@rene Thanks! Sorry for the confusion, but my search is working fine. I believe it's the wrong combination of keywords I used :)

@AnnZen okay, did you find a post that answers your question? Some of those questions relate to specific flags, those might not apply to your case.

No, I don't think that question should have been closed
As a matter of fact, I'm considering re-opening it.
I voted to close as site specific, as this really is about a sites culture
Anyone has a clue about this Q: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/357534/…
My answer was wrong, although I swear at first the two links looked to be different
@Luuklag That ... is understandable but the topic itself is not unique to one site. It can apply to other sites in the network as well.
Yeah, but also I feel this is more about the site specific culture, as Maths has quite a high bar about what they find acceptable, which in turn invokes these sort of comments
although I very much agree with the answers by Tink en Journey
\o/
I don't know much about Maths but I know an overreaction when I see one ;)
08:03
or OP figured a more sympathetic audience here than math meta...
XD Might very well be, as they got the same answer as mine in the comments on Math...
I'm confused why my bengaluru post has so many upvotes ._.
the comment thread is gold though :D
Yep, that was a fun comment thread :)

Q: Why exactly is *German* a requirement for a role that is India based?

Journeyman GeekAmusingly, I'm not actually sure if this goes on meta, but this is probably the place it's most likely to be seen. I was looking through the "work here" page and looking at one of the roles - Enterprise Account Executive, Teams (Bengaluru). While it's not a role I'm personally interested in, I fi...

Because meta crowd love when SE makes silly mistakes like that... ;)

@Shadow10YearsWizard yes. Its also something I feel super wierd about posting about, but its not like I can raise a bug report
i'm thrilled that you enjoyed yourself, @Tinkeringbell, that's totally what my goal was
Ah, confirming the first impression marvelously I see... by misinterpreting yet another statement!
That was a reaction to Geek's statement that the comment thread on his Bengaluru post was gold.
Trust me, I do not enjoy wasting my time on comment threads like the one you're thinking of.
ah sorry
Oh come on, you're a mod, I thought mods were all-in on drama?

@Shadow10YearsWizard Its very much something handled by part of the company that isn't public facing
@rene kicking @rene
You can kick me but not my humour. That is universal.
08:54
@rene I can take hostage though
taking Kenny as hostage
@Shadow10YearsWizard anything to do with the public facing part of the network is fair game
but ehhh
Well if hidden parts cause problems, it doesn't mean you don't need to take care of those parts...
sure
I just still feel like I'm sticking my nose where it dosen't belong :D
Even if healthy commercial offerings mean, hopefully a healthy public site
@JourneymanGeek well if it will result in something being fixed and/or improved, it's for the best. :D
@rene can you make a SEDE query for SO that finds "Does this answer your question?" comments on closed questions, with score of more than 2?
Want to verify my best guess for this one...
(that if comment has score of more than X, it won't get auto deleted.)
Wasn't there some sort of bug where flagging adds such a comment, but makes it avoid auto-deletion?
09:06
@Shadow10YearsWizard fixed the S&F link on that post
@Tinkeringbell there is opposite bug, that if such auto comment is manually deleted (question isn't closed), and someone cast new close as dupe flag/vote, no comment is made.
Hmm. My best bet still is that one of the comments was perhaps flagged and cleaned up manually XD
Anyway the OP cast many such flags, and most comments do get auto deleted.
@Luuklag thanks, could do it myself, just wanted to understand the logic behind this. :)
probably some previous revision, I got till HAM
@Luuklag the OP (rand) did it, it's there from first revision.
@ran isn't pingable, only @ren
@Luuklag is the ham tasty?
sdc ham Luuk

