don't mean exactly this, you should probably be more clear what your intended result is: DECLARE @foo VARCHAR(32) SET @foo = '%ABC?;888123?' SELECT SUBSTRING(@foo, 7, LEN(@foo) - 7) Result: 888123

Now none of my screenshots will match what the site actually looks like and I'll get a million comments along the lines of "Where are you seeing this? My site doesn't look like that!"
It'll be transmogrify all over again!

I never know what to do with "Err, stackoverflow already answered that" type answers.

There is no Meta user named Woodchuck. Was his account deleted over this? One duplicate and it gets your account nuked?!? It's this type of moderator abuse that I've frankly seen too much of.
Yay for unjustified outrage!

@Bart I'm tempted to create a sock-puppet named Woodchuck now...

I'm kind of disappointed that you haven't already

Where's Crickets when you need him.
D:

6:00 AM
@jadarnel27 want to swap those people with my clients who use their own name as the subject of their emails? The amount of emails titled "Marco" is beyond annoying.

I did have a sock-puppet but I can't remember the login credentials for it. I'm pretty sure I used Mailinator, so it probably got destroyed...

Started to do work. Got distracted by learning stuff. Annoying.

I created it to test something then by the time it was actually created I had forgotten what I wanted to test.

Hehe. My sockpuppet actually comes in handy from time to time. Not so much on the SO front, but it shows me that people are actually sending email to my Yahoo account. Never ever check it.

will now demonstrate how to make 800 people in MSO chat think you're talking to them.
Hey Josh, are you here?

6:02 AM
SO has 7463 other users with "Michael" in their display names. I need to find something more unique.

Don't worry. In your case the h is obviously silent.

Obviously? I've been pronouncing it me-shell in my head this whole time.

@animuson That screenshot's vote count is a few pixels too far to the right.

There are always exceptions of course @mootinator ... let's just call you your own unique little snowflake ...

Can't decide whether soy milk somewhat tasty or evil incarnate.

6:07 AM
@mootinator I look down upon people who pronounce my name me-shell almost as much as I look down upon people who call me Mike.

There's a question about that somewhere on Meta...

@michaelb958 Racist against (French) Canadians eh?

Soy milk is very tasty!! (Trust me, I drink it regularly.)
@mootinator No, I just like to have one and only one name to listen for.

A: What's up with the new CSS?

Mechanical snailThe new style objectively sucks! ☺ I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few voting widgets in my time. The thinner font makes the vote counts look off-center. Example (colored lines added to demonstrate the pixels are off-center): The digits are too far to the right: Th...

It's actually the arrows that are offset to the left by 1 pixel, due to putting a 26px-wide arrow inside a 41px-wide box. The text is perfectly centered. The arrows are just, eh... a mess... — animuson Dec 15 '12 at 20:57

I always wonder how they milk soy though. Must be the most terrible job ever! How do you herd soy to begin with?

6:09 AM
@michaelb958 I just bought some. Trying to figure out what elimination diet if any will get rid of my heartburn.
I can't not have cereal for breakfast though. That would be wrong.

@mootinator Cereal FTW!

Fixed with .votecell .vote a { background-position-x: 1px !important }

6:29 AM
Turns out there was also a question already:
2
Q: Tiny layout bug: vote count

usrOn a question page the vote count is slightly offset to the right. This is very much nitpicking of me but it drives me crazy. I have OCD. So I'm reporting it. (I drew alignment markers to make sure I'm not crazy.)

I'm doomed now, right?

For sure!
I wonder what people thought who were sitting on flight 666 to HEL on Friday the 13th though :D

1 hour later…
1:26 PM
@Bart Haha, wow! That is awful. There's already a field for that information!
@mootinator Brown?

\o/
Oded just moved up the list of my favorite SE employees.

Cownadian @mootinator?

Br0wnC0w.ca

You realize what you'll have to register now, don't you?

thedailymail.com isn't available?
I'm concerned that @jadarnel27 hasn't registered br0wn.me.

I'm concerned about this as well, @mootinator.
@animuson It seems weird that there aren't any buttons on that revision to change the "view" of the edit.
I thought that only happened with tag-only revisions.

@jadarnel27 It was a title-only edit. The buttons only appear if the body has been changed. It kept converting the -- to an em-dash, so I added a zero-width spacer after them.
There's no visible change to see.

Ohhh.
I would say the epic-ness of that edit is...severely up for debate.

Lies!

4:21 PM
"On behalf of the Social Committee, we would like to invite you to an impromptu Friday Fun Day this week! Starting at noon and going until food runs out we are will be tailgating and grilling out hamburgers and hot dogs."
Our company has a Social Committee? o.o And they don't know how to type?

All is forgiven when free burgers and dogs are provided. Say, if you're not interested, I'd be happy to take your share....

@animuson nested quotes -_-

Lies!
Looks like this Vlad fellow is going to start trolling since both of his questions on Meta got status-declined.
Hahaha nice decline reason @ThiefMaster ;P

4:42 PM
@animuson Start? Look at the IP and other accounts.

@animuson Vlad seems like a diplomatic fellow.

5:01 PM
@Oded Why not just merge his accounts? If he's clearly using a new account to get around a question block, why are we even putting up with him?

@Oded common you first comment on the question "Oh. Hai Vlad. Bored today?", does not add anything, is totally off-topic. For a moderator that does not sounds good

@animuson Not sure - Brad Larson is aware of him and already removed a few socks before. May be keeping these around for investigation?
@DiegoCNascimento Just letting the troll know we are on to him. And I am not an elected mod - I am a Stack Exchange employee and developer.

Breaking news: SE developers aren't PR experts.

