two 'm' is unacceptable, a good 'h+m' must contain at last 3 'm's
unless of course, it is just a not very important or special 'hmm'

@TimStone: The Earth is rumbling... I... I... passed you in Meta rep... O.O

We better get those Data Explorer updates out then, so all those shiny s can bump my answers :o
I have been a bit Meta-lazy recently, although there hasn't been too many exciting bugs or feature requests.

Meta has been a bit slow lately, it seems.

Hey guys
I really need some help please.
You see I have been logging on to Math.SE using my facebook account always
Now one day I accidentally clicked on the google logo when logging in and then that created a new account using the google email
The name of this account created using the google email is david-benjamin lim
the next day I woke up to find that my old benjalim account had its username changed to david-benjamin lim
apparently these two accounts were merged
now my old user ID was something like 5783
and it's now gone
Can this be recovered/i.e. this process undone?

7:08 AM
Eh, your reps, post history etc. are all fine after the merge, right?

@Bart yea... It is getting very very annoying... did they change something?

@amanaP They corrected it. Let me find the Meta discussion

A: I am not a robot!

balpha Some days ago, the spam protection was turned up a notch. Well, actually, it was repaired. Two weeks ago, we found a bug that for a long time prevented edits from being throttled at all (except for very narrow exceptions). For the record, I posted this in our internal chat room: Thanks f...

@Bart when did they correct it? Ive hit the captcha abt 3 times already today in the past hr...
@Bart seriously? hebrew recaptchas?

A: The reCAPTCHA has become too difficult for humans to solve

Aaron BertrandSaw these today at http://meta.stackoverflow.com/captcha/. If you can solve even one of these, maybe there is no issue? Note that for some of these it would be difficult if not impossible to solve even one of the two words - and how many new users (you know, the ones that are more likely to trigg...

LOL

Yeah, saw that one as well. Though that's not something SO/SE can do a lot about if I'm not mistaken. 3rd party solution

@Bart well reCaptcha is google. so it is their fault :-P

Hey, I cast 687 votes total on EL&U SE, 614 on questions and 713 on answers. I haven't gotten electorate badge yet and its's already been 16 minutes. Can someone please tell me why I didn't fit the criteria? — J. Walker 2 days ago
I tried to reply to that but I don't think I understood what the OP meant; anyone?

Hmm, not even sure how he got to that total. Not even where a typo might explain it...
Though he does seem to have the badge now @pop english.stackexchange.com/users/19159/j-walker?tab=badges
Ah, 73 on answers instead of 713
So I guess this is just a "please be patient" case. 16 minutes is not a whole lot after all.

Anybody in here knows the status of the f*&ked up captchas?
ah I should read before asking questions :)
hmmmm so still not handled??

@PeeHaa nope....

@PeeHaa I like captchas, they are fun and challenging. The only times where I hate them is when I am doing an edit on the minute 4, and because filling the captcha I don't finish within the grace period creating a new edit entry.

hmmmm. Well what about @balpha reversing his so called "fix"?
@ajax333221 Trying to take a piss with you eyes closed while driving with your car with the window open inside your house is also a challenge. Doesn't make it a good idea though

with the window open :P

4:20 PM
Wow that sentence sucks ;) You get what I mean. The current captcha system sucks :D

does someone know what it means when you have nightmares about your teeth falling off?

@ajax333221 "To dream that you have rotten or decaying teeth implies that you may have said something that you shouldn't have. You may have uttered some false or foul words and those words are coming back to haunt you."
or "To dream that you your teeth has fallen out and you try to refit them back into the mouth signifies a lack of self-confidence and embarrassment. You are afraid that others will know of your short-comings. If you acted calmly in your dream, then it may point to how can make the best out of any situation. You are able to rise above unfavorable circumstances."

@ajax333221 So: are you an asshole or do you lack confidence?

I don't have confidence in RL, I don't talk to people unless is strictly necessary and I have no friends

well think of it this way
there are plenty of people you could talk to from Stack Overflow

well, via internet is very different, idk why

i meant if you met SO peeps in real life, you wouldn't have much of a hard time talking

that's impossible, most of them talk in english and I am ashamed of my english accent

@ajax333221 Have you tried drinking??? ;-) (I suck at good advices, sue me :-) )

4:35 PM
you're ashamed of an accent when @PeeHaa just used the nonexistent plural form of "advice?"

@Purmou :D
@Purmou In my mind it sounded soooo correct ;)

@PeeHaa This book says that's okay (assuming you learned from it):
I am not Jeff Potter, nor am I affiliated with that book in any way. To be honest, I didn't get that much out of it, but I think other people might.

@PopularDemand Might at least be worth a download to find out whether it is nideed useful. Tnx!

i've been stuck at 4,995 rep for three days

@PopularDemand Ah, I own that book.

@ajax333221 Looks like your cat is getting dangerously close to some Javascript there...

@Purmou or writing some Shakespeare

@Purmou Downvoted, Closed as dupe, flagged for moderator attention

@Bart I hope social interaction doesn't come to that point.

@PopularDemand still remember Kony 2012?

@jcolebrand HA. good one

5:17 PM
@Purmou What is this concept you speak of? "Social interaction"?

@Bart it's really an interesting phenomenon--a new trend, if you will. people have actually begun communicating outside of technology again!

Pff, hipsters

@PopularDemand lol, why did he quote himself? :P

I’m reasonably sure that Akin still doesn’t understand why what he said is wrong.

@jcolebrand As a non-social-media-user, I only caught the tiniest edge of that even when it was active.
@Purmou Because even then, mentioning the similar avatars was a dupe.