@Shadow10YearsWizard No such command 'ham'.
@Shadow10YearsWizard data.stackexchange.com/meta.stackexchange/query/1341939 there are 2 scores, comment and post. which one do you want?
@Shadow10YearsWizard meta.stackexchange.com/a/339888/369802 It never was marked status-completed...
09:26
@rene forgot critical part... comment must not be edited. But yeah, looks like even some with score of 1 stay.
Must not be edited is a no go. That is not in SEDE
@Tinkeringbell oh... good find! I'll add this to the new bug report.
@rene :(
At best you could check if there is text after the last )
@Shadow10YearsWizard Just a sec!
@Tinkeringbell why?
The bug report is inside long forgotten answer. It's worthless.
09:30
@Shadow10YearsWizard okay, fixed: data.stackexchange.com/meta.stackexchange/query/1341939 sort of
So it may be the same bug but it may also be not...
They're cuter than some of the other MLP pattern I have...
(and this time it is actually crochet!)
@Tinkeringbell Well, it's a bug, so added the bug tag... and if not same then dev can take a look and see.
@rene thanks!
09:35
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе "Includes everything you need to make these 3" is often disappointing though: That means for the other patterns, you won't have those little applique's they wear on their butts.
Need some advice.... I want to buy a new phone, how is Realme 6 Pro? Anyone know it? It's pretty cheap and has good reviews, but can't be sure.
@Shadow10YearsWizard its another subbrand of BKK
they make oneplus, oppo, vivo....
@JourneymanGeek only heard of Oneplus
And? Is this good or bad they're part of BKK?
@Tinkeringbell the cutie mark is also crocheted, not a sticker if that's what you meant - so that wouldn't be a problem. That said, the comments seems to agree on the fact that you don't even get enough purple yarn to finish Twilight in the first place.
So, seems something you would buy just for the patterns and then you have to buy the materials yourself.
Also, weirdly some claim they include color codes for the other patterns but not for Twilight. One comment claims that after realizing there is not enough purple they had to "guess the color"
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе Ah, I see now... it's embroidered, not crocheted. Well that's at least something, but you still need to buy a bunch of embroidery floss XD
I have both sets of 'star wars crochet'. They're fun, but the yarn is generally of a horribly cheap quality (acrylic, super fuzzy, splits when just looking at it), the included hook is often a cheap plastic that breaks by just looking at it... The only real reason to buy such a set is because they don't sell the pattern booklets separately ;)
09:43
@Shadow10YearsWizard oppo is solid too
so its a company with a track record
Your purple yarn reviewer probably doesn't crochet tight enough ;)
heh, just read about Google case reminding a lot about our Monica-gate...

They fired someone who dared to go against them, and now thousands of Google employees demand Google to cancel this.
oh
quite different
She even got wiki of her own!
Timnit Gebru is an Eritrean-American computer scientist who works on algorithmic bias and data mining. She is an advocate for diversity in technology and a co-founder of Black in AI, a community of black researchers working in artificial intelligence. Her employment with Google as technical co-lead of the Ethical Artificial Intelligence Team was abruptly ended in December 2020 after she was allegedly forced to retract an academic paper. == Early life and education == Gebru was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Her father and two oldest sisters are electrical engineers. Her father died...
@JourneymanGeek reminding a lot
;)
Mainly people who don't know her coming for her aid.
Against "common enemy".
I'd say almost closer to shog, but Shog didn't actually do anything to piss off his employer as far as we know
09:55
@JourneymanGeek pretty sure he did, even if not directly.
> In December 2020, Gebru announced that she had been fired by Google after an alleged dispute over a research paper. Google workers started the #ISupportTimnit campaign to stand in solidarity with Gebru. Jeff Dean, Google’s head of AI research, maintains that she resigned voluntarily, though this was disputed by current and former Google employees
Also, nobody with "reinstate Shog" as a name. ;)
Well, that's the most complicated line that says exactly nothing I have ever seen XD
Facts please!
(that's probably the most relation it has to anything on SE too: A he-said she-said with a bunch of people following the she-said like good sheeple)
@Tinkeringbell - She wrote a paper that apparently her employer was unhappy with.
@Tinkeringbell well, if someone says to the company "Do this or I quit", the company doesn't do it, and they quit.... it's hardly "resigned voluntarily". :)
09:57
@JourneymanGeek allegedly, yes :)
@Tinkeringbell the writing of said paper and the disagreement is pretty much agreed on :D
@Shadow10YearsWizard It is voluntarily though... You made a choice to leave and use it to threaten first... which is your right, but ...
Google asked her to redact or retract parts of it... its THEN it gets murky
@JourneymanGeek Well, if that's clear the wikipedia article needs editing.
@Tinkeringbell if seen black and white then yeah, you're right. :D
09:58
Because right now all it says is that there was an alleged dispute.
Not that there clearly was one.
But it's not, so you're not right, at least not 100%.
@Tinkeringbell if there wasn't a dispute she wouldn't have been fired or quit
It's in the gray zone.
@Shadow10YearsWizard ;) Nothing ever is black and white in these cases, which makes it so easy to accept one side as right and the other as wrong depending on your personal beliefs about right and wrong ;)
@JourneymanGeek good, so I'll buy it. Thanks a lot! :-D
@Tinkeringbell exactly
10:00
@JourneymanGeek You can quit if you think there's a dispute, even though there is none... You should know that, you have seen it while moderating here ;)
I believe Google will fold and offer her to join back. And find a way to be seen as "the good guys" while doing so.
@Tinkeringbell you can quit to apply pressure in a dispute
@Shadow10YearsWizard probably playing the diversity card there
@Shadow10YearsWizard Meh. I think that's too optimistic. There's too much risk in someone using this when they don't get the promotion they like, for example.
I don't think they'll burn their fingers on that one again.
@Tinkeringbell I don't think this is about money though
10:02
@Luuklag they don't need to, I think. They're very diverse already, that's not the case.
Its about principles, and that's a much more dangerous thing
The issue she raised was how Google isn't doing enough for environment and protecting AI from making mistakes.
Principles are okay to have, but you can't blame others if you decide to stick to yours.
@JourneymanGeek Still, that requires you to think there is a dispute you need to apply such pressure to.
I only have wikipedia to go by, and it says that all of that is 'alleged', nothing definitive yet :)
Who or what is "Dary"? — P.Mort. - forgot Clay Shirky_q 58 mins ago