@Oded I think that make things worse :)

5:17 PM
@DiegoCNascimento - Possibly. Fact is - this is a sock puppet. The OP has a suspended account already, so the fact that we still let him use the sock is more than being tolerant.

@mootinator I think the relevant audience prefers reading comments like the one Oded posted than the typical PR-ish bs most companies give you.

@Oded well I don't disagree with that, nor the constructive comments left to the user, but your one is not professional, but ok, I'm just talking about that.

Fair enough.

Kev
@DiegoCNascimento lol...that's tame compared to Will/Won't

@Kev for non native English, that is difficult to parse :)

Kev
5:24 PM
@DiegoCNascimento as a fairly risk averse ex-SO mod, @Oded's comment isn't particularly harmful. I'd have done the same. Users like vlad either shape up by being called out for bad citizen behaviour or just go the fuck away. Either outcome is good.
@DiegoCNascimento got me every day too

@Kev - good to see you around :)

@DiegoCNascimento We used to have a moderator named Will. On Meta he changed his display name to Won't, as a joke.

@Pops lol, ok makes more sense now

Kev
@Oded thanks chap, took a bit of a break from it all to recharge my batteries. Nice to be back just answering questions again :)

@Kev yes I see It goes for the **** way. I don't have anything as it has using a MAC lol. But I think @Oded comment seems like a impulse for new users to do this type of comment.

5:27 PM
@Kev - answering questions? Vague recollection of doing that some time in the past

Hey, it's @Kev! :D :D

@DiegoCNascimento I've removed it now. But you should have seen his past posts now deleted. Perhaps I stooped to his level, a bit.

@Oded it commented on my posts with off-topic messages, I know :)
then it stoped, should be their keyboard lights that went off?

Kev
5:49 PM
@Manishearth yay! me! :D How are things? I see you have two mod diamonds now, taking a leaf out of ChrisF's book?

@Kev Heh. I had two diamonds when you left, too :p
It's going great
I doubt I'll take up another diamond or anything, got studying to do as well
how's your work going?

Kev
@Manishearth I still have ♦ muscle memory I can't seem to shake. Work is busy but dull as dishwater, I'm transcribing old company FAQ to new company FAQ wiki, flushing out old and outdated crap etc. Sometimes nice to do no-brainer work for a week or two but I'm itching to get on with more interesting projects.

@Kev ditch FAQ! Help center! :p

Kev
@Manishearth tbh I'm not sure how many customers bother with it and just log a trouble ticket, which I then want to close off SO style then suspend them :)

lol

6:02 PM
Question is, if this was possible, would your company still have any customers left?

Stack Overflow: Ban all the people, because that's how you can get any signal to noise ratio you want!

Did I just read that Oded is not answering questions now? goes to answer some ASP.NET questions

@Kev Stack Overflow: impairing your ability to do your job well since... waitaminute.

@Pops Joel has a big self destruct button for SE Inc. It picks an SO moderator and hires them as HR.

How do you know about tha... ahhh, almost got me there.

Kev
6:12 PM
@Oded to be honest ~85% are pretty cool, it's the low $ spending time wasters I'd love to mod-ban at times, we don't mind losing them
@Pops damn you SO give me my five years back!

@Kev You're allowed to do that.

6:29 PM
@jadarnel27 Being an employee seems to hamper that activity. Unless your name is Marc

Ah, that makes sense.
Odd, though. Presumably you were an employee somewhere before, @Oded.

@jadarnel27 Ah. Needed to be specific. "Being a Stack Exchange employee".

"being a SEx employee"
btw, the last entry in your job list in your careers profile lists [window-95] - didn't you mean [windows-95]?

@Oded I guess they keep you busier at SE than your last job did?

He's clearly talking about the 95th window on the building where he worked...
That 95th window can really be a pest...

6:42 PM
@jadarnel27 I was freelancing and many corporate environments don't keep people that busy in my experience.
@ThiefMaster lol. Fixed. Thanks.
Google image search for 95th window brings back some... interesting results.

@Oded Ah, freelancing! I'm trying to get into that. And I agree about corporate environments. I am in one now, and they do not keep me super busy =)
Not nearly as busy as when I worked for smaller companies, anyway.

So. Yeah. I've been paid good money to sit down and twiddle my thumbs in the past. Hated it and wanted to do something useful that was also something that I could legitimately claim was work relate ;)

Kev
Night all, apparently there's a nice bottle of .za cab sauv waiting for me in the village grocers, yum.

6:58 PM
/me will have to settle for some Scotch Whiskey

@Oded More interesting: One of the few google image search results where not a single porn picture is in the result list ;)

I have kids. SafeSearch == on.

They don't have a separate profile? :o

Sure they do. But the computer is in the living room, so when I do an image search, I don't need them looking over my shoulder asking "what is that man doing to that woman?"

"he's.... really in love with her"

7:06 PM
He's very much into her.
3

At least partially.

And rather vigorously.

8:00 PM
> Amalaha says his experiments show that the north and south poles of magnets are attracted to each other — but same poles repel each other. Astoundingly, this "means that man cannot attract another man because they are the same, and a woman should not attract a woman because they are the same. That is how I used physics to prove gay marriage wrong."
People... they're like magnets, man...

@animuson Wow...

8:13 PM
Someone should throw that guy against a refrigerator over and over to help him understand the flaw(s) in his analysis.

@jadarnel27 "I'm going to keep trying until you stick. It just has to work. You said you proved it!"

Not to focus on the wrong part of that story, but... that's graduate-level work?

8:29 PM
Doesn't it just mean that you need to turn one of the men 180 degrees and all will work just fine?

@Bart lol that was good =P

8:59 PM
For some reason I have the Looney Tunes song stuck in my head...

9:33 PM
@animuson ... ... >:( Now it's stuck in my head too :P