5:23 PM
@PopularDemand the sad part is that the goal was noble, and should still be an active conversation.
the reality is that it's a crappy conversation, in part because we're supposed to be non-interventionist

@jcolebrand come on, he's been inactive
and if anything noble were to come of it, it would not have been through Invisible Children

@Purmou who has been inactive? Kony?

yes sir

Is this happening? Politics chat in the Tavern?

Yeah, ok. I dare you to go on a six week scouting trip by yourself through mid-Africa
@PopularDemand whereelse would you expect to find political chatter?
The City Tavern is a replica of an historic 18th century building located at 138 South 2nd Street, at the intersection of Second and Walnut Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Called the "most genteel tavern in America" by John Adams, it was the favorite meeting place of many of the Founding Fathers and of many members of the First Continental Congress. The City Tavern was built by subscription in 1773. It was partially destroyed by fire on March 22, 1834 and the structure was demolished in 1854. The entire building was reconstructed in the 1970s and re-opened in 1976 for the Bicentenni...

5:26 PM
@PopularDemand Just give me a heads-up when I should mention anything related to Hitler

you went on a six-week trip through Africa? how did that turn out for you?

@Purmou No, and I'm smart enough NOT to. I happen to have a cush job and I don't need any strange infections.

then what was that a valid response to? :P

@Purmou If you were to go on a six-week trip, solo, through mid-Africa, you would find that the gangs that the Kony2012 initiative was trying to stop are not "inactive". Doubly so if you're a blond white female, as you would stick out like a sore thumb to everyone. Suffice to say, there's no reason to go looking for hatred, we have enough of that on Capitol Hill already

um...Kony 2012 was trying to bring infamy to Joseph Kony himself...and bring further attention to his actions, which Invisible Children hoped would get governments more involved in his arrest.

5:32 PM
And all the other groups like Kony's army.
Apparently you didn't get the message
Which means most people didn't get the message

what's the message i didn't get?

He's not the only gang-running warlord in mid-Africa. There are literally hundreds of them

i'm well aware of this

They are usually stocked with AK-47s because those things are incredibly easy to make, and were salvaged/sold from USSR stockpiles in the 70's, but they hold up really well.

but the Kony 2012 campaign was doing nothing towards "other gangs"

5:33 PM
Because they are such a blight on humanity, it's up to the states with police power to eradicate these thugs
@Purmou no, it was to raise awareness at all that such a thing exists and is ongoing.

people already knew

@Purmou I assure you they do not, even now, really know.
Some may know

that's usually enough

but all people do not know

i think that becomes an issue of whether "one person can make a difference"
i don't think everybody needs to know about the tragedies going on in the world
some audiences simply can't handle it...
but the video itself failed--the footage was outdated
and i don't think more people know much about African warlords than did before the video was released

5:37 PM
@Purmou and hence we can mark the campaign itself as a failure
but not the aim of the campaign, which was noble and is still valid, if unmet.

but the aim of the campaign is not a new one
it has existed and been addressed for centuries...human rights violations are nothing new at all
and i think that campaign was aimed in a single direction
you may interpret it differently, but if their aim was to bring attention to the multiple scenarios similar to that of LRA, than they didn't really accomplish that
they put the name "KONY" on everything, and the video was an explicit f-you to Kony

Sure
Pick one face and make it the face of evil
just like "pick one face and make it the face you need to save"

while it could have worked

If you had been told this was the face of the victim's of the Nazi's, you would've been outraged;

the audience was mostly blindly supportive teens who shared the video to seem active in world politics

5:42 PM
@Purmou indoctrination is wonderful

that girl seem more worried than sad

really? she looks rather emotionless to me

@ajax333221 I said "Nazi" didn't I? I would be worried to. Kristallnacht and all that mess
Anyways, who doesn't like propaganda?

@jcolebrand it all comes down to this though: the human rights violations going on in Africa are tragedies, and any cause towards eradicating that can be noble, but the Kony 2012 campaign was an unsuccessful attempt at doing such, and I'm glad it's that way. The organization is a deceptive piece of crap.

@Purmou I'll go with that

5:49 PM
and now i will go eat

Because for a time it was a pretty decent aggregator or decent content, which got it users initially

Q: hardware shortcut to take a screenshot

JorgesmashHow can I take a photo of the current screen content, no matters what content could it be? Is there a hardware buttons shortcut to make that? Something like iPhone: Power + Home Thanks in advance. I just found a method for old Android devices here.

@PopularDemand I'm with you. That's a "how do I use my Android phone" question.

@AnnaLear Nerd rage minor disgruntlement: assuaged!

Funny. Got a quasi-programmatic answer, which was down-voted. Got a total SuperUser answer, and it got up-voted. But no one migrated it.
Of course, I blame Mark Trapp for this.

Quasi-programmatic?

Surely there is a female version of "Cole" that we can use.
Cola?
Colene?
Colette?

I feel like this became very awkward very slowly
Also, you're overlooking the obvious everyone loves: "Nicole"
But say it like it's a body-part-inspired soda, and leave off the "a" sound
Knee-col

Knee-col-aaaaa ....wait.

Natalie King Cole
We also overlooked the more obvious.
The "J" stands for "Julie".

@mootinator juliette colette brand?
Juliet Natalie King Colette Brandy?

@jcolebrand Perfect.

Just for short tho, we should call me: "Her illustrious magnificence, the ruler of the Stack Exchange empire and royal court jester, all at the same time, Madme of privilege, by the grace of God and all things holy, Juliet Natalie King Colette Brandy, the one and only"