I know by chance, watched some episodes of the show, but those who didn't... have no way to know.
@Tinkeringbell probably because it's still ongoing....
When dust will settle, editors can put more definite words.
Sure. And only at that point would it be fruitful to even attempt to form an opinion or draw parallels... not while it's still ongoing. That last course of action will only make things more confused, prejudiced and polarized ;)
10:11
!!/polarize Tink
@Shadow10YearsWizard No such command 'polarize'.
I would not attempt that either :P
10:39
@Tinkeringbell Bingo.
;) I might some day start buying patterns again, but right now I've got so much ideas and patterns lying around, I'll probably be over 80 when I finished them all ;)

@b_jonas good idea to post on meta pointing it out
@JourneymanGeek I will, but I want to ask if this is known already.
the migration to commonmark has been a while so probably as a new question
Maybe there's already a post.
@b_jonas If there is, meta.stackexchange.com/q/348746/369802 might be a good place to start checking if it's there.

A: Why don't images show up in a post?

GlorfindelThis may be a bug caused by the recent migration to CommonMark, and indeed it seems to be related to the large amount of HTML (I've encountered similar issues while trying to fix broken images across the network). I've fixed it by adding an extra newline between ...

Seems like I managed to miss some layers of the disappointment sandwich
@mag Nooo, how could you forgot about all of us! :P
@mag I don't know, I think the only thing you might've missed was the thing that mods need to be 18 now, and I don't know how disappointed you'd be over that. Opinions are kinda divided, from 'makes sense and I'm glad my PII is kept this safe' to 'legal BS that shows how much SE has changed'. Both are probably true :)
@mag who's to blame?

