@RebeccaChernoff grrrr, that's not an Oy worthy response is it? Is it just my partial (self-diagnosed) Aspergers kicking in making me wonder about my weird social interactions?
@RebeccaChernoff Yes, that's precisely what I'm talking about. Being the person that originally reported the issue, I've been trying to keep track of it. :)
okay guys, don't want to bother you anymore, I thought I'd be dumb anyhow, but you showed me I am generally doing the right things, it's nothing I can ask of any of you. many thanks to @drachenstern
@RebeccaChernoff I reported the issue to Marc a while ago. He looked into it then, but wasn't convinced. I sent over my chat.se cookies for him to look at.
I was leaning towards APC, myself. I guess I need to figure out the wattage necessary.
My "server" has a big beast of a PSU. Not as big as my current desktop, but it used to be my desktop. (i.e. video card sucking down the juice at a healthy pace)
How can I set one value to several elements of the array in C#.
Example:
int[] array=new int[]{2,3,5,3,7,2,9}, and I want to set the values between 2-nd and 5-th to 8.
How it could be done?
I'm shooting for a clean shutdown. Working through the outage would be quite nice. But, the rare outage is either for maintenance or due to high winds, so they're not necessarily short.
@drachenstern Hm, I feel like that may be the case too. I know that my CyberPower UPS came with software for that purpose regardless, but it's a bit above what George's price range was unfortunately.
But yah, that's basically what I'm looking to do. Have the server shutdown cleanly if there is a power outage. No sense trust my files to it, if a power outage hoses something.
@GeorgeMarian obviously what is needed is to run a windows env in a VM that talks to the UPS, and a linked set of commands over a virtual network pipe from the VM Windows to the Linux host that sends a heartbeat and a command to initiate shutdown on loss of power detected on the Windows machine. That's not too goldbergian
nah take NJTransit to hamilton then drive the rest of the way (i actually live in the near suburbs so it's quicker to drive to hamilton then ... trust ... septa)
2 hour commute would drive me nuts. I used to take the metro which was 45m to an hour each direction. Then I realized it was so much easier just to spend the money and drive...which takes 15-20m each direction. Heh.
haha .. yea ... my gripes w/ regional rail is 1) Hub and spoke so you basically have to go into then out of the city unless you are going somewhere on the line you are near 2) Crappy crappy hours 3) never, ever, onetime
funny story i was on KYW3 the night they changed it
cus i happened to be @Suburban station waiting (1 *%#$ hour) for my train .. hung over and sleep deprived ... asian reporter trisha tacanowa thought it would be good to interview me ... i thought it would be a nice time killer
ended up being put on air as the "man on the street" interview
@drachenstern wrong? Depends... If he was working at a lower-level, he could be guided in the direction of repz stos or the like, which effectively collapse the loop into a single instruction. At a higher-level, there could be a library routine that would do the same. Then again, he's only setting four values - there might not be any value in optimizing it...
I once walked down the street in Oakland, seriously lacking sleep, when I saw a nice teal 50's era truck. I thought, "Ooh, that must be fun to drive around..." Then quickly realized I was not playing GTFA.
@mootinator I figured as much, heh. Will getting someone new take some weight off of your shoulders, or are they trying to supplement you for no reason?
@Zypher I'm not in the habit of drinking alone, and I don't get out much around here because all of my friends who live close by are busy with school. I could drag myself up to Philly, but normally there's nothing concrete going on with people up there and I don't have the energy to drive up and find out there was no reason to, hahah.
damn it took me a whole half hour to show my coworker my new place and check for places the carpet cleaners didn't clean and give my computer time to reboot? Living this close to work is going to be nice for the first month ;)
Now to put that benefit to use by getting work done :p
Ah /. how I love thee...
> Does taking a fire-axe to the SAN count as "using a computer"?