@Tinkeringbell @JourneymanGeek thanks for the help.
@Shadow10YearsWizard Divided doesn't mean equally divided :P I've seen comments and posts that point out the legal perspective makes sense, so there's a divide ;)
@b_jonas Nice circles!
@Tinkeringbell true. But those with unpopular opinion are probably afraid to post it.... :-O
11:19
@Shadow10YearsWizard Might be. Anyone that thinks this change makes sense seeing that post and how so many people are disappointed may very likely shut their mouth.
Anyway, for me, both are true. It's a step away from 'old' SE (that I never really knew except from rumors and old Meta posts) which may be disappointing and it's a change that makes sense from a legal perspective to me.
It's also fun to observe that often, once the more moderate expressions of disappointment/disagreement are posted here and have gotten plenty of upvotes... people try to jump on the bandwagon with their less nuanced, less polite posts XD
"Let's just make this a bit worse, people definitely disagree so I can probably get some rep too by exaggerating just a tiny bit more!"
@Tinkeringbell or in my case, put this under much more review. Which isn't completed yet. Initially I was going to say "It's a good change, SE was right", but reading the answers posted by people I know and trust saying the opposite.... raise lots of internal doubts.
@Shadow10YearsWizard Two things can be 'right' at the same time ;) In this case, the one doesn't exclude the other. The change is good, and from a legal perspective, probably right. The change is also something a legal department that no one really likes here came up with :P
..... and it started snowing....
@Tinkeringbell well, if it was a requirement from the beginning, there wouldn't be any problem. But it wasn't...

@Hugo might seem harsh but - I'd advice never saying anything you'd regret on meta. In some cases its worth saying stuff folks may disagree with, but that needs one to read the room.
13:24
@JourneymanGeek development seems based on unpackaged files that you store in various places on the server. There is no apparent way to manage those files externally - they live in the server. As such, I think there is no concept of source control and/or history/versioning.
SharePoint at least has solutions that you can deploy.
Code editor is in-browser jsfiddle like, poor intellisense and error detection.
Seems there is something they call "updateset", but not even close to a branch - whatever change a dev makes, it is visible real time on the whole instance.
Seems very primitive, but that is what some people told me. Wanted to confirm is that is really the case or it is just not fully using every feature that is available.
Developing under those condition as a team seems quite... annoying from what I understood.

@rene, looking at that user's oldest post I see that you misdetected. Checking a different post, where your detection is correct, I see that a simple copy/paste into the answer box below doesn't generate a new table. --- While detecting old hacks is good you'll need to exclude 'old hacks that are new legal' (and thus don't need updating) along with excluding misdetections.
--- It look like the minimum legal is "|" as first and last character on the first line, and "| -" plus " |" ending on the second line - the remaining either works or terminates the table.
it is not 100% watertight
Rob
Rob
^ True.
Maybe I need to add that disclaimer?
That allows @Glorfindel to top my answer that does implement a full parser ;)
Rob
Rob
SE's table parsing is very loose too; illegal might be accepted and various fluff will just make a mess. --- If only they could have implemented MathJax tables (only, not the rest of MathJax), then there'd be no code to write or errors to deal with - it would just work, and render pretty.
Currently what some people do is go to a site that accepts MathJax, make their table in MathJax, screenshot it, copy the MathJax, then return to the non-MathJax site and upload the screenshot, adding the MathJax that was copied as an HTML comment - which allows it to be easily substituted for the image if the site later enables MathJax - whew.

@rene sorry, looks like we don't understand each other in the zombie chat profile bug.
I think it's a bug, and a duplicate.
But, as a side note, agree it might be by design.
I think we now find out we've never understood each other ....
Well, lots of ice cream! :D
TL;DR: don't think it should be reopened, unless I'm missing something here...
The user in the new case has about 1100 messages, the user in the older report has over 10k messages.
@Shadow10YearsWizard ok, fair enough. I was more trying to see if we would fancy 100 similar reports. My gut said no but couldn't find an argument, except my own distaste for it
If a developer will one day delete the chat profile(s) it's awesome, but won't fix the bug.
@rene oh. Well, all those 100 will be closed as duplicates, same as "Please force users to leave a comment when downvoting".

Anyone care to help me out with a quick question? Don't think it's worth writing a question on meta, just want some clarity
Don't ask to ask ;) Just ask :P
Already typing :)
CollinB is still typing....
... takes a while, must not be such a quick question after all ...
Regarding the recent rules on mods being required to be 18 or older - I'm a little confused. The post I immediately saw specifically referenced diamond moderators as the ones that must now be age verified. However, the policy linked referred, rather specifically to diamond, just to moderators in general. Is this the case, or does the new policy only affect diamond moderators?
Quick, I'm just a poor typer
17:32
Only diamonds ;)
Technically, the ones without diamonds are just users doing some moderation tasks :P
Figured that was the case, thanks for the clarification.
no problem :)
The confusion between diamonds and users with moderation privileges isn't uncommon.
And who's fault is that? :P
I blame Meta ;)
17:39
That's a good thing to blame. :) Can't really defend itself :P
@Tinkeringbell Who speaks on it's behalf?
Looks like someone's been serial voting...
@Ollie Let's hope no-one does ;)
Because that would give it a way to defend itself
*rubs hands together*
Wondering whether it might be worth it to suggest a slight wording rework on the linked policy - if it's not just me reading it poorly, others may be confused that it doesn't specifically reference diamond moderators, so some clarification could help.
i mean
17:45
On the other hand, I suppose the vast majority of non-diamond "moderators" will likely just wait and see what happens
the entire thing is based around the moderator agreement
which you aren't presented to sign as a non-moderator
so... I don't get the confusion
....managed to miss that part, I guess? (back to that part where I could just be a horrible reader)
> As of 2 December 2020 we established a policy requiring all moderators to be at least 18 years of age. Because the Moderator Agreement is considered a legal contract and minors can not legally be held by the agreement, we need to set this policy in place.
@rene you mean @Meta no? ;)
Yep, just me then
17:50
there being 2 posts about it might be causing that problem

Looks like someone's been serial voting...
In general, I prefer it if people bring their own serial voting towards us with flags, but not raise flags on other people's behalf... so I deleted my previous comment suggesting to wait and flag, as that's only relevant for Ollie.
I just hate tables. That's all
The four-legged kind? Or the markdown kind?
18:23
You missed the times kind
And the database kind :)
19:12
@CollinB "moderators" almost always refers to diamond mods. The confusion arises mostly from the "access moderator tools" privilege at 10k, which dates back to when those users could see flags. Since they can no longer see flags, and it's confusing, we should probably just abandon the moderator wording there and reserve the term for diamonds.

although I do happen to fix some display bugs on the site by tweaking the HTML/CSS
but thats more common sense and trial and error then anything else
anyone can be a web developer these days with the dev tools on your browser

SQL isn't so bad, as long as you don't try to use it directly

I generally prefer to generate good datasources for Excel tables, either in form of CSV, or live connectable Database Links (e.g. a Stored Procedure).
@πάνταῥεῖ (Cthulhu, no apostrophe. The apostrophe is in "R'lyeh")
@Mithical Ah, ty. My Lovecraft is a bit rusty.

ducks anxiously
@πάνταῥεῖ I currently have an excel with about 25 tabs, of which most are data sources
and then a exrementload of VBA to make things calculate
One thing I do love about posting bugs and feature requests as answers: you get notified of changes to status tags, as they're considered substantive body edits rather than tag-only edits
@Luuklag You should talk to your backend guys. In my experience building business logic into DB management functionalty is bad, but SPs for reporting and calculation are great. Easlily customizable, fast (in best case with cached results), and snapshot access to all the DB's live data. Also most SQL driven servers allow to define cubes for drilling into various dimensions. All that stuff is definitely not a job for VBA.
@πάνταῥεῖ I am that guy xD
And this is supposed to be an alpha test version
real dev will be outsourced
Well, Mhhhm'key

I just happen to know a bit of programming, and have the domain specific/scientific knowledge to make something functional
Yeah, sure. Domain specific knowledge is crucial for that job.
SQL Views, and SP's aren't rocket science, and way easier to understand than VBA IMO.
Its supposed to calculate the impact of applications of pesticides in a location specific way
VBA just takes some getting used to, but other then that its fairly easy IMO. It's abit like you would write normal text
And I find it quite easy to debug
(most of the time)
So a set of formulas bound to a location more or less?
Yeah, but that location comprising of about 25 parameters
and having about 20 endpoints
per application of pesticide
20:52
with a scheme that could include as much as 100 pesticides
and then ofcourse the interaction between them, and in time
luckily we could base a lot off of an existing model
Sounds like a halfway simulation engine.
At least suitable for data training.
Yeah more or less. I need to calculate time ranges etc.
